I saw Annie Lennox perform this song in the Tampa Theater a historic landmark built in the 1920's. It's an ornately decorated movie theater that seats just 1252 people, so just imagine how personal and intimate this concert was being ninth row center stage. Annie was getting ready to go on tour and was perfecting her act (no need to). Her singing was sublime! It was by far the best concert I have ever been too. She spoke to the audience, and was so personable, so real. With her it's 'what you see is what you get', she was absolutely amazing!

One of the best voices to emerge from the 80s. This song and performance are new to me - thank you Fil! My favorite Annie Lennox song was "There Must Be An Angel Playing With My Heart" - what vocals on that one! Also loved the profound and liberating duet she did with Aretha Franklin - "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves." Annie was called Androgynous during the 80s but I always thought she was very feminine. Thanks again, Fil.

Three years after your comment, but yes, what Fil says about not being able to learn how to sing like this is SO true, sadly-in a way. I love to sing and I have a good voice. I’ve performed live, was the lead in a rock musical that was well received years ago, but the character in her voice is something that I *ache* to have been born with. No exaggeration. The yearning is not unlike having feelings for someone you’ll never, *ever* have a chance of even meeting in a lifetime. Performing and having an audience enjoy you is wonderful, it can bring a sort of high. But to have Annie’s God-given voice come through her must be incredible. And how her voice has been “aging” , what a treasure that has no bottom to it.

Notice how all the reviews of classic pop or rock etc needs to look back at least 20-60 years ago. As an old dude from the 60s - 70s in my prime and a music lover, I am so saddened that the Music Industry and today's culture has murdered great music. I try to like today's popular music, I really do but the majority is just crap. Sorry if that offends, today's music is crap, I'm sure there's talent but the system and culture is the crap.

This is in response to fellow listener Jay Edward's criticism of the direction of the channel. I can somewhat understand Jay's disappointment in the change of focus for the channel as i too began listening because of all of the analysis being given to guitar players. As a guitarist i was initially attracted to the channel because of the in depth technique discussion. However i suppose there are only so many times you can analyze Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn and other guitar gods without the channel becoming stale and redundant. By opening up the channel to a wide range of artists Fil has not only expanded his audience he has also broadened all of our musical horizons. Fortunately for me i have been a fan of or have at least appreciated nearly every artist featured. Some more hard rock or metal would be appreciated though ha ha! The bottom line is that listeners and fans of this channel are all very lucky to have discovered it. Fil is unquestionably the most talented music analysis host on UA-cam.

My respect for Lennox stepping down to raise her kids increases into the stratosphere. Annie does have it all. I need to go back and reacquaint myself with her recent music. One of the iconic women of my lifetime - such a unique artist, and like Cher, a rare contralto in an industry full of female sopranos. She's had so many valleys and mountains in her own life too; it makes her so real and present. Not really relatable as such, she's too unusual, but she connects emotionally. This song has been so much on my mind lately. It's the soundtrack for those times when you have so much hidden emotion, and feel isolated by it, but Annie always tries to connect with those difficult and unreachable places within us. Part of why I always connected to her voice/songs is that I believe she's felt every thing she's emoting & saying. If it's something you've been through or felt, you recognize it & it resonates.

Would so love for you to analyze the guitar skills of Earl Klugh. He is so under appreciated. Annie Lennox is so pure she brings tears to your eyes!

Thanks for honouring the women of rock and Annie is one of top ones. I was shocked when I first saw the clip for Love is a Stranger - Annie was unusual and alluring all at once.

"Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics?-- I think that's the name of the song that I remember her singing from way back. I love that one. I like her clear voice. It carries well and has a beautiful tone.

You're a gentle soul with great depth of musicality and an impressively broad knowledge base. Best regards from Melbourne, Australia. 🌺💖😎

I’m not always interested at first at Fil’s choice of songs to review, but he is so good, so perceptive and so enthusiastic that I’m won over every time. The expression on his face shows that he’s really into it. I love Annie Lennox so it was a nonissue on this song.

Lots of people do this on UA-cam and do it well, but Fil is the best in my opinion. Maybe an obscure choice of Duncan Browne would be cool. I saw today that Browne had a wonderful Old Grey Whistle Test from 1973 and Fil’s analysis would be of great interest. Duncan Browne looks like he could have been Fil’s uncle too.
