    I’d say the formal shoe last is more limiting - for your toes! Crazy that the rounder one is considered wide. I’m making my own shoes now and the first thing is tracing my foot so that it’s actually shaped after my foot and not the foot getting shaped by my shoes 😊

    its alarming the lack of good INFORMATIVE tutorials on youtube , thank you for taking time to explain and actually teach something because the majority of "tutorials" on youtube are just montages and not actually tutorials

    Thank you for going to all the work required to filming and editing this shoemaking series. It is much appreciated! I especially enjoy that you didn't edit out your mistakes, but included them as another layer of learning for us viewers. I have watched many shoemaking videos, and yours is right up there at the top for how informative it is.

    Love it!!!! New to the whole craft. I have super narrow feet and shoe shopping is like shopping for Cinderella....nothing fits usually....except that rare one pair! What would be a narrow width designation for a last? (women's shoes)

    • @AndrewReesonLeather
      @AndrewReesonLeather  3 роки тому +2

      Last width is designated by a letter after the size number (10D, 8A etc.) Standard women's lasts are B width, men's are D. I guess you could look for an A width or shave down a standard last

    Hello, thanks for the video, it was very useful. I have a question regarding the insole space. After measuring everything like you did, will there be space for an insole? If not, how can i add those few millimeters to the last in order to be able to then add an insole inside the shoe?

    • @AndrewReesonLeather
      @AndrewReesonLeather  Рік тому +1

      I'm not sure if it's needed, but it can't hurt. Glue a piece of leather the same thickness as the insole to the bottom of the last.

      If I were you I would make my own last by making plaster casting of the actual foot, then shaping it to the shoe shape you’d like, cast it one more time with a mix of epoxy and sawdust. You may spend more time making it but you save money and satisfaction of making the last exactly the way you want

    Thank you for such a clear, concise, and iformative series on shoemaking. This has taken a lot of the mystery out of it for me. One quick question, in researching buying my first last (haha) I noticed they are not sold as styles such as derby or oxford, etc., but seem to have model numbers. Are those numbers different for each company or is there a uniform code of model numbers that is industry standard? How does one know they are buying a last for a derby shoe?

    • @AndrewReesonLeather
      @AndrewReesonLeather  8 місяців тому

      I suspect shapes would be brand dependent, but I really wouldn't know. Unless you can get your hands on a pair I think there will be some guesswork involved.
