36” x 96” Trestle Table
I’ve been thinking about this project for a long time so it was really nice to see it come together. The table is made with a combination of quarter sawn and rift sawn White Oak. The Legs are attached to the feet of the table with a through mortise and tenon joinery and pegged with half inch oak dowels. The trestle is attached to the legs with a massive lap joint and reinforced with a 5 inch lag bolt.
The braces that support the tabletop are attached to the trestle with lap joints and reinforced with 4 inch lag bolts.
The combination of joinery and solid 8/4 white oak make the base of this table incredibly strong.
The tabletop is attached to the base with handmade wooden buttons that will allow the top to expand and contract with the seasons.
I hope you enjoy this project video and if you do build the table please share it on your social media and tag me. I'd love to see what you made.
Be good, Jon

When I grow up, I want to be like Jon.
Me too!
This is awesome
Me too
It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.
Amazing project. I learned a lot. It is good to see someone to try to teach instead of just selling tools as a lot of the UA-camrs do under the cover of teaching. Thank you for sharing. Like your channel.
You ought to be very pleased with yourself. The content and narrative you provide IS the best woodworking videos I've watched on UA-cam. Period. It's always a pleasure to see your designs and watch as you meticulously build and create them. Your talent and professionalism is top shelf every time and I look forward to viewing each of your videos, from the small to the large. Thanks for sharing the things you do.
That’s really nice to hear, thank you!
Just beautiful !!! great job
I LOVE this table, Jon!
Beautiful work
Simple yet so beautiful. Great video
Absolutely beautiful ❤
Terrific Trestle!!!
A huge thumbs up, Jon. That’s a beautiful table!
Gorgeous table. This man definitely put in his 10,000 hours.
Adding a chamfer to a tenon burried in a spot that only people who watch this video will ever know about, is a good way to attract new viewership. Very clever, Jon
Thanks, I think it’s just one of those things that every woodworker can’t help themselves from doing a little extra work… you never know who will appreciate it a hundred years from now. ;)👍
@@JonPetersArtHome I'm sure the joint will hold up much longer than 100 years. 🫡
Work of Art
I love the design, great table, great project.
Nice work, Jon.
Beautiful table, excellent video.
Love the belt and suspenders approach. Modern day furniture undergoes a lot of stress and abuse, but this beautifully designed piece will definitely be a family heirloom for generations to come. Wonderful piece, Jon!

This was awesome to watch. Thank you for filming this. The details always blow me away. Incredible work.
Amazing work, thank you for sharing.
Okay, All the accolades aside, and this project deserves every one of the positive comments. Inquiring minds want to know. Did your brother pay you? How much. The oak alone had to be at least $1500.
There is a lot of thought, and detail that went into that table. Mainly in the trestle, and supports underneath. Very nice.
Thanks for sharing this Mr. Jon
That's a beautiful table - something about white oak!!

Hey, this is a great video! so underrated, I like how this was made very solid and sturdy, using no fancy tools, heck I could make a bad replica of this, great work and thank you!
Thank you! That’s really nice to hear very much appreciate
A beautiful project. Great combination of design and craftsmanship. Behold a table that’s going to outlast all of us
Thanks Taylor
When I saw this video drop, I’ve been patiently waiting all week for Saturday morning to watch it with my cup of coffee. It did not disappoint. Great video
That’s so nice to hear! Thank you!
Nicely done Jon. In 1960 my father had a trestle table custom built for the family dining room. It is in my dining room today and is one of my prized possessions. I have been planning to duplicate it in the near future for my daughter’s family. So, thanks for your very helpful presentation.
You’re welcome Mark, great to hear that the video was helpful. When you finish the table posted on Instagram and tag me I’d love to see it.
Good stuff
Thanks Rick
Cool. I have my table top already finished. I need feet for it. I like this.
Cool! Thanks Tim
i'm 30 minutes into this video-And i haven't been watching for a while. But you have improved your videos and presentation and most of all your workmanship. And the content. CONGRATULATIONS on all your work.
Thanks!
Jon, I always learn something useful from your videos. This one is no exception. I would never have thought of ripping the beam and then glueing it back together to solve the problem. I would like plans to build a much smaller kitchen table. Say, 30" x 58", less beefy, maybe mostly 1" stock.
Thanks Jim
Beautiful table Jon. I'm in the middle of a version of one of your book case builds right now. Maybe one day I might try this table.
Nice! Thanks
Spectacular Job Jon!!! BTW.....Your shop is really looking great! The lighting alone adds so much focus to your video!! DD
Thanks Dennis, the American Green Lights really made a big difference
Yooooo Jon!!! over 30 mins. heck Yeah MoFo!! 21 mins. in & I paused 3 times already. I make sure I watch videos all the way through. You guys put a lot into making content so RESPECT would be to watch it all!! Looking real cool already Bud. Be back when I've completed video. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Thanks Mike!
you are like the new Norm!
Ha! Thanks Scott!
Outstanding work, Jon! Your videos are great!
Thanks John
Doesn't look pale at all!
Great looking table, Jon~!! For the tabletop, did you to & fro at all between dominos or biscuits, or were joints with floating tenons the clear choice on this project? Understanding that there are multiple ways to go about it, I'm interested in your decision/thought process. Thanks much~!
cool
Think I'm going to make this in walnut
Nice! That’s going to look great… send me a picture when you finish or post it… I’d love to see it.
When clamping the tabletop, did you apply any vertical pressure to prevent it from bowing up due to the clamping force? Or do the dominos prevent bowing?
I looks great! Thanks for the video.
How do you like the halcyon finish compared to something like general finishes high performance (water based poly)?
Thanks Don , I like it a lot very rugged and easy to apply
Such a beautiful piece. Excuse me if this is a silly question. Still building my joinery knowledge. I’ve heard that large tenons, like the ones you have on these legs, can have large amounts of movement. Is this true? Is the QS oak a way to prevent such movement because it is more a more stable material?
Love the table! I also love the belt and buckle, any chance you would tell me where you bought it, or did you make it?
Thanks! Sure thing it’s From Mountain Khakis
That is a good looking piece of furniture. How heavy is it?
Thanks Tony, about 200 pounds
I’m looking to get a bench top planer for my very small garage workshop. Narrowed my choices to the DeWalt DW735X and the Oliver you have. Any thoughts on the Oliver planer?
It works great… very little snipe and nice finish
G'day mate, I noticed when laid the table top onto the bar clamps you didn't protect the boards with tape - is it a furphy that the glue and aluminium will stain the wood?
I’m not sure if the aluminum will stain the wood… it didn’t in this project. I do know that steel will.
Was the table small enough that you didn’t need a lower cross support? At what table length does this become a must?
Did you need to glue the trestle to the legs. Wouldn't the lag screws be sufficient? Without the glue, the table could be disassembled if needed. Thoughts?
Maybe not, and I thought about that but decided that I wanted the extra strength of the glue.
This is rick again.... around 35 min in to the video thought the brake might go off. Just wondering how close u have to be . Very nice looking table
Thanks Rick, as long as you don’t touch it
