As bleak as the future can look for culture like this, in theory we're going to automate everything and there won't be any normal jobs. My hope is if that happens we could switch to a solid universal basic income structure and then encourage people to spend more time on arts and hobbies. Economics are a complicated nightmare so I'm not sure how it would work but I'd love to see a culture that encourages doing stuff like this. Right now many are turned off just because they know it isn't a safe job and a degree or their parents wouldn't want them to try anything artistic. Takes a lot of practice to learn niche skills like this and many people don't think to because they need to get a steady 9-5

Once all of this has been compiled, how much should he charge by the hour considering everything listed here above? Thy artisan themselves have added up those costs to determine that they have supplied the equivalent of 10 years salary to bring their crafts to you, my guess is that they have already figured out that they are worth far more than whatever pittance you'd offer them and would likely tell you to "go ahead and buy whatever you can at Walmart. I'll sell my crafts to people who, not only can afford to purchase their item, but can understand the value of what I create _for_ them and how much I went through to bring it _to_ them.
