This model has long been a favourite of mine, because it is first with footboards, first with foot clutch and it is the newest year that could register for Britains famous "Pioneer Run" for vintage bikes so I could hurtle down the route! Ah, can only dream!
After all these years... With the only difference being intensity of the sound... That engine noise could've came from a road king, dyna, sportster you name it., Timeless
Wow, that's all the motor are so old. I really like this kind of motor. Thank you for uploading this video to the world. You can watch this video after the next generation. Really you are a wonderful person. Thank you again.
I have seen a 1918 model in real life at a museum. Almost the same motorcycle ! American motorcycle where 20 year forward in tech compared to the european !
@@jamppa4693 no not at all. 90 degree v twin sound different the Harley. @@brucewayne-ej3cx If you want a state-of-the-art motorcycle, there are hundreds to choose from. They are faster, more efficient, better designed, more reliable and probably less expensive than a Harley. The only problem is, they aren't Harleys. That's important to some people. No need to hate.
Is it just one gear? I've built a similar bike - but it only has the one gear... goes up to about 15 -20 mph. Very cool looking - but fragile. Just fun to ride around the neighborhood from time to time.

VVT? Hmm, don't know if you're fully aware of what that means. Harley-Davidson announced they are developing a new V-twin engine with VVT in 2020, a bit over ONE HUNDRED years after they built the one in this video. I believe they filed a patent for the design. More than likely, what you meant to say was ignition timing. Variable ignition timing is necessary for the optimal performance of any piston engine and isn't anything special. Look up VVT on WIkipedia because the history of it is really interesting. Much more interesting that an old bicycle with a lawnmower engine fastened to it.
What model number was this motorcycle? I am going through some old family photos and found an undated picture of one of the in-laws riding what looks like this exact bike. Based on the fact that the headlight is not blurry, I suddenly think he didn't have the motor on when they snapped the picture. : ) Such a good looking bike!
For 1914 it would be a 10F, 1915 would be 11F and then from 1916 they had the year prefix - ie; 16F. If you want to date that family photo bear in mind this tank shape (flat hard edge panels, sloping towards riders privates) appeared in 1912 until 1915, in 16 it is tastefully contoured and blended. Only the 14 twin had this two speed rear hub (it was also on a single and a three wheel van like model) look for the dinky shifter on top of tank, in 15 they had three speed gearbox with tank side shifter. Check if it is chain or belt drive (belt has huge pulley mounted in the rear spokes) and whether electric lights or gas lights - gas you will see heat vents on headlamp and maybe the gas cannister which looks a bit like a retro fire extinguisher. The electric headlamp looks a bit like a WW1 Brit or US helmet. Go to a knowledgeable website (mine is HD Riders Club GB site..) with these notes and someone should be able to answer you. Good luck.
First gear.was taller than a Vincent Black Shadow! I cringed when he revved that thing up, but maybe it was already warmed up? I don't even let my twincam go beyond a fast idle when cold.

Damn! That 1914 model is a beast compared to the 1911. So much power!
It looks like the motorized bicycle i built in my garage
Motorized bicycle = Motor[ized bi]cycle = Motorcycle. Brilliant!
You mean, your motorized bicycle you built in your garage looks like this 1914 Harley Davidson motorcycle lol
To be fair, Harley really did make their earlier bikes in their garage out of bicycles
Myhand Hurts yeah it’s pretty similar
it technically is

I do love it. Hope I'm running that well when I'm that age.
I bought my Harley at SM H-D; great store and terrific staff and their mini-motorcycle museum is a wonderful attraction!

That's cause they've kept the design flaws since day 1. An engine doesnt need to vibrate till it falls apart.

I was like "this looks like my local Harley dealer" and then he says Santa Maria hahaha that's crazy!
I like the aerodynamic design of the handlebars they had back then.
this company was ahead of its time for sure
That's damn cool. Harley's had that same sound all the way back in 1914!? Was this there first v-twin?
Yes. And it made a whopping 7 horsepower.

1914 Harley starts right up no problem. After all, since 1914, 98% of all Harleys are still on the road.
The other 2% made it back.
How much can an historic machine like that be worth ? Beautiful for sure.

I heard about a kid who rode a similar bike in the cannonball.I wanted to see how he stopped the bike.
He never did. It's still running laps around the nation to this day.
Wonder what it felt like to ride by someone riding their horse on this.
But does it leak oil?
My word, that machine is it...
My grandfather would have had one of those!

Does it have gears ?
no gears. one speed
Yes. Two gears. One in the front. One in the back. Single speed.
2 speed
