Hey Brian, good video man! It was nice to see someone kinda fumble with a task and make mistakes, it made me confident to try this out and learn from your mistakes. So that's what I did and I converted my tires to tubeless yesterday! So thanks again man, keep the videos coming!
In a pinch hose repair tape for autos will work, available at most gas stations and auto part stores. Just a cheap alternative that will work if you're desperate.
After watching this I decided to go tubeless. I went to my lbs and they set me up. looks good so far. I have WTB tires with their tubeless setup. I'll see if they hold air overnight. Thankfully my rims were taped already.
+Brian Vaughn Awesome, dude. You'll love it. Just gotta check them after 6 or so weeks and see if it's still liquid or if it's all turned into a Stan's booger. You'll know what I mean when you see it.
I have got a more recent stumpjumper which is tubeless ready. It has different rims but with the same tires, Ground control at the rear and Purgatory at the front. I did the conversion but I am not really happy with those tires. They are very fragile with sides very very thin. The Stan's sealant leaks through micro holes on the sides. I ride at least twice a week and I have to inflate the tires every time I ride. I changed the Ground control tire with some Maxxis Aggressor and no more leaks...
i need to try this, i wanted to go tubeless on the DH bike, but im now finishing up getting my trail bike ready for spring and i want to try tubeless conversion on that bike. thanks man
Hi, I would get completely rid of old tape on the rim in order to let the stan-tape to perfectly stick to the wheel. I usually clean up the rim with alcohol or similar before to apply the tape. Another tip: when you put the sealant into the tire, before to close the gap, turn the wheel 180 degrees so you avoid the liquid to come out because of the squash. Cheers Nick (binc75)
Yeah man, Nicola is correct. I'm glad it's working for you, but you should take the old tape out for sure, to ensure the stan's tape is adhering to the rim itself instead of to the tape, which could move around and burp air or create a larger leak. Also, other comments about Gorilla tape are bueno. We use it in the shop instead of stan's tape. Seals well. But it is a little heavier.
I tried to set same kind of rims without red tape and it was impossible to seat it with floor pump. So, if you leave red tape and use tubeless tape on it - you won't need air compressor. Red tape itself not so heavy. About 20 grams for 29" rim
Nice. Curious and pleased to see that it worked on what I presume to be tyres and rims that are not "officially" stated to be "tubeless ready"? I guess I thought it only worked with actual tubeless stuff...
BKXC haha yeah well I'm gonna give it a try. Got those same ground control tyres and not actually had any punctures yet....shouldn't have said that....but they seem fairly robust for a light kind of stuff I do.
I'm hoping you got the Tracer. I ended up ordering mine from the UK as opposed to Jenson. In the end Intense should get the same amount of money but it was 25% cheaper than what they were pricing here for the same bike, and I will have to completely build the thing. Or just drop it off at my LBS. I can't wait to see what you got!
I just went tubeless on my Canyon strive 7.0 form 2013 with "tubeless ready" rims on... had some bubbling out of the spoke nipples but it stopped after a while. I'm a bit unsure of what will happen now when I go out biking, but I'm guessing its fine. ;) No previous experience with tubeless....
Worked great! :D felt like the bike was more playful... Have never had a puncture before with my factory tubes... And I'm not that careful. :) Maybe it's better to have tape for tubeless then the normal protection rim tape to protect against punctures in general.
Sorry, off-topic, but.. I have the same bike and tires as your dad (I am also a dad). I did not ride for a few years so I think my rubber is hard, but fairly new. I am thinking of putting a slightly wider tire on the front and putting the front 2.2inch on the back. Rolling resistance is not an issue as my trails are always turning or doing something so any increase in cornering confidence will make me much faster than faster rolling tires. suggestions? Ideas? I have the stock 24mm wide tires and am concerned that 2.4 inch wide tires might be too wide for the rims.
I noticed that you did this with a regular foot pump, i thought you had to do it with an air compressor? I really want to convert my specialized enduro comp 29er.
Brother, I've got a 2016 Specialized Enduro that I want to go Tubeless with. I just got a set of Specialized 2Bliss Grid Tires (Butcher & Slaughter)... I just took off my original tires and noticed that the inside of the rims already feature rubberized coating from Specialized branded "2Bliss" compatible. -literally, the rubber coating inside the rims says "2Bliss Compatible", I suppose that means Im ready to go and just need Stans Valves and Sealant" Im assuming Specialized Rims with 2Bliss compatibility and Specialized 2Bliss branded tires should be plug n play right?
BKXC Not that great if u like to climb still however.. It truly is like a mini Downhill sled.. Awesome on the downs.. I still value my climbing however.
Just wait a bit and ride the bike. There should be no more air / sealant coming out of the spoke nipples after 1-2 rides. Had the same "problem". It fixed itself :-)
I just bought a bike that can go tubeless. My question is what should tire pressure be and is there an issue with keeping air in the tire if the bike sits for a week or 2 without riding?
yea man!! can't wait to see your new steed! how do you like the Osprey Raptor hydration that you showed us on your video, any review after several times of riding. I am interested of getting the Raptor 10 which is a bit smaller.
I ride clipped in and I like being "one with the bike". Lots of people who are faster riders than me ride with flat pedals, so it's just personal preference.
I sent my bike to a bike shop and I was told that the bead on my tire couldn't be set because there was a problem with the wheel which caused the tire to have an air bubble/pocket when the air was put in the tire. Can someone explain this to me?
kind of cracked me up. funny show... not really the best "how to" video though. not that that was what you were going for. i'm no repair expert but I did get my ghetto tubeless done recently and so far so good. keep up the show!
i am getting a specialized pitch sport 650b and would like to make it tubeless and this was the video that i thought would teach me to create a tubeless wheel, and it did
Charles Holland with a knife, you need to be really fucking careful not to stab the fuck out of the tape, like this guy. The best is to punch a round hole in the tape, with a small drillbit, or a thick needle or something. And just push the valve through, then you'll have a allmost airtight seal to begin with. Not half an inch tear in the tape that will eat up half your sealant
You're buying the Bronson, but they are almost the same bike frame, therefore the best component package for the price should have been the deciding factor
2016 Bronson cc XO1! Do i win a prize? Hey man, maybe sometime you can make a video where you build your own wheels. I have always been curious to see if it is really hard to do.
+BK-XC yea it's more abrasion resistant to protect the tube from expanding into the nipple holes in the rim and burrs in the metal from drilling the holes.
This was kinda a train wreck of a how to video. You should have absolutely removed the stock red rim strip and cleaned the rim thoroughly before you taped with the yellow Stans tape. Love your videos, but this was not good advice for anyone that wants to do this same thing at home.
Agreed, I hope that BKXC removed that old rim strip and did a proper job. It should be understood that if you get sealant in your rim you need to immediately clean it out or else you'll have seized nipples and that much more rotational weight. It needs to be said, even with tubeless as popular as it is, ALMOST NO RIMS COME PRE-TAPED FROM THE FACTORY!
Hey Brian Like you I think tubeless rocks. But you how it is, you think about swapping out to try a new tire, but put it off because of the dreaded sealant mess. It you have not seen it already, check out milKit (www.milkit.bike). The greatest invention for adding and removing sealant with no mess. Keep the videos coming they are awesome.
Uh...how do you not know the difference between rim tape and tape for tubeless?? Did he actually tape over the rim tape as well?! How do you not remove the rim tape before applying the Stans rim tape? How do you make a UA-cam video on bike maintenance and not watch UA-cam videos on how to do it properly? I can understand if the video was made in 2008, but this was poster in 2016!

Sweeet! Glad it helped
dude i love how you include the trial and error in the video and you didn't edit it out! Keep it up mate. its original, Peace!
Gotta keep it real!
In a pinch hose repair tape for autos will work, available at most gas stations and auto part stores. Just a cheap alternative that will work if you're desperate.
Oh nice!
I can testify that the specialized ground control are decent for trail riding, also high rolling resistance has a bit of puncture protection.
take off the red tape from the rim, and re tape it with stans tape
Good call!
made the same mistake, the original tape is only to protect innertube from the spoke holes, remove and replace! :-)
kenyo lopez caceres yes. That made me cringe
lol !
Same thing I thought, about the red tape!!!
Maybe not quite an Oscar nomination for acting yet, but so appreciated anyway. And that's what really matters.
Thanks!!
Dude you have The same hair as Kramer in Seinfeld.
Great video and so glad I got to see someone trying to fit tubeless first time. Very confident building and I'll try it out soon.
Thanks!!
Definitely do not tighten the spokes!
After watching this I decided to go tubeless. I went to my lbs and they set me up. looks good so far. I have WTB tires with their tubeless setup. I'll see if they hold air overnight. Thankfully my rims were taped already.

What a Coincidence, i just put on a new tubeless tire on my bike today! 😄😃
As usual, great video 📹 👍
Haha, nice! Thanks Yaron.
This was the most helpful simple way to do this thank you now I can convert mine to tubelessss
Nice!
Nice! I've been using Maxxis Minion DHRII / DHF now and couldn't be happier!
Great ! when the front purgatory is completely worn I'll change it with a DHF ;)
BTW, wonderful vids in Moab and the basque country. Thumbs up
Thanks so much, dude!
i need to try this, i wanted to go tubeless on the DH bike, but im now finishing up getting my trail bike ready for spring and i want to try tubeless conversion on that bike. thanks man
Do it! Totally worth it
Hi,
I would get completely rid of old tape on the rim in order to let the stan-tape to perfectly stick to the wheel.
I usually clean up the rim with alcohol or similar before to apply the tape.
Another tip: when you put the sealant into the tire, before to close the gap, turn the wheel 180 degrees so you avoid the liquid to come out because of the squash.
Cheers
Nick (binc75)
Thanks for the tips, Nick! I may follow your advice and pull out the old tape.
It's funny you commented on this one today because I noticed the back tire is flat now! Time for another round!
There is also a sealant that can be used around the tyre bead where it meets with the rim. But looks like you got away without using that.
Interesting!
i had ground controls i highly recommend them im wondering if you would use them on rallon myo you have
Man look at those biceps!!! Hahaha ur pretty ripped bro!
Yep, you can still make it happen, it's just not perfect!
BKXC haha yeah well I'm gonna give it a try. Got those same ground control tyres and not actually had any punctures yet....shouldn't have said that....but they seem fairly robust for a light kind of stuff I do.
That's is Bry, I'm breaking down and going tubeless!
Yeah, time to do it!
That's dope. No nose dive
Also. Cool shirt
Thanks bud! I dig the shirt too!
Awesome! You'll love it, man. I hope you don't have any extra parts once you put it together!
You and me both! Maybe I should do an unboxing video.
Yeah, that'd be cool!
The red tape is a liner so you don’t pinch your tube so if you see that you take it out and re do it with actual tubeless tape
You got the Tracer!
😳
This channel is sooo bogan I love it!
That's how we roll!
great video. you made it look easy. maybe time to go tubeless on the thunderbolt.
Thanks G! Definitely the first upgrade I would do with any bike.
I just went tubeless on my Canyon strive 7.0 form 2013 with "tubeless ready" rims on... had some bubbling out of the spoke nipples but it stopped after a while. I'm a bit unsure of what will happen now when I go out biking, but I'm guessing its fine. ;)
No previous experience with tubeless....
Time will tell!
Worked great! :D felt like the bike was more playful... Have never had a puncture before with my factory tubes... And I'm not that careful. :)

I have the stock 24mm wide tires and am concerned that 2.4 inch wide tires might be too wide for the rims.
Dang, good questions! I would hit up the local bike shop and see what they say, hard to know without being able to see it in person.
I noticed that you did this with a regular foot pump, i thought you had to do it with an air compressor? I really want to convert my specialized enduro comp 29er.
Just got a 2016 stumpjumper and looking to go tubeless.
Nice! You won't regret it.
Over a period of three days I had four pinch flats... I converted to tubeless and haven't had a flat since(over a year of heavy riding.) Do it!
Dude, you are freakin Jacked in this vid. Nice!!
I have 2020 rockhopper. Sport what do you think will it work?
How about a video with you and your Dad out for a ride?
Not a bad idea!
morgan roberts sr same thought here. I am 63 and would like to ride with my son.
Good looking trails. Can you give more info on the trails and best place to park. I live like 40 min from there. Thx
I think so! Give it a go
My Stumpy came with tubeless valves in a bag.
Nice vid as always! Bruh, the YT Capra is the shit! tough tough choices though 🤔! Great choices on which bike you may have bought. Lol. Cheers!🍻👍
+Edd Arell Thanks Edd! Heard such great things about that bike.
BKXC Not that great if u like to climb still however.. It truly is like a mini Downhill sled.. Awesome on the downs.. I still value my climbing however.
Is a non-tubeless tire gonna work?
It's a tubeless tire!
Should I put tubless tyres on my specialized demo 8 2015 downhill bike
I don't do downhill so I'm not sure if it's worth it!
Im trying it tonight, let ya know
Brain looking huge in the thumbnail 😯
Hahaha
Just wait a bit and ride the bike. There should be no more air / sealant coming out of the spoke nipples after 1-2 rides. Had the same "problem". It fixed itself :-)
Awesome, thanks for the info!
You should try orange seal. it works better then the stans.
Nice, I'll hit them up!
When you get your new bike make sure you don't forget to close the garage door lol
Gonna put a motherfuckin' moat and medieval drawbridge around my house!
I just bought a bike that can go tubeless. My question is what should tire pressure be and is there an issue with keeping air in the tire if the bike sits for a week or 2 without riding?
Tire pressure is always dependent, but 25 psi is a good start. You should be fine leaving it sitting around for a while.
yea man!! can't wait to see your new steed! how do you like the Osprey Raptor hydration that you showed us on your video, any review after several times of riding. I am interested of getting the Raptor 10 which is a bit smaller.
+Ryan Docena Thanks I can't wait! The Osprey pack has been really solid. Feels light, holds a lot of water and has plenty of room. Everything I need.
sounds good bro! I will give it a shot and try it on. thank you man!
+Ryan Docena For sure! I think my version got as low as $100 on Amazon recently so keep an eye out for deals.
my inner width is 29mm what size tape should I get?
Great video! What tires are on your dad's bike?
Thanks, man! Purgatory up front and Ground Control out back.
nice vid.... do you ride clipped in or not??? just curious about how people feel about it?
I ride clipped in and I like being "one with the bike". Lots of people who are faster riders than me ride with flat pedals, so it's just personal preference.
I like your T-shirt dude
Thanks man! Here's where I got it: www.designbyhumans.com/shop/t-shirt/tiger-tiger/44000/
I need to do this. I've been putting if off for WAY too long and I'm SO sick of getting flats. Just too scared.
Take it into a shop, they'll get you fixed up!
There is noting to be scared about! Going tubeless is a 100% positive experience... unless you get the sealant all over you when installing.
brian what wheel size is the stumpjumper of your dads?
29er!
doesputting glitter on the sealant really work on plugging up punctures? saw some guy doing it on youtube and it worked
Good to know! Stan really started it all and knows this stuff so no surprise they would be on top of this tech.
+Andrew Zegel yeah that guy!
Nice!
What's this liquids name?????
must be a really well worn tire or used to get it on that easily
Is that a 29er?
I sent my bike to a bike shop and I was told that the bead on my tire couldn't be set because there was a problem with the wheel which caused the tire to have an air bubble/pocket when the air was put in the tire. Can someone explain this to me?
kind of cracked me up. funny show... not really the best "how to" video though. not that that was what you were going for. i'm no repair expert but I did get my ghetto tubeless done recently and so far so good. keep up the show!
Haha, that was kind of the point!
what pump is that?
Lezyne something, I don't recommend it.
lol! alright! I thought the pump head looks so easy to use.
Haha, it screws on but it always makes the valve stem loose! Gotta get another one eventually.
Okay, Now I have to request a tube vs tubeless comparison video, ride difference, and is it worth converting?
It's definitely worth converting. I love the feel of the lower air pressure and how the tires grip more and bounce around less.
Jesus look at those biceps
u got the new Bronson cc
😐
loved the video really helped. keep up the good work
Thanks Pedro!
What brand is that t shirt?it is awesome :) nice vid
hey dude i am waiting for the new gimbal { zhiyun rider } review 🙏🏼📹📸
It hasn't worked! They want me to send it back to Hong Kong. Yikes.
+BK-XC oh ok what do u think which camera is better the rider M or feiyu like size ways and belt quality
+Rafed Hossini just because I am trying to buy one
The Feiyu actually works, so that's my recommendation!
helpful, thanks mate
😁👍
i am getting a specialized pitch sport 650b and would like to make it tubeless and this was the video that i thought would teach me to create a tubeless wheel, and it did
I cringed when he cut the rim tape with a Stanley knife.
walmart tools, golden
Me too.
What exactly should be used? I'd likely go to a double sided razor that's 10 cents.
Not half an inch tear in the tape that will eat up half your sealant
i have a 26'' purgatory on the front
God bless. U need to take that red tube protector off, and clean the wheel, then tape.
take while for it to fully sael
You're buying the Bronson, but they are almost the same bike frame, therefore the best component package for the price should have been the deciding factor
Almost, not quite, the same frame!
2016 Bronson cc XO1! Do i win a prize? Hey man, maybe sometime you can make a video where you build your own wheels. I have always been curious to see if it is really hard to do.
Haha, no prizes! I've never thought about building my own wheels, that could be pretty interesting. Thanks for the idea!
The tape wasn't tubeless tape, so it is porous. It's like showing up to a water balloon fight and trying to fill your socks with water.
Ah, thanks! Is it just on there to cover things up and look nice?
+BK-XC yea it's more abrasion resistant to protect the tube from expanding into the nipple holes in the rim and burrs in the metal from drilling the holes.
That makes sense, thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Spoke tension wont effect anything.
Except the tension of your spokes.... :)
awesome t shirt
Thanks man, there is a link in the comments here somewhere to it!
Yeah, it looked like that red tape stuff would've worked fine. Wonder what's up with that? Oh well, you got it!
Yep, the red stuff was just for show, apparently!
I have no Idea what real difference it makes going tubeless!
My bike has tubeless ready rims and tires but I am using tubes.
Less flats and you can run lower tire pressure for more grip.
TY! Will try tubeless in the near future. As my riding gets more aggressive, suspect that it will help :)
This was kinda a train wreck of a how to video. You should have absolutely removed the stock red rim strip and cleaned the rim thoroughly before you taped with the yellow Stans tape. Love your videos, but this was not good advice for anyone that wants to do this same thing at home.
Haha, that was kind of the point. Normal person fumbling around. But it worked and sealed so I considered it a success.
I would have F'd this work up far worse, so I really appreciate knowing I'm the beneficiary of this video.
Dustin Cardoza but this wasn't a how to video
This isn't a how to video.
Ok so why does my local bike shop want to charge me $60.00 per tire, when I can do this myself?
Nice
Thanks bud!
Pro tip: Seat it and pump it up without Stans first.
Good call!
Hello, can I do this to my Huffy 29" Men's Warhawk Mid-Fat Tire Bike, Black? thanks
Has to be the Bronson
Whatever it is, I hope it ships soon!
Understand that pain. just got a canyon took 8 weeks to arrive
Wow. That'd be tough. How do you like it?
Absolutely love it. i smile every time i look at her. Great videos btw
Thanks man!
Intense Tracer
😳
Yo why not give me an old bike of yours!!😂
Thank you front tire for being easy😂😂😂
U got to do a dry try because u waste sealing
them bicep tho
😁👍
it's kinda weird, having channel about biking without ever using a spoke tensioning/truing...
Hey Brian
Like you I think tubeless rocks. But you how it is, you think about swapping out to try a new tire, but put it off because of the dreaded sealant mess. It you have not seen it already, check out milKit (www.milkit.bike). The greatest invention for adding and removing sealant with no mess.
Keep the videos coming they are awesome.
+Fuzzy954 Dude! I have seen the milkit and I HAVE one. I'm just waiting for my new bike to show off the system.
✌️👍🏼✌️👍🏼
:D
thanks
Uh...how do you not know the difference between rim tape and tape for tubeless?? Did he actually tape over the rim tape as well?! How do you not remove the rim tape before applying the Stans rim tape? How do you make a UA-cam video on bike maintenance and not watch UA-cam videos on how to do it properly? I can understand if the video was made in 2008, but this was poster in 2016!
nevermind i just now saw it on video lol
Haha, it's all good!
I WANNA BE TRACER.
Sorry this is an old video and a new trend
wouldve been less messy to dry fit first "p
Haha next time
Tracer!
🙈 🙉 🙊
+BK-XC ha ha, nice
