  • Homemade BBQ Grill. The DIY "Steel Barrel" mini Charcoal Grill. Easy DIY. Full instructions. no special tools required. i only used tin snips/pliers and a drill. made with 3 (and a half) old food cans and dirt/gravel. super efficient grill. can cook for 1.5 to 2 hours using only 4 to 8 (large) charcoal briquets. some specifics: i used a large steel "coffee can" for the main body of the stove, a 46oz. vegetable juice can for the chimney (stack), a tomato paste can for the air feed tube and a 29-30 oz. steel 'fruit can' (cut in half) for the riser.. *cheapest place to (buy) the needed cans is at walmart. tips: i cut the "inner can" lower than the outer can to increase the area of the cooking surface. *it helps spread the heat. 2.) if you have a larger grill grate , buy a second "large can" and place it next to the grill. then just lay the grill grate across both cans. *or make two grills!. 3.) A round "stove ring" can be used if you want to cook with (cast iron) pots and pans. if you like the vid. please rate, subscribe and share. update: see this grill with a heavy chain handle i added - here's the link • Update Vid: How to mak...

    I've had mine 4yrs now still going strong I use it on the beach ALL the time....sometimes I use wood chips or pellets or twigs.

      What's so cool is that when using it at the beach in use it in the sand so it don't burn anything underneath or leave rings.when I'm done I just walk it down to the shore and soak it in the ocean water to cool off and then its cool enough to put in the car trunk till next time. In still using this thing as a matter of fact I just took it to Fogarty Creek State Park Oregon this Saturday and Sunday. People from out of state/tourist ALWAYS compliment me and say how AWESOME it is.

    To save the unburned charcoal for next time, cover the top with something (such as a paving stone, another can, a large tile, etc) and block the air intake tube with something else. Fire'll go right out and you don't waste unused fuel. Because I mostly cook for myself, I can get a whole summer out of one bag of charcoal like this. Next time, just add a few new briquets to top up the old stuff, and fire away.

    I'll use the leftover can tops for reinforcement in the bottom of the vent can so the bottom doesn't get burnt-out , and a shop-vac for cleaning out the ash.Great Video, thanks for giving me a new project this weekend, I might build a couple for some homeless people camping in some near by woods !

      A shop vac cost money a spoon is WAY cheaper and easier to scoop out.

    Most of the houses here in the Philippines has a DIY grill like that. Because Filipinos love to save gas and electricity. Good job & awesome project, Sir! *highfive

    Feed some saw dust to the main tube hole and light it from underneath for great great smokey flavour...and for cooking too.

    Good tip use clay instead of rocks so it will harden up and not fall out like rocks would in transport

    Wouldn't a charcoal chimney starter work as well? I know this about DIY, etc, I bought a CCS after building my rocket stove, i can use wood, charcoal, and I think with some modification also use with an alcohol stove. - Great Video as we've come to expect. Thanks

    Great build simple and appears efficient. Couldn't you just remove the riser for it to work as a rocket stove too? Just curious

    • @julioleon559
      @julioleon559 3 роки тому

      Yes without the riser it becomes a rocket stove just make sure to face the intake can in the direction of the wind to get the best flame out of it.i load it up with sticks found along the beach or even used dry moss from the trees.

    Let me tell you, my friend, it's simply perfect. I will make mine, and thanks a lot. IN ORDER TO PAY YOU BACK FOR YOUR IDEA, let me advise you about the ashes: THEY ARE THE BEST NATURAL TEETH BLEACHERS TO WHITE THEM, together with the ordinary tooth paste, and they will not harm you in any way. So don't get rid or throw them away, just keep them. Regards, from Panama.

    • @arifpatel99
      @arifpatel99 7 років тому

      Ricardo Osorio M. Mister you may be referring to ash from burning pure natural untreated wood. He's using briquettes - there's a lot of chemical residue in that ash (and certainly not safe for internal consumption).

    its getting more and more difficult to find metal coffee and paint cans but things like catsup and veggies still come in number 5 cans

    • @desertsun02
      @desertsun02  8 років тому +3

      hi there. for anyone looking for that largest can (also called a "number 10 " can) - try walmart. i've seen white hominy, bush's baked beans, fruit cocktail, and coffee all being sold there in that size can. (the white hominy is the cheapest - only costing $2.72). *empty metal paint cans can be bought at home depot. hope this helps :)

    • @backoff7659
      @backoff7659 8 років тому +2

      Yeah, and you can use the hominy to make a pot of manudo for those Sunday morning hang-overs, lol !!!

    The question is, should you use mass as a liner or insulation? This stove had sand and rocks; this will make it take longer to heat and cause it to lose heat. If you put fiberglass instead it will heat faster, hotter and burn more efficiently.

    Cool I might just try this rather than get a Habachi. Does the side can need to be so big? Wouldn't a tomato past can work just as well? I like this thanks for the FYI.

    • @julioleon559
      @julioleon559 3 роки тому

      The side can is a tomato paste can the inside us a huge vegetable can and the center can where the coal's go on it a 30 oz can of peaches use a magnet to get it out when you need to.

    If you're not the "building, diy" type, here's a quick solution:
    Buy an air fryer...
    Steaks ~set temp to 390°
    7 minutes each side.....
    Voilà!!!! 😎

    looks like you used 4 cans not 3....unclear about size of riser/holder....

    • @julioleon559
      @julioleon559 3 роки тому

      The riser can was a 30 oz peaches can cut down to fit over the small tomato paste can on the outside but it goes on the inside once you drill the holes on top for the ashes to fall through. Then you can remove the riser with a magnet if you need to.

    • @julioleon559

      Rise holder is a 30 oz can of peaches
