  • Engraving ~3mm window glass with cheap 40W made in China CO2 laser. Cutting is not optimal, it is only first test. No need to use so many passes, as cut line is quite deep. I'll test in curves mode next time.

    Excellent beginning and results. Caution maximum mA value for 40W laser tube should not exceed approximately 12 mA. Greater settings will over-drive the laser tube and deplete the tube CO2, shortening useful life DRAMATICALLY. Perhaps even to months. Also saw dramatic glass etching improvement when, commercially available, glass etching mask film used to cover glass.
    Just passing on techniques learned on you-tube.
    Recommend, to all, reworks learning lab video series with Russ Sadler.
    Enjoy and stay safe, i.e. use protective eyeglasses when cover is open. ron

      +lunar3660000 Just plain window glass. And yes, it can cut plastic, wood, etc.

    • @user-gm5mh5ye2d
      @user-gm5mh5ye2d 8 років тому

      +lunar3660000 Cutting the plastics or similar materials with laser can be tricky and troublesome. I tried cutting acrylic glass with 80W laser and, due to temperature, the egdes started melting. Also, they had cone shape (the part closer to the laser head was wider than the other side).

    • @savelkaunas
      @savelkaunas  8 років тому +2

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) either it was very thick plastic, or your laser is not giving 80W optic power. My laser was quite weak at first start, but the problem was with laser beam alignment. To fix it, I just needed to get some masking tape, screwdriver and some youtube. :)

  • @Wenturi

    • @user-gm5mh5ye2d

      +bfg2600 depth is changable. You can tune it to your need simply by changing the height of the table. Engraving depth is depending of focal length of the laser lenses (some types are available).Cutting depth also depens of focal length and power of laser. Interesting to hear that about the red lid. Though the lid hopefully would offer a little protection as the acrylic is UV absorbent (hence why the laser can cut it). I can confirm that these lasers have no interlock and also no protection for if the cooling water flow is not good. I have purchased parts to address both of these but am just being careful in the meantime.

      Jeremy BBenthem do you know much about laser etching? I'm looking to etch paper cups at high speed for personalized cups at my coffee shop.

      Is the etching speed 1000-1200mm/s ok?

      Suggestion: etch the paper sleeve that goes around the cup, not the cup itself. The sleeves can be folded flat, and you'll have a much easier time(and most likely with less expense) than finding a cylindrical laser marking system.
      Why not just use a sharpie like everyone else? It's going to get tossed when the person is done with their coffee anyhow?

      Yeah. Plus the danger of the engraving weakening the cup. Unless you want online reviews of "I left jb coulter's coffee in my cup holder while I went in the grocery store and when I got back, the interior in my Mercedes was ruined".
      Not to mention there are companies that will do custom printing on thousands of cups for much cheaper and less effort.
