The EPA did this same bullying thing in the mid nineties with the phasing out of R12 Freon . Enacted a bunch of new rules that changed depending on who you spoke to in the government, gave a period of time for the shops to buy thousands of dollars of equipment to meet there rules, had all the employees trained for the new regulation and then started fining shops who did not meet there requirments. My shop spent fourty thousand dollars to comply with the rules and at that time that was a lot of money to pull out of no where. And yes it was all about money then, I believe it was Dupont that was losing the patent on R12 and they needed to force the use of R12 rather than some of the many alternative replacements that were coming on the market until there patent for R134 cleared. Being a lobbyist pays well I am told.

I just started racing about 4 yrs ago. I have been a diesel performance enthusiast for the last 17 yrs, ever since I drove my bother-in-laws 01 tuned Duramax. Even when I drove gassers, I have always enjoyed doing upgrades to my truck to make it run better, last longer, and are generally healthier for my truck's life. I am absolutely infuriated over the EPA's attack on shops and the consumer for altering any aspect of a production vehicle. OK, I can understand altering emissions, but if emissions remain intact and tuning helps increase horsepower while decreasing regens (saves fuel/money) should not even be an issue. I am the 2017 NHRDA World Finals Sportsman winner, 2018 NHRDA Diesel on the Mountain Sportsman winner, 2nd in points in the 2018 NHRDA Sportsman National Championship, and 4-time Big Country Raceway street class champion. I enjoy racing my daily driver. I keep my power level at a point that allows me to race but also have a reliable vehicle (higher the power, the more likely something will break). I am not into having a separate tow vehicle and trailer. I enjoy driving my hot-rod, there should not anything wrong with that at all. As a previous podcast stated, where does the EPA stop and allows us to make upgrades to our vehicle that improves performance, improve the health of our own vehicle, and protects the environment. Where does it stop, is a shop or a end consumer going to get in trouble with the government because they did not put an OE oil filter or air filter back on a vehicle? Don't respond, is a rhetorical question. Even a political spin can be put on this issue, but I'm not going there. As mentioned before, I am absolutely infuriated re: how far the EPA is going, which is absolutely absurd. I urge everyone, even the gas enthusiast, to contact your local, state, and federal official re: this issue that has gone to far and has to stop!!! If you want, you can go to my facebook page and click on the link for "SEMA" and send a pre-printed statement to your state and federal official. If you are a enthusiast as I am, please get involved.

When a government fears its people you have freedom and liberty. When the people fear their government you have tyranny. We the people need to restore the balance. The EPA are employees of the taxpayers. Everyone that loves to tinker and enjoys the aftermarket options for making horsepower should be contacting their elected representatives voicing their concerns on the EPA.

One thing they did not touch base on in this podcast was the "end user" issues also. They talk about the shops issues installing these "illegal" products. In PA, if you are caught driving an altered vehicle, it's mandatory $20,000 fine, your truck is impounded, sent back to the dealership to get set back to factory parts and tuning (which you pay for).

I had a very reputable tuner (which i won't name even though they have already been shutdown from tuning about a year ago by the epa) write me 5 tunes for my lly a little over 6 years ago which is still running very strong thanks to deletes and tuning. Well this guy made one of those tunes a very powerful yet super clean street tune that shifts oh so butter smooth. I'm talking practically 0 soot coming out the exhaust when I'm on the pedal while driving pretty aggressively. I guess where im going with this is they should have a voluntary non-mandated test that if you want to run your deleted truck legally that as long as you can make a run that can pass a low particulate matter test close to the same visual output of a new fully emissions in tact truck those who qualify can be issued a permit to run that tune on the street legally. This would allow us to have legally qualified deleted trucks giving us the same reliability and fuel economy diesel enthusiasts have grown to luv. Then tuners could strive to hit this goal on the deletes. This way you don't put theses great guys, shops and aftermarket manufacturers out of business and as a nation we can burn less fuel in the process which will help the environment stay clean. Everyone with a delete will also have a chance to become compliant again in doing so because let's just be honest; the alternative is telling people its illegal and they better get their act together and get compliant and lets be honest... if you already have a delete there is no way you are going to put an egr and dpf back on your truck. 👍

If the EPA was smart, being that this is a money grab gimmic, they would just get an emissions tax approved on all sales of aftermarket performance diesel parts instead of trying to extend the long arm of these ridiculous laws. Its a win win because they would make way more money that way and still be able to show that they "care" about the environment, and we as consumers could legally have these performance parts on our trucks (at a slightly higher cost). Im not in favor of paying more money for parts but if that constitutes being able to legally modify my truck i would be ecstatic to pay the phony piper.

I am very interested in all this recent info. about diesel emission enforcement. Not because I am a diesel truck owner but because I am on my third diesel passenger car. After the VW dieselgate BS, it appears to be a "Trickle-down" into or rather up-to the truck market. Ironically the EPA did not 'discover' that VW was 'cheating.' A university professor and his students via a relatively small grant discovered it. From the first test drive of a Jetta TDI pre-fix, I was hooked! I thought "How in the world are more people not buying these?" Who doesn't want 40mpg average in-town and 50, sometimes nearly 60 on road trip? Now, post fix only 35 to 40mpg average and the DSG transmission is a dog! My only experience with trucks is via work. In stock form an F350 6.0 is amazing but I would not want to own and maintain that particular truck without aftermarket upgrades. This scenario regarding any diesel vehicle is nothing more than a scam, money grab and government overreach. Simply tyrannical!

    • @castirondude

Back in college I had a 1984 Nissan sedan with a 1.7 diesel and it got, like you said, over 50 mpg highway. Now 35 years later , it's probably HARDER to find a car >50 mpg than it was back then. But the EPA doesn't care.

  • @Ol2Stroker

If we don't come together as an entire industry and end this overreach we're all fucked. These are our vehicles we pay insane prices for, and insane taxes on. We will not be told what we can and cannot do with them. They may have control over them when they are built but after they are sold they are our personal property and the government has zero business in them.

How about this one? You buy a new vehicle/truck, it's paid for and you have your name on the title. The Government says you can't do this or that to the vehicle. It must pass random inspections. Then, if they can get their way, insurance companies want to track your trips and mileage to determine your insurance rates. At what point do you really own your property? Maybe vehicle owners should simply tell those who want to monitor their vehicle, "I charge a fee for that access and data".

However, you can drive as fast as you want on the open parts of the AutoBahn. There is good and bad. That is correct, it is your responsibility to keep up up to par in order to pass emissions. I worked at an emissions test shop for a very brief period of time. Your truck would have failed emissions in that state and you would not be allowed to renew your tags without having the pump either rebuilt and injectors replaced, or whatever else was worn out. They are that strict about it, in some states.

Not only as a diesel owner and enthusiast, I also manage a fleet of around 300 school buses. I can tell everyone first hand how much the emissions equipment has hurt more than just the performance industries. The reliability even in stock form sucks to say the least. The mini bus side of my fleet is slowly being phased from diesel to gas vehicles stricktly due to downtime and maintenance costs. Our fuel costs have spiked due to the loss of efficiency going back to gasoline vehicles, and the longevity of the vehicles has degraded leading to more frequent vehicle purchases. That cost then gets turned to the tax payers, and we wonder why our school taxes keep increasing. Our old fleet of 7.3 and 6.5 vans and dt466 and 444 buses cost relatively little to run and lasted forever. Enter the 6.0, 6.6 and maxxforce era (error) where reliability went out the window... a vehicle that’s in the shop for thousands of dollars in emissions systems repairs is not only costing money, but losing money in down time...

@@vinnyhimes1190 Correction, it is our NATURAL RIGHT, protected by the 2nd Amendment from goverment infringement to keep and bear arms. We don't have Constitutional Rights, we have Natural Rights protected by the Constitution from government intrusion. The 2nd Amendment limits them, not us. They do not get to decide the extent of those limits and therefore don't get to decide what weapons(military or otherwise) or what Americans(felons or otherwise) are permitted to own said arms.
And before making the argument that the majority decided we don't need certain weapons or certain people shouldn't have them, we are not a democracy. Our forefathers despised a democracy for good cause and likened it to mob rule. We are a Constitutional Republic. Artical IV; Section 4: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government..."
Article I; Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution defines the federal government's delegated authorities. None of which give them the authority to make a law against modifying anything or prohibititing anything(including Cannabis or ANY other drug/substance). Are we FREE or slaves?
Article I; Section 1 clearly states that "ALL legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States." Whereas, the EPA has NO authority to make ANY laws telling any American what they can and cannot do to any of their own property or themselves so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. That power is clearly left to Congress under certain criteria outlined for them in the Constitution. Every "law" the EPA inacts is unconstitutional and therefore void as if it never existed per Article VI; Section 2 which states: "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof...shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."
It is beyond past time that our government "officials" begin honoring their oath of office and quit violating the Constitution, the Supreme Law, by making new unconstituional law(s) in order to extort money from their employers, WE THE PEOPLE!! WE THE PEOPLE NEED to hold them accountable to their oathes and as such they MUST suffer the penalties for said crimes as outlined in 18 U.S.C. 1918 which states "individual may not accept or hold a position in the Government of the United States" and "shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year and a day, or both."

The Government is on the road to making Diesels so expensive to operate and maintain that any person who buys one will quickly get rid of it and never buy another..! They are forcing all diesel out of existence and it's really messed up. At present time there isn't anything that can haul the tonnage a diesel application can for a reasonable expense. My company is buying brand new buses and they make it to my shop with MIL and CEL lights on the dash! We had a 2017 with 120k miles that was sent to cummins and they had to rebuild the engine due to DPF pressure codes that kept returning even though all cummins trouble shooting steps were followed and the appropriate parts replaced.

They call it a "testing fee" you can pay that fee and have your illegal product tested. If CARB decides the product being tested doesn't increase NOX emissions, then you get a CARB/EO certification number and your illegal product that clearly alters the way the vehicle ran from the factory, is now legal! Can you make a podcast just breaking down specifically what the EPA said and then after they’re done with shops what the consumers should do and watch for. Also this is in the US only what about Canada could PPEI for example move to Canada and do the same thing up there? Just a thought

Honestly how complex is a set of block off plates should be something that any machine/fabricating shop could make easy. Then the dpf delete pipe is literally just exhaust pipe. Not sure about getting tunes, or suspicious trucks being pulled over and checked

So anyone willing to move to Mexico and open up shop?

Good luck with that. You open shop and the cartel bust the door down making you pay them for simply doing business in "their" area.

The overreach has been out of hand for decades! The majority of Americans have been ok ignoring the wonderful big bosses unconstitutionally stepping into and interfering in multiple areas of American life for far too long! Now the proverbial "when they're at your front door" has become a reality for the diesel community! Nothing will change until like minded Americans stand together just like the founding fathers of this country.

What Vince said about all EPA wants is money that is straight black and white, instead taking away diesel tuning away and tuning parts because somebody who doesn’t even drive diesel saids so . For example I’m a diesel mechanic student at Forsyth tech community college in North Carolina, from my experience on oem equipment 9 times out 10 the trucks that we learn on are trucks that have been broke down because of oem parts failing that be said instead of learning about OEM parts that fail why don’t we find solutions. Instead of taking jobs, careers away from people.

I love the super duty Ford trucks but when you Delete the Emissions is a no no . Factory can not build these trucks with out the emissions control. This is not a new law now EPA are clamping down on these deleted trucks an shops . Check out Bullet.com . Cars power by gasoline started in the early 70s and more on to trucks later. There used to be road side checks to make sure we are not choking on what's coming out of your tail pipes. This has nothing to do with the truck factory.

How bout we get every epa representative to show receipts and submit to a vehicle inspection? I guarantee every single vehicle has been tampered with. How often are they getting their septic system inspected? Laws for that too buddy. Its all a money and power thing. Everyone who has had a modern vehicle has been exposed to this crapt. Soend 70-90k on a new truck and make it last 100k miles without tampering with it. Aint happening. Screw those power hungry fellas.

doesn't any law have to be subject to Presidential veto power to be constitutional? EPA can't just write laws, legally. Hopefully this will get challenged at the Supreme Court.
