Thanks for the vid. IMO the extra weight of a Shadow supreme chain is way worth it. Chain break crashes can be pretty bad. I was lucky that my chain break happened to be into a grass bank, so the face plant wasn't devastating. My friend broke his chain going fast right before a concrete bank, and he face planted into it. He broke his skull in several places, even with a helmet, and had to be airlifted to the hospital, and has some memory damage. Long story short, burly chains are worth the price and weight, especially if you do sprocket tricks.
you forgot the hub gards hommie got to protect your spokes.love the videos bro been watching for few months now started ridding agine thank you for the insparation.
Sprocket materials are a key factor which I find lots of riders miss out and ends up buying more sprocket when they bend one or break one. 7075 and 6061 alloy are the 2 most common if not the only 2 alloy used for making a sprocket. 7075: Prone to chipping but tougher and stronger but weighs more 6061: Prone to bending instead of chipping but weigh less I have used 6061 sprockets and when I do crooks and fail, my sprocket bends like crazy and if your chain is too tight, it will bend as well. 6061 is more for park/trails because of its light weight while 7075 is more of street which I am using now and never once bend it even if I fail my crooked grinds and only issue I had was just a small chip on the spokes of the sprocket which doesn't really affect anything.
No chance my friend! 4130 heat treated? A bit overkill I would say but if it were to break, it should crack instead of bend but you don't have to worry about anything unless your are doing sprocket stalls.
I always liked haros spider anti slip they actually stand the test of time , I have a set that 20 yrs old on my 01 custom Dave mirra flair , got the gold Dave mirra Alex supra E pros , super heavy duty bike I absolutely love ❤️ to ride
Glad to have caught this vid. Was about to order my first ever set of pegs - plastic - but after seeing this I think i'll get cromo, as i'm dreaming of stall tricks rather than grind/slide. Thanks Alf.
Alls that you need is a certain size, 19mm bottom bracket, you want 19mm spindle and cranks. Make sure to put the spacer in your sprocket before putting it on so you don't ruin your spindle or your sprocket or even your bearings. Hope I helped!:)
I got a Primo powerbite v2 crank (oilslick) and had it fitted, however when I went to change my pedals, I noticed the thread was the wrong way around (they would loosen when peddled forward). I undid the crank and flipped it around, solved the problem with the pedal thread, but now the bolt that fastens into the spindle from the side and tightens it all together (not sure what it's called) has thread the same way as the pedal direction like the pedals did. Is this right, or have I got a faulty product? I would have assumed every thread would be set to tighten when peddled forward. Is the thread of the spindle lock-bolt not as important as the pedal thread? It does have pinch bolts on the connecting arm that are tight, does this mean it will not work it's way loose? Thanks, I did a bad job explaining the problem there, I could send a pic if it would help. Thanks again guys :D
Alfredo i was wondering if i show up to one of your stores you think you can help me put together a bike? well pretty much i need a frame , Sprocket, chain and pedals and maybe more?
half link chains are not better right? with the stress after so long of pedalling and the links stretching will change shape of the half link style. where as original style chain won't because the link pieces are flat. am i right?
Michael loden I've been riding 35yrs so I hear you. I didn't want to go to a 36/33/30 when they came out and then the 9&8t drivers hit and 20t (25/23/24/26/27/28) and getting a 44/16 or my more standard 45 or 46/16 got harder to find (unless you want a thinner race sprocket which trust me you don't. AKA- destroyed in days). I made the swap to a 33-12 and it was similar to the ratio I was use to. You can do the math, but I think it's very close (I'll toss in Dans gear ratio chart link). Next I went to a 30/10 and liked it. Now I'm 100% either 25 or 27/9. It feels good and is very easy to adjust to. Personally, it's more metal than physical. The ratios are all within a very small % of the former 44-16. I just think that being use to the older ratios, when you first go to a smaller size sprocket and driver...your mind tells you it has to be different. I would say that if you are planning to switch, do it. Getting a huge 44T from hitting stuff or even tweaking teeth is a pain riding street and park. And as I said they feel pretty much identical to what we had in the 80's and 90's. www.danscomp.com/media/pdf/Gear_Chart.pdf 56.9 vs 56.4 so a 25-9 is .5 different than a 44-16. If you have road as long as I have you can notice almost every small detail. But, it took say 2 days for it to feel exactly the same and like I said and the chart shows it's hardly a difference at all. Don't forget crank length too. A set of 175mm is standard pretty much for complete bikes now with a 25-9. However, you can alter the feeling and responce of whatever ratio you want with different crank arm length. I remember guys running a 180 and a 175 (or 182 depending on height) when I raced. The reason why is they wanted a shorter arm on the side they kept more up on the gate (slightly shorter on the down side). Allowing the second crank to come around faster for a stronger first 2 cranks to try to grab a holeshot. Same thing with park/street/dirt, only for them it's for other reasons. Things like a short chainstay to keep your heels from hitting the peg. Also a shorter crank arm to me helps me get up to speed faster. If you have a shorter run up on a trick, even if it's in my mind. Shorter cranks get you moving faster...well faster. Say 2 cranks instead of 4. According to the "charts" I need a 175-178mm crank arm. I now love 170-172mm cranks. That with a 26 or 27-9 and I feel I can get speed faster and gives me confidence to hit a gap for example that with 175-178mm arms I wouldn't be going fast enough for. + Alfredo Mancuso correct me if what I'm saying about cranks is incorrect. Hope that helps you out bro
M Davis thanks. I was kind of curious. I kind of quit riding about 20 or so years ago. My first bike shop bike was about a 79 Mongoose because I was bending frames on other bikes at about 10 years old. Lol. Then in 83 I got a Mongoose Californian, then a Haro Sport and several others. I still have the last bike I got in 96 and it's still all original. Everything has just changed so much over the years. Thanks.
Michael loden Oh I know lol I took 2 breaks the last was about the time cassettes came in. I had no idea what to do with one or was it a fad. Afterall everything in BMX comes out of some ideas and becomes a fad. Then it's up to production and design if it gets better and sticks around.
Hi Alf, do any sprockets come with a built in chain guard and also be spline drive? I like the concept behind spline however because I like too Mobb/race for fun at times I'm afraid I'll break my chain or blow it out when pedaling at full speed
I have an eclat vent guard sprocket and a half link chain (eclat four stroke ) and my sprocket starts having worn out marks under the teeth , what should I do ?
So I currently run a traditional sprocket and a mid-quality half link chain. I got the half link recently after snapping a weaker 410 chain. Is there a chain guard I can get to go over a traditional sprocket? And if it's a thing where can I get one and how much, or will I even need one with a half link?
Could you do a video like what piece you should buy first. Like when you have you're bmx bike built it is better to buy a spocket guards or hub guards?

@@AlfredoMancuso thank you for answering me. Putting washer after you put the small cone spacer on the cap that's covering the bb on the sprocket side. Man I took my bike apart to paint it. And when I put it back together it started to make a crunching sound and feels like it's skipping or the feeling of when I try and go up a hill or when I put pressure on the sprocket side. Before this I would walk the bike backwards and I would hear a clunking sound at the bb. But now I don't I re greased every thing. I didn't take out the bearings or that tube that sits in the middle of them. I lined up the sprocket and cassette and made sure the tire was center and tighted my chain. But I am missing that sprocket adapter. I just put like 2 washer after the small cone spacer. I turned the bike upside down and crank it and on some spots the chain gets loose and other spots loose or normal tension. Or is there another way to line up the sprocket and rear hub?

I commute on my bmx to my university to save on gas and a parking permit. So I was wondering if I should get a half shell helmet or go all out and buy a full faced bmx helmet. CresentMoon18 if you are planning to do bigger tricks which you haven't tried before get a full face, it protects you tons from getting hurt. but I go with half shell you can buy them virtually anywhere and they are just as good of you can get your hands out if front of you

the sprocket talk finally! 😂
Oh it has the fsa 44 tooth grind sprocket and is a southpaw drive
What could be the fastest gear ratio for a bmx
Racing gears, like a 30/9 but you need to run like 175 or 180 cranks
tree sprocket with a kmc 710 cool chain is pretty much the best though for extra bash protection get the original tree with the bolt on guard.
man these vids are sweet, alfredo seems like a cool dude
Steel pegs, 28t front sprocket to 12t rear sprocket, 610 master link chain is the best.

What chain should I use if I have a 2004 haro function f4
I have. a 25 tooth stranger guarded with the shadow interlock v2 so I'm over kill right now but if I get the cult chain will it help with my rear end to be slammed??? because right now it like hanging on the drop outs
Yea it should help if the half link chain hasn't done it for you
Thanks for anotha one
Since the interlock v2 chain isn't as strong as the supreme chain would u still recommend a guard sprocket?
Its still pretty damn strong, but you can't go wrong with the dual protection there
