    I have the last version of this saw. I retired my old abrasive saw for it, man I couldn't be happier. Fast forward a couple of years of fairly light use, its just about time for a new blade, I cant believe how long they last. Cant recommend them enough.

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  4 роки тому +1

      PyroMan_FPV Yes! As soon as I got one my old abrasive started collecting dust too. People say the blades on these saws are expensive but I disagree. Just like you I’ve had excellent life out of them. I believe if you let the saw “do the work” they hang around for a very long time.

    Helpful Tip: I love my EvoSaw380 too! But peppered me with hot chips too until I replaced the blade with a 14" TwinTown 66 tooth blade ($60 on Amazon) and it no longer spits chips at my face at all. Not really sure if it's a different rake angle or ??? But it's night and day safer. Still cuts through steel like butter. I've cut up to 4x4x0.375 square tube with ease. Hope this helps keep y'all safer! Best, @HoneyOnWales

    Holy moly, man. I finally got one of these. I should have done this a long time ago.
    --- I got the 380CPS, and was very skeptical. Then I was like, "Wow. This thing is heavy. Wow. That's a really sturdy fence. Wow. That screw is really solid. Wow, it's not even slowing down." My abrasive saw now has a spot outside my shop specifically for mystery metal.

      @@HouseofChop Yeah. I feel fortunate to have one of these.
      -- Not too long ago, the only options for better cut quality were band saws and cold saws. Don't get me wrong, either of those machines are better than this saw since they're quiet, cut better, and are safer (no chips to scatter), but they're ten times the price and weight, literally.
      -- These TCT saws are definitely "good enough". Deburring used to require a fair amount of time, grinding, and checking the fitment. Now, you just hit it with a file. Bam. Done. I love this saw.

  • @Dr_Xyzt
    @Dr_Xyzt 4 роки тому +1

    I've been thinking of getting one for practical reasons that everybody seems to be missing. 304SS. Cutting SS with an abrasive saw releases hexavalent chromium in the worst way. Tons of airborne sparks with lots of surface area seems like a more probable risk for hex-chrome than TIG or MIG welding. Plus, deburring the tubing with a flap wheel indoors in a vise.
    -- I always considered proper coolant-bathed cold saws with HSS blades as superior machines, and really they still are. BUT, a 14" dry-cut saw is $500. A 14" cold saw is $5K. So, a machine like this starts to make a lot of sense. Better cut quality than a band saw. Twist my arm. This is a good machine!

      Did a bit about ear protection in the video. I do have plugs in they are skin tone so they are hard to see. These blades are designed to cut dry never tried to oil one and see if there is an advantage. Would be an interesting video to see a A/B test on blade life. For my purposes the clean cut saves time and mess.

    How would you compare this to the miter do they do the same thing if there both the same size with the same blade ? I really like the cuts you can get out of the miter saw especially when cutting 45’s on 20 foot length sticks in a garage it’s not to easy to be moving around your saw and that’s exactly why I like the features on the miter saw but does it cut metal the way the blue one does ?

    • @HouseofChop
      @HouseofChop  2 роки тому +1

      I agree with everything you have written there. I have the 10” Evolution miter and have used it a whole lot more. With that said it no where near has the power of the saw in this video. When I’m cutting heavier materials, anything 1/8” thick and up I break out this saw and it makes very short work of it. The other place where this machine wins is on larger materials. Over 1” this is far better. At the end of the day they are really different machines for different purposes. For the money having both would not be a bad idea if you are doing a variety of metal work but if I could only have one I’d pick the miter.

    • @benb6801
      @benb6801 2 роки тому

      @@HouseofChop I’ll probably just make a chop saw station and scratch out the miter saw then I pretty much only do metal work so I guess the blue one would be more ideal For me. Would definitely be a game changer if evolution turned the 14 inch metal saw into a miter saw they would be the first company to do so I guess because I don’t see any other metal chop saws that come as a miter saw

    Thanks for your post. I would like to ask about your Evolution cut-off saw. Have you tried cutting thick square tube with it? Does the blade last on say, 1/8" thick steel tube? I have wasted a bunch of money on blades, trying to find a good solution for cutting, accurately and quickly. I bought an Evolution 10" carbide blade for one of my regular miter saws (5200 rpm blade). It dry cut the 1/8" thick 2" x 3" tube fine for 3 cuts and then was dull. That was a waste of around $80!!
    I went to Lowe's and bought the only 10" steel cutting blade they carried (DeWalt $70) and it lasted 3 cuts (even trying to use a spray lube.
    I had an old (not dull) metal cutting blade and it only lasted 3 cuts on 3" x 3" x 1/8" mild steel welded tubing.
    I was just wondering how the slower cold cut Evolution saw does on thick tubing.
    Thank you.

      Watch the video it’s all there. It’s a beast. If you let the tool do the work the blades will last for quite a while. I’ve had great luck with both the 10” and 14” saws and all I use them on is metal.

    • @moonmadman
      @moonmadman 2 роки тому

      Saw does fine as it is low RPM and the heat generated by the 5K rpm wood saw kills these carbide blades, which is why your blade went bad so quickly. You can buy a rheostat that will cut the RPM down to about 2K, which is high but workable. Work slow, use tube wax blade lube and you'll get a fair amount of life out of these blades with these Evo saws. Rheostats are like $20. Plug and play (except they come with 7.5 amp fuses; switch out to 15 amp fuse and try that) Gud luk!

One thing, don't release the trigger too soon, wait until it completes the cut (like you showed). If you release it before a complete cut it'll knock off the carbides (ask me how I know! LOL!!).

      The multimaterial saw, might be a better choice for you. Cutting 1/4” steel would be pushing it a bit, but it will definitely get it done. I would absolutely use a dedicated blade for wood and one for steel. The multimaterial blade won’t last long in steel of that thickness.
      I have the multimaterial 10” Evolution
      saw as well and have used it on quite a few 1/8” projects.

    I’ve got the Rage 2 and I got about a year out of the 14” blade with pretty frequent use. The main reason I had to replace it was my fault - I ran it down into the material without letting it get up to speed and it knocked off a few carbide tips. Once you lose a few the blade gets out of balance and the whole thing vibrates. Defiantly pay attention to the instructions! On another note, I’d love to see you do a chip catcher build for this. That 14” saw is a beast! If you are commonly working in material over an 1/8” I’d recommend the 14” saw. The miter saw will do the heavier stuff but you lose some efficiency. What you lose is easily picked up the convenience of executing angle cuts quickly. So if you do a whole lot of angle cuts the miter might be the better option. It all comes down to the work you do most.

      I wouldn’t say it’s any louder. My 2¢ about these saws being loud is it seems to be one of these internet truths that just doesn’t hold up in the real world. Anytime I’ve used one it’s never struck me as much louder when compared to other circular style cutting saws and your going to want to have your ears plugged or covered anyway because of the chips.
