The headlights in my wife's 2011 Subaru Outback were worse than this. It was so bad they extended the warranty to cover headlights for ten years (after I had already replaced them). We traded it for a 2017. It's headlights can be replaced in about 30 seconds.
@playlistsgaylore6647 look up a 2010 ram 1500 headlight bulb replacement. Have to take off the whole front grill reach into the wheelwells pop a plastic tab, remove the whole headlight assembly then you can swap the bulbs. Absolute joke.
@@jacobjacob1835 Same thing with my 2010 Acura TL. Had to take the whole front bumper and headlight assemblies out of the car just to replace the high beams, low beams require a full assembly replacement.
Big thanks! My head light went out and I been using my high beams so I don’t get pulled over. Now on my day off imma get my hands on a bulb and do it my self!!!! Thank you! My girl gonna love me more lol
Thank you so much for this video!!! It took me a minute to get everything off/unplugged, but I finally got it! I’ve never replaced a headlight or taillight on my car before and didn’t want to pay for someone else to do it. This is just what I needed.
My son sent me this as we needed to change the headlight on our 2010 Civic. We watched your video and then even watched parts while we were working on the headlight. Great step by step. THANKS!
Life tip: to make removing and replacing the passenger side low beam lamp (9006) that is difficult to get to/remove, first remove the high beam bulb/socket (9005) next to it. These two lamps are on the same wiring harness but separated by a short distance. By releasing the high beam and letting it "float," it is much easier to work on the low beam socket/lamp behind the fender cowling. Once the low beam is free, you can then pull it outside of the fender cowling in the open air to remove the socket, place the new lamp in the socket, and then install it. After that, get under the hood and replace the much-easier to reach high beam. I discovered this when installing LED lights in my old 2008 Civic today. I.e., the short span between the two headlamp harnesses makes it difficult to work on one socket while the other socket is plugged in!
If you’re having trouble twisting the new lightbulb into place, try tapering the x3 plastic tabs. I used wire cutters to shave the plastic tabs into a “K bevel”. I spent 1 hour fighting it and was about ready to pull the headlight assembly off the car. But this tip worked for me. Thx for the video, turning the steering wheel helps out a lot.
Thank you! Did both, had heck of a time getting both unplugged with my 2008. Took both hands and wedging with a screwdriver. Then I had fun trying to balance the coolant so it wouldn't spill but who cares, I can see at night again!
It's on the passenger side.. Trying to change the light on my friend's car, she's been pulled over 3 times in one week for it and we work night shift so we NEED to get it changed like immediately. Thank you kind sir!
By the way, I had to use wire cutters to cut the tabs to fit it in there. I have a college math education and am certain that it's geometrically impossible to fit it in otherwise. However they do it in the factory must involve sorcery or quantum tunneling
Thank you Rick. Your video was very helpful. Especially the coolant reservoir removal. Appreciate your video and the fact it was not too long. John 3:16 Lord Bless you.
Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out how to remove the reservoir. It felt like it could be pulled up & out, but I was afraid that I would snap off something hidden underneath. You have saved me so much time & money with your video. You are definitely a caring soul. May God, (or the aliens?, LOL) bless you!🙏👽👍
I agree. This is dumb. If you are ever bored, look up videos on replacing headlights in a 2011 Subaru Outback. It makes the Civic look easy. We sold ours and got a later model. Changing a light bulb in it is a 2 minute job.
Thanks for the video. I just purchased NAPA, night vision VIVID bulbs from the NAPA just down the street. The package says 2 year warranty. BP9006NVV-N. 2010 HONDA CIVIC. The total cost with Minnesota sales tax was $52.59.
Thanks for this how-to! Appreciated!👍 It irritates me to no end when car manufactures/engineers design and build systems like this. C'mon guy/gal engineers, it's a bulb, it needs to be changed. Access should be fast, easy and unobstructed. 🤬----Honda is by no means the only offender in this area.
Dumb question, but do I need to disconnect the battery before replacing the bulbs? Thank you uploading this video - you're a legend and it's really straightforward for car noobs like me :)
I'm not sure what the official service manual recommends but I never disconnect the battery for headlights. You just want to make sure the car is off and the key is out of the ignition so there is no power to the bulbs. Bulbs can be very hot if they were operating recently but dead bulbs will be cool.
This is easy, you should should change one Cadillac, many Ford's and GM. Most imports. Iv been a auto tech for 40 years. Some labor times call for 4 to 6 hrs shop time. Over a grand sometimes. They look nice though lol
We used to have a 2011 Subaru Outback. It was a huge PITA to replace the bulbs. Subaru actually extended the warranty on the bulb replacement to ten years. We got a later model and it only takes a minute. It was terrible they designed it so bad but at least they fixed it in the newer model
If I replace these again, I'm switching to LED. I have a link to some in the description but there are many other options available that aren't very expensive.
This is so stupid every video shows this but there’s a giant metal piece blocking the path on mine . Can’t fit my hand in from hood either. Mechanics problem now 😞
My wife's 2011 Subaru also had terrible headlight design. They fixed it on the newer models. Headlights are super important. Changing them should take all of one minute.
Love how calm this guy is about explaining what could be the dumbest design for a headlight

Your one of the only ones showing a useable method for the right side, some do the left side and say the right side is just as easy, no way.
Used your guide today to replace my low lights with LED. Thank you so much for the guide. It was way more easy than I anticipated. 💯
With LED, hopefully you will never have to change them again.
@@Rickmakes I assume the high beams are the same basically?

Thanks for the help! That connector was such a pain I needed the guidance for your screwdriver method more than anything else
Thanks Rick, your video and instructions helped make this a routine bulb replacement
I do not believe in hell but i do believe that whoever at Honda designed the passenger bulb access is going there
😂😂😂😂
....then you believe in Hell. It's real.

That passenger side bulb is a huge pain to replace.
Thanks Rick. Just changed the bulb on my kid's car. Took less than 5 minutes after watching this.

That’s a pretty stupid design. A light bulb should be easy access. Thanks for the video.

Much thanks. Yeah, you're right about that passenger side. That was a real pain! If not for that it would have been a breeze.
The other videos for bulb replqcement essentially have u rip apart the entire front of ur car. Thx for this good one to avoid that
Appreciate your help and video. Replaced my sister's bulbs.
Thank you! I was able to replace it.
thanks for the information, but you made getting that coolant tank back in place look easy 😅
Oh no! I was trying to represent the difficulty the best I could but apparently my skill got in the way. 😁
Thank you for sharing your video! I followed your guidance and it all went well. Thanks!
What bulbs low beam and high beam light for honda civic 2007
Thanks for the instructions - made the replacement easy!
Where can I buy the connectors for the fender or what are the names so I can look it up
Hi Rick, where can i get an replecment connector for this Honda , the connector on 1:36, thank you
I'm guessing most auto parts stores would carry one. I tend to go to NAPA.
Appreciate the tips 👍🏻
Thanks so much. Got it done with your help.

Was that 9006 for high beam? Should i use 9006 or 9005 bulb?
9006 is the regular headlight.
Great video Rick
I have tiny hands, can confirm, I can reach it from the top
You can just pull the passenger side under hood trim off and remove the washer fluid tube and then you have access. Tight but way easier
Excellent video and explanation. Thank you!
This guy saying, “ I used a screwdriver to pry it” and he shows a Phillips 😅
There are 2 bulbs each...right? Low and hi beam?
Correct. I think the high beam has a different bulb model but am not sure off the top of my head.
Thanks for the help.

good job bro

It's easier to remove the washer fluid fill reservoir
Thanks ❤
You could have removed the windshield washer fluid neck. Then you would have been able to reach the bulb
💘
Hmm my civic headlight bulbs dont look like that at all
Ya I gave up after 5 min took it to my mechanic friend
Sometimes that’s the best option.
You can fix your bumper with a hair dryer 😊

Have them install good quality LED bulbs so you can hopefully go a long time without replacing them.
friend spent $100 to have a mechanic do this 🤦🏽♂️
Yikes! A seasoned mechanic could do this job in a few short minutes so that seems very high.

I recently paid my mechanic $84 to change two headlight bulbs. Glad it done. I tried the wheel well cover way, but couldn’t see the Low Beam bulb.
I hate my 07 Civic. Biggest piece of shit ive ever owned.
Engine? Transmission? or something else.
Well this video sucks. You basically have to break stuff to replace the passenger bulb.
I not gonna by Honda just for this stupid shit for something verry sinple
