There were several JKA hombus over the years. For a while, both JKA groups had a hombu in Ebisu, then the Asai group moved to their new hombu in Takanawa (a couple of kilometres away), and eventually the Nakahara group moved their dojo to Itabashi. The various offshoots of the Asai group of course made their own hombus; Richard Amos moved to New York and founded something I believe he calls "World Traditional Karate Organization". But the difference is all political. They all continue Shotokan.

This is the Asai group and it was shot just after the Nakahara group moved 200 yrds away. Until then both groups were in the same dojo, training side by side.

Sensei, is this the video that was ripped off ? I can understand how you wanted to keep it private, however as a non japanese studying karate this is inspiring for us to watch someone accomplishing his dream 'to the limits'. Thanks for sharing.

I can see Yahara sensie and Kagawa sensie in this video. Is this the Asai faction? I am asking because I was expecting to see Tanaka or the other older JKA instructors also.

This was the JKA honbu that Nakayama sensei founded in the early 70's and was abandoned eventually in spring 1994

The JKA split in 1990 into two factions: Asai sensei's side and the so-called Nakahara side. Nakahara was the president of the JKA and not a karate practitioner, Asai had been dismissed from the JKA for internal reasons but he had many supporters so there were two JKAs operating legally until the end of 1999. Then Asai dropped the court case and formed a group called the JKS, and the JKA continued under the presidency of Nakahara.

"Was a real-life karate kid...". Ugh! The media could be so cringey.

Enoida was such a legend. My partner studied shotokan for 18 years. Only thing for a master is why does he blink when punching? Something he needs to work on I think. Hope he has learnt this over the years as I know this is an old video.

Also, the dojo is a bit different from the one that I saw in the other video's which was also referred as "honbu". Sorry for the questions, just want to learn some JKA history. Specially those that happened during the "not so good" years of JKA.

Because it is mine it doesn't necessarily mean I have to post it on youtube. The reason it was not posted on here in the first place is because it is private. Try to understand that.

What do you mean by the "Asai group"? Could you clarify this?

I watched some clips in his channels and has not so incredible technique. In that time when he was young the difference was that he is big and big means long legs; possible more power; longer reach. With that and good elongation you can win whatever points Kumite. If he was shorter...
