- Series 11 is actually really good. I have been rewatching the show recently and realising just how much fun I have watching this chill instalment of the show, and I wanted to share my opinions and reasoning behind why I think it is over-hated.

Honestly, it's just nice seeing someone talk about something they like that you don't usually see. To me, we need more of it. The internet is very much a hive mind right now. Once an opinion is established, so many just collectively agree without knowing why. The word "Objectively" is driving me insane too. Movies aren't part of nature. We made them up. There's no correct way to film something. Just a popular way. Even acting is jugded differently based off your own experiences/cultures.
100% agree. It’s the main reason I made the video really. The internet is exactly how you described right now and it really shouldn’t be. Not everyone is going to agree with what I have to say but I am sure some will.
you should title this video "why I liked season 11" not "why it's good" bc objectively it is really not good

There is, and I cannot stress this enough, no actual such thing as objective good or bad when it comes to art. We only think that, say, heavy handed writing is bad because we've been taught that way. In other cultures it can be seen as a good thing. Likewise plotholes are only a problem when you're not enjoying a movie, if you were liking the movie you would make up an excuse or ignore the plot hole, which indeed happens all the time with long running series like Star Trek, Star Wars and yes Doctor Who. If you notice plotholes you aren't finding a movie or book or show objectively bad, you are subjectively finding it bad and pointing at those things and going "wtf mate?" Bad dialogue? Even if 100% of the fans watching something didn't like the dialogue, then that would still be a subjective stance.
Stop taking satirical critique shows like Nostalgia Critic and cinema sins too seriously, especially when the latter is (subjectively) pretty f'n bad.

@@danielgertler5976 well said… As I always say… There are people who will look you dead in the eyes and tell you that Harry Potter isn’t a particularly well written book series… or the Shawshank redemption is an overrated film… Or that Ariana Grande has a terrible tone to her singing… And they’ll mean it… Everyone has different taste, and some people have bad taste objectively, lol (just kidding at the end there hahahaha.)
But it seems like OP here isn’t aware that the point of the UA-cam title is to write something provocative to get people to click on the video. Lol so I think we’re wasting our breath lol.
I feel like most video titles don’t ever state “in my opinion” in them, especially videos titled “why ‘x’ sucks”. So I think its alright

You’re totally entitled to your opinion, and I don’t want to seem dismissive or rude because there is definitely an unnecessary level of vitriol on this topic online. But the lack of “doctor speeches” is not what makes 13 not feel like the doctor (to me). Her complete lack of the moral framework underpinning the doctor and the self confidence associated with the quirkiness are what make her feel out of character
Thats completely fair, I just see many comments about that specifically in videos. I see those problems you are talking about within but I would say the inconsistencies are very minimal from what I perceived. I dont think I ever picked up on anything that felt out of character really other than the conspiracy comment and at the end of kerblam. They are tiny moments that, on the whole, do not bother me loads. I also think her character works with the doctor. The lack of self confidence works, it’s different and I personally like watching it. The doctor can be quirky too.
My biggest issue with Jodie's Era is that she never seemed to connect with her companions at all, and only Graham had a personality. I kinda wish it had been just the two of them.
Yea I felt that too. I guess she felt maybe more like a space tour guide at times but I still enjoyed them individually. I do 100% agree though.
I don’t think people always understand that enjoyment is subjective. I enjoyed series 11 as well but my enjoyment doesn’t automatically force others to like it
Exactly. I feel like people’s criticism’s of this series are valid, but I still really enjoyed this series.

I also just started re-watching the Whittaker era for the first time and I agree, its a lot better than I remember giving it credit for when I first watched it. Don't get me wrong, I would still rank it in 11th place out of the first 11 series, but I feel like I was overwhelmed by the things I didn't like and it caused me to miss the things I now like about it.
That makes perfect sense, I guess it doesnt help when its surronded by negativity all the time. Going in fresh after a while knowing how you feel can also allow you to appreciate other aspects as you know what u dont like already.
So I watch The Pirate Planet from Fourth Doctor era, and I'm like... why I feel like I seen this before... smaller in size density of multiple planets... then it hit me, it was freaking Ranskoor Av Kolos XD. So I had to watch some of the clips from that Series 11 finale, haha.
I can say this though... my favourite episode of Doctor Who, funnily enough, is still It Takes You Away :)

River's sonic or Laser screwdriver are my favorite's. I cant say I agree with you. Its a tossup between series 11 and 12 for my least favourite season, but can respect that its all subjective preference end of the day. My biggest issue was the lack of doctor/companion relationship which is the difference in 11/12 and series 7 which while being poor, still had 11 and Clara interacting and building their relationship.
That makes sense. This definitely isnt my favourite series of the show. I just feel like it is considered as unwatchable to loads of people which I just dont agree with as I enjoy it more than some of the other series.
You're the only person who's defended a chibnall era season of Dr who that I can't disagree with. PURE personal enjoyment is as valid an argument as any and props for being honest about it, not trying to justify your enjoyment by falsely defending or deflecting the problems with the season.

I can't say I agree, series 2 might be weak by RTD standards but some of its episodes like The Impossible Planet, The Satan Pit and Girl in the Fireplace are some of the all time greatest.
Series 11 has a few okay episodes, but none of them are truly great.
I get you. I do love those episodes but for me some of the series 2 episode’s are just not as fun/exciting. For some of them like New Earth, Tooth and Claw and Fear her, I do not look forward to having to rewatch them that much. I do however look forward to seeing each episode in series 11 which makes me enjoy it more.
The fam era of Doctor Who will always be its darkest timeline.

I don't really get the hate. Its not as strong as the moffat or RTD eras but then i've always thought the rtd era was over rated.
Anyways I think there's two types of media consumers, those who focus on what they didn't like in a piece or media and those who focus on what they liked. Its easier for the people who focus on what they liked to overlook some dumb things in a story and focus on they amazing things. Meanwhile the first group tend to see a moment of bad dialgoue or poor special effects and really focus in on that.
I never really thought about that but that is very true. I much prefer focusing on the positives myself 😂.

I enjoyed Jodie's era because it had daleks classic sontarans sea devils weeping angels the master oh classics doctor cameos ace Tegan it felt chinball understood what fans in some way
It definitely had some of the best uses of those characters in a long time too for me. Loved the sontaran design in flux and the dalek stories were really cool. Even the weeping angel episode was cool and felt different.

The Thumbnail saying Series 11 is better than Series 2 is just factual, Series 2 is a terrible series, probably my least favorite of any of the modern series. Series 11, if I had to rank it, is probably my 5th favorite series of the show and I consider it one of the best series of the modern show. It's THE most underrated series of the show, people absolutely despise the Chibnall era in general and think they are all the worst series of the show, but to me all of those series are significantly better than Series 2, 8, and 9, Series 11 especially. Visually, Series 11 is the best looking series of Doctor Who ever (I haven't watched the recent season so I don't know how that looks visually). I like the more episodic structure instead of having an overarching story with the series being more focused on the characters than any overarching mystery. I also like the lack of familiar monsters as seeing those time and time again can get very repetitive, especially when the stories featuring those monsters lose originality. I feel like people just wanted Series 11 to be like a Russell T Davies series or a Steven Moffat series and they didn't get that so they called it bad. I feel like the stuff that happens in Series 11 are just forgotten by everyone and I think people just assume that must mean it's bad and it doesn't help that the finale is such a let down which is a big problem because the finale is typically what your show will be most remembered for and that was not good, but at least the Ryan and Graham stuff was good. However, that is like the second worst episodes of the show and I feel like people are just forgetting the great episodes that came before.
The Woman Who Fell To Earth has a great storyline that's structured and paced very well, the dialogue is fun, Jodie looks great it Peter's clothes, The Stenza is a good villain, the tone is darker than I was expecting, I like the Doctor creating her own Sonic, Jodie's "I'm the Doctor" moment is great, the funeral scene is emotional, and the cliffhanger had me hooked into what was to come.
Rosa is one of my favorite episodes of the entire modern series and is one of the few historical episodes in the modern series which I always felt Doctor Who needed more of. Despite the topic being discussed in this episode, it still manages to be fun without downplaying what happened in history. It's also the best depiction of racism in New Who, racism is a common topic brought up but I don't think it's ever done better than in this episode. The villain is underdeveloped, sure, but it's not about him so who really cares, it's developed as much as it needs to be, but the focus is on Rosa and racism, which is what the focus should be on. Some have said this is unrealistic, it's really not, look up basically anything about the Civil Rights movement in America and look at how black people were treated in the 60s, hell even to this day black people are treated like this by certain people. I'm glad some of you still have some hope in humanity being nice to each other despite skin differences but that just isn't the case.
Demons in the Punjab everything about this episode is great. Visually it's great, the soundtrack is great, the aliens are great, the antagonist is great, the mystery is great, the ending is great, and I love the personal story.
It Takes You Away is structured very well, the mirror dimension is intriguing, the topic of grief spreads throughout the series but is especially great here, everyone is at their best acting wise here, the mystery is intriguing, Ryan calling Graham grandad is a great moment, the frog in the chair was the dumbest thing I've ever seen and I just can't help but love it.
And those are just episodes I think are the best of the series, that's not including other episodes I think are great or just solid. There's also just a lot of bad faith criticism of this series and the Chibnall era in general which I think has shaped a lot of people's perception of the series, even if they don't agree with the bad faith criticism.
Agreed i can rewatcg ANY series 11 episode yes most of 2 i sadly cannot reaatch most of hehe ... Just my angle of course but alas its true to me girl in fireplace anf satab pit two parter sre the only ones i genuinely liked wherwas all of series 11 bar thr finale maybe i at least like or love
Same with me really. I cant quite pinpoint exactly what it is but something about series 2 episode’s just dont excite me or draw me in as much as series 11.
@@TheLaneDW it's weird how the mind works isn't it like in my head I have nostalgia being 14 watching series 2 and getting caught up in the hype but objectively I love girl in the fireplace and Satan out two partner ...bits of the culyberman two partner and finale but overall the 10 Rose stuff weighs it down sadly just from a stance bit each episode of series 11 I feel is good stuff at least it's surreal how my mind works
i think series 12 was probably the weakest of the Whittaker stuff, but 13 really brought it home.
I really liked the structure of series 13, was very fresh.
I like Jodie as the doctor. I like Chris’ era. I like all doctor who. I don’t understand why people hate it SO much. Jodie is so good and there has all ways been amazing and bad episodes in doctor who.
Thats exactly how I feel like fear her and new earth are hard to watch for me and that never happens in this series.
Tennant Doctor only really gets good when Donna becomes his companion. The Rose romance angle was terrible when you remember he is supposed to be a wise intelligent time lord hundreds if not thousands of years old and Rose is fresh out of high school with no real world experience and not particularly bright. It made more sense for the Doc to look at her like a child, kind of a stand-in for his grand daughter. Plus she already had a boyfriend she was cheating on and you would think the Doctor would have moral boundaries with that sort of thing.
Post-Rose it got worse as the Doc became mopey and treated Martha terribly, leading her on then throwing Rose in her face.
Then Donna came along who made it clear there would be no romance, just a friendship, and we FINALLY got back the classic Doctor/companion friendships back.
Jodi Doctor did bring some of this companion romance nonsense back, but it was only thrown together right at the end of her run so at least we didn't have to sit through it for long.
Yea, I didnt understand the romance at the end of 13th’s Era really but it didnt ruin anything for me.

thats opinions, donnas arc for tennant was my "least" liked of them all ... i never found donna funny she is just nonstop annyoing to me. rose was just awesome. also when she bundled with the doctor she was cleary not with mickey anymore ... so when was it always cheating ??? your one of the people thinking when ur girl hang out with a guy she likes its "cheating "even if she does nothing ? ... cringe ...
I'm getting pretty fed up with all the Chibnall-bashing but I do have to say that I liked season 12 far better than season 11. Season 12 had far more in-depth stories (although one of them is hated by most conservative DW-fans and actually loved by me). Both season 11 and 12 felt like a complete reshape of DW and I feel it worked better in S12 than in S11.
I feel like I agree. I am yet to rewatch series 12 but from memory I thought it just took what series 11 did well and improve it more. I really liked the timeless child stuff too. Its not explained super well or expanded on in series 13 but it brought a lot of excitement to the show for me in series 12.

regardless of how much you enjoy it, it is indisputably one of the worst series. It's full of writing issues. Enjoyment is subjective, but it's a fact that less people will enjoy something if it's poorly made. The title of the video is, effectively, a lie. Not that you are lying, you're not. In fact, I reckon you chose that title because it's more likely to bring in views and a statement like that sounds better than "I think X is good!", that's just how being a UA-camr works. However, it is still a false statement, because Series 11 isn't good, especially not compared to the other series. I will admit there is a certain level of where your bad threshold lies, but with the amount of issues in it it's hard to claim it as good. That said, there are aspects about it that are alright. I still think it's the best out of all the Chibnall era (mainly for not being weighed down by the Timeless Child). Whether the writing issues effect you is something only you can control and it's completely okay to like them. But there are issues with it that make it significantly worse, when looking objectively, than most other series.
I mean it can be the worst series to you because the bad elements in this inhibit your viewing experience more. The issues within this series do not affect my enjoyment and therefore I prefer it to other series. Series 2, for me, is less enjoyable overall. I feel like that series overall is hit or miss. It has episodes I am not super excited to get into watching whereas I do not have that with this one.
it was so bad it made me stop watching doctor who until this years special ... so no it wasnt actually good xD i wathced every episode of season 1-10 over 10 times and i never even finished 11 not watched the others with the showrunner ...
I mean I understand. I know people hate it that much but I really enjoy it. Just a really chill, laid-back series.
