I agree, lot of fluff and filler to get to the point. skip, skip, watch a few seconds, skip, skip, skip watcha few seconds. But I am curious to see it really getting used and what kind of work you can turn out with it, so I'll keep on checking back. Calibrating and workflow will be interesting. But to be fair, it's not just here, if you've noticed most of the maker channels have turned to mostly puff and filler pieces with occasional good stuff, I can imagine it's crazy difficult to keep cranking quality content that youtube wants with the tiny amount of monetization, if any.
Oh god, please take that little clear 3-way with the side tubing off the water pump outlet. That is to introduce air into the water which is great for fish, but terrible for laser cooling. That's why the water in the laser looked so bubbly. Each of those bubbles can create a hotspot and could cause the tube to fail sooner than it should. Also, when measuring dB, it's a logarithmic scale. Every 3dB *doubles* the volume you're measuring.

Here are some of my experiences: 1) buy for your laser a Water Chiller - search on ebay or amazon for CW-3000 or I´m running CW-5200 as I don´t have A/C at my shop. This thing will keep your tube at about 19-20°C which will encrease life of your tube. Btw my fish pump died after 2 days - had the same 2) Blower - if you´re going to cut plywood or acrylic (or plastic in general) I recommend you to stick to factory blower as these materials when you cut them, makes nasty paste all hose and blower, which is very tricky to remove. Better to buy new chinese one again. Cutting (and especially engraving) stinks a lot. Make sure you will be ok with your neighborhood. 3) take your time when setting cutting parametres try to use different speeds and power. Good practice is to put a piece of material under angle, make a cut and then measure best focus point (not always those 3mm) 4) measure the bend of your honeycomb mesh. Mine was bend like hell, but it´s easy to repair with hand - press from below until your satisfied. Anyway Congrats to purchase and happy cutting! Cheers from Europe

I have the same machine. I unpacked it by myself...what a pain. Took me half an hour to figure out it was screwed to the pallet through the feet. Duh. It worked great right out of the box but about a month later the psu died. I contacted the seller and they credited back my account for the cost of a new one rather than shipping one from China.I bought a 60w cloudray and it has been flawless. It's a great machine with lots of potential with some minor upgrades such as a meter and quieter fan. Play around with different focal lenses as well. I'm looking at going with a true 60w tube when this one dies but not in a hurry to kill it. Good luck with the machine.

Well... for contrast, I bought an Epilog 60w a couple years ago for $22,000... It has been fired for about 200 hours total so far, and I've had replace about $600 in components that failed (at my own expense, because Epilog's warranty is b/s). Lately, I can't seem to get a clean cut through 1/8in ply or 1/4in acrylic, and I'm being told it's because I need to replace my lens... which is $172... So, I'm thinking you've done quite well to get a functional system you can use for $2,400!
Hi there, great video. We all start somewhere, and you got it to cut first time, well done. When cutting plywood or softer timbers, the air assist should give a cleaner and non "sooty" cut, if it is getting enough air. The laser I operated just used the shop compressed air supply which was adjustable at the machine with it's own regulator. Have fun, you are only limited by your imagination!
Yeah, acrylic with no air with smoke the lens up quick, which makes the laser hold harder in the lens, which leads to your lense cracking in way quicker than you would think.
Reginaldesq It actually also does prevent fire. By adding airflow into the cut, the additional oxygen helps to quickly burn up the material from the kerf so that it doesn’t stay there to smolder. The air also cools the area around the cut. Materials only burn when they’re hot enough to vaporize so cooling prevents them from sustaining a flame.
A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness so thats a huge difference in actual loudness

I got the same exact laser from ebay a few months ago.(red and black but otherwise literally identical) It was just over 1900 delivered to my driveway, at a residence about 3 days after I paid for it. I looked on amazon, but the potential for some customer service from amazon in the event that it arrived DOA ultimately was not worth the 500 dollar premium. I have been very happy with mine so far, lightburn with the DSP add on is amazing and definitely the ONLY way to go with one of these imported lasers!!! Would I buy it again without hesitation, yes I surely would.

Word of advice on the air for the machine. Don't use that pump that comes with it, as these are barely enough and don't last over time. Best thing is to connect a real compressor and connect the power strip to control a solenoid for the air inlet to the machine. Also the water cooling could use a radiator with a fan to dissipate the heat, otherwise there will not be enough cooling for the tube. Also add De-ionized water instead of city water to increase life of the tube. The duty cycle without a heat exchanger means a short cutting time.
Take that short hose off your water pump, that is an inline aerator. Just pinch that off, you don't want air bubbles in your laser. Also, move your blower outside and get the noise out of your workspace. Even that large metal blower looks outdoor rated.
Don't know if this is mentioned but the air pump is much quieter suspended. I have my laser on a table and the air pump hangs from the table on an bungee type strap.
Thanks for the walk through! FYI when you measure the noise level of the 2 fans you measure the first one at about 1m distance, and the second one at about 0.1m. This will make a huge difference in the recorded dB level. Also mentioned but 3dB is a doubling of the noise level.

Use a temperature reader for the water and stop using laser if water reaches 25C for longer life of laser tube. I use an old office water dispenser so the water flows inside the cooling container, I found it laying in the sidewalk one morning and took it with me for future use and it turned out great for my cheap laser cutter. You can use a new one, it is not expensive.
Surprised that it does not say use DI water and heat changer. I completely agree with you on keeping the water cool, and that will not stay cool enough with just a tank.
Serious cringe when I see someone wearing sandals when doing work that has danger to exposed skin. You should not take a chance when it comes to safety. Also they should be using safety googles when activating the laser with the lid up. The exhaust fan needs the lid down to exhaust fumes and gases.
@@MyersWoodshop I would rather you live and tell us how the cutter is working for you and new projects. Kids and others mimic what they see. You would be surprised how many of these injuries occur each year. I remember a guy using a chainsaw with flip flops on and it slipped off the tree and cut into his foot. He bled out before we could we (EMS) could arrive.

I'm gonna like this cause you are new to Lasers but rolling it across the grass bulldogging it with tube in. yeh looking for failure. looking at getting my first system. I've worked for 9 years with epilog and vyteks, at work. looks like crappy power supplys on this one. I suggest installing an hour meter so you can judge time on components. also if you have any questions feel free. I've pretty much dealt with every problem with a laser system.
I don't know if you have done anything about it .. but you can get a 110 volt ac relay and plug that into those internal outlets and let that relay / contactor turn on and off a strip of outlets that are powered by the wall outlet. The internal wiring may not handle the devices ... but the power for a relay is only about 1/50 of 1 amp or about 2-3 watts and I am sure it can do that. You will get the same effect without stressing the internal wiring on the laser. (search this on Amazon - uxcell AC 110V Coil Power Relay 10A DPDT LY2NJ with PTF08A Socket Base )
The Chinese centrifugal blower registers 80db, which is "loud and annoying". When matey speaks, it also registers 80db. Loud and annoying seems about right.
After watching this video and reading all of the comments, I ALMOST bought this machine, but ended up getting the updated 80 watt laser instead. It wasn't much more. It has some upgrades. I have just pretty much got it unboxed and am in the process of getting it set up. The biggest difference is that I have to install the laser tube. It is not already in the machine. Trying to figure out how to do that without getting killed. The manual that came with the laser is entirely in Chinese and the pictures are not super helpful. I am really excited to get this up and running though. I also understand nothing about "grounding" so I need to figure that out. This one has the air and the exhaust inside the machine, so no separate parts for that other than hooking up all the tubes and hoses. (I think) I haven't gotten that far. Will try to get it tackled this weekend. Thanks for the video though. It may have been boring for some to watch, but pretty helpful for me since I'm trying to set mine up too. I did email you last week with questions since I couldn't log on to this, but never heard back.

The air pump is to stop contaminated smoke from contaminating the laser lens, which will stop it fogging up and not to stop fire. When you cut plastic and the like, the smoke can be sticky like resin.
The air assist performs a number of jobs, including keeping the lens clean(er), but it significantly improves cutting ability due to feeding fresh oxygen into the cut and clearing the cut for the laser to better ablate the material.
@@Zootalaws Yes, it does have a number of functions. Just like 3D printers, laser cutters have numerous things that can be changed, that can alter the cut. Build a closet attached to the outside of the shop and put the fan in the closet and then so it won't be that loud. Can you hook that to your PC and or put it on the network and copy your CAD Drawings to it? Can you use it to mill out gun parts and motorcycle parts? That's what I would want to do with a machine like that is make gun parts like lower receivers, trigger assemblies, upper slides and motorcycle parts like pegs, mirrors, brackets, sissy bars, seatpans, tank pieces.
I really hope you put the Extractor fan outside like it should be, build a box/leantoo/cover. That grey extractor pulls more cubic than that black one does.
@@MyersWoodshop what he's telling you is you need to utilize the original fan that came with it because it does a better job of moving air so you're not buying replacement parts all the time for your laser. Speaking from experience by having replaced $20,000 gold mirrors because of low air flow, that fan keeps the dust/smoke/debris in the air from ruining your lenses. Put the fan outside in a weatherproof box and you wont hear it if noise is your only concern.

Wow! You guys did an outstanding job, with this unboxing and review! Very thorough with explaining how to do processes and adjustments. I'm hoping that the included manual is in very precise english, and not written with synonyms, that barely make sense. A lot of foreign translated manuals are like that, and sometimes it's hard to understand what they really meant to say, and when you've dumped about 3 Grand into a product, with a high probability of destroying it, due to bad english, that kind of sucks. Anyway, thank you guys for the review! I'm seriously looking at getting this product, mostly for engraving on metals.
Wrapping your ductwork with some insulation will help to reduce the sound level. To conserve energy for heating and cooling, you could install a fresh air duct to bring outside air to the machine. You might also put the entire setup in a sort of booth to help conserve heating/cooling, and reduce sound levels.
We did this and it was a total disaster. It was a waste of money, a gigantic paperweight. We got it "running" but it wont cut anything, its like the laser is weak or something (60w). Since there is no support we've never managed to figure out "why".
You probably need to align the beam. Use pieces of thermal paper and short bursts of laser power (a few ms, there will be a button to do this even in shitty laser software) to see where the spot is. Till receipts work fine for this. For each "target" mirror, stick a piece of thermal paper over it, and adjust the mirror before it in the beam path until the laser spot hits the centre of the mirror regardless of the position of the axis. Repeat, working from the tube towards the head, until all the mirrors are aligned. The mirrors need to be extremely accurately positioned for the beams to run parallel to the axes, and they often shift slightly during shipping. This is even a problem with expensive laser cutters, but they usually come with a technician who will commission it for you. I have a crappy 40W Chinese laser bought in the early days of cheap laser cutters, when you got a lot less for your money, and it's actually very useful. Can cut up to 10mm of acrylic or plywood, though 6mm is a more sensible maximum.
I know a slightly old video - and probably already answered - but the sealant is used when you inevitably need to change the laser tube. You generally slather it over the high voltage connection on the tube to prevent arcs (which are very bad). Only 16mins in - but already looking like a solid purchase and a decently build machine. I have a similar 50w* one with the exact same controller (software stinks!) - which I afterwards upgraded to 60W tube from a local vendor.

Small tip to improve your video: don't leave any parts silent. Ambient noise is better than dead air. Or put in some elevator music (nothing obnoxious, though). Best, of course, is to think of something worthwhile or entertaining to say.
i worked at a shop for a couple of years. our laser engravers where 120w units. you will want to use the larger grey fan and mount it outside with a rain shield. the partial debris will slowly build up on the blades. that smaller fan wont be able to handle that.
I have that exact same identical laser from Ebay. How was the smell from it? A little smoky smelling? I added a 30ma meter, got a CW5200 chiller, and used the blower it came with. After doing the mirror setup and cleaning everything, it does a really good job for what it costs. Of course it comes with a 50w tube and not a 60w as advertised, but that is an easy fix. Thought I had it bad taking mine downstairs! LOL The base comes off, all the doors come off and it makes it much easier to move. I use Lightburn to drive it. One tip, don't use those outlets in the rear, they aren't very good and could lead to arcing. Also on the cooler, don't use the default settings, but run through them all and set it to 15C as the low end, 20C as the high end. Now for a fun note. This exact same laser is purchased by US companies, revamped with US parts and sold under a US brand for 4 times the price. The thing to look for is the guideways, they are high quality on these Chasers from Ebay, and the cabinet construction is very good. The tube and power supplies are consumables, so when time to replace, use a high quality one and you will have a laser that is every bit as good as one from say Boss laser and costs a quarter of the price. BTW, YES those screws are HOT! LOL Did the same thing!
The air is not designed to 'stop fire'. It /does/ keep the material cooler and thereby stopping it eventually setting alight but in the meanwhile it actually clears smoke and residue away from the laser sight to avoid blocking the laser light and also the lens fogging up with residue.
Don't pull the screw out of your tire before you have a plug kit and air compressor ready, or let the service station/tire store do it. On the serious side, thanks for the video. Well done, detailed, informative, and well edited. Thanks for sharing your experience.

For as much as people complain about the quality of Chinese products, you bring up a valid point. Also it doesn't mean you can't upgrade things with a few parts and a little know-how.
@@petermcfarland9236 The Chinese have mastered an art that the western world has chosen to ignore. They are able and prepared to make to a price point. If you want to pay little they are ready to oblige and make it cheap. You have to be prepared to put up with low cost materials, assembly, documentation and testing. Human suffering is only part of the equation and does not account for the fact that even products that are machine made are available cheaper from China. I would be happy if the western world would offer more products with a larger DIY component at a lower price so that those who do not want to pay for a 50 point check list can do without and not pay for it.
Not sure why you are calling it a knock-off. Its an X-Y carriage with a laser attached. How else are they supposed to do it? As we know, most manufactured goods are made in China because that's where the skills are. We'll have to get used to reading manuals in Chinese instead of expecting them to do the translating as well as everything else. After all, the German, French, Italian, Japanese and Korean translations take priority these days over the English ones.
Don't waste anymore $ on CO2 or even YAG's,lamp or DP lasers, get a Fiber laser with virtual perfect beam quality, order mag. shorter wavelength, ultra high wall plug efficiencies, can be 'piped' anywhere in your lab,home or factory with a tiny fiber optic. From watts to KW's Fiber Lasers are changing the world. No need to discard your current system as you can retrofit your existing laser scanner and change out the CO2 laser with your new/used Fiber laser. You'll also need to change out the delivery optics but are available everywhere.

Fix the loud exhaust fan noise by putting the fan in its own enclosure outside your shop - run the hose from your laser cutter thru your shop wall to the fan outside.
Connecting via Ethernet is better than USB. He pointed at the control pad calling it the controller... He pointed in the electronics bay and pointed at the Ruida controller calling it some other controller.

Air assist is to blow out fires (you mentioned this twice, which makes this bad video editing too!)? Dude, have you researched this at all beforehand? Even I, that haven't researched this at all, almost (I've seen perhaps between 1-3 short videos about laser cutters, and only one of them actually explained some of it), know that is not what the air assists is for! It is for blowing away smoke, so both the beam has better focus/efficiency, and not to dirtying the lens and potentially ruin it over time! There is no lack of people pointing out your faults and errors either, so won't bother to repeat some of them... You both have no idea how watercooling works either, since you manage to put in the air bubbler or what it is called on the aquarium pump, which most people who would normally buy a laser cutter would have deducted is not necessary here! The orientation of the pump is wrong too, which on some types of pumps can be bad! It is quite possible that the laser tube will last shorter than intended because of this and other error factors! If the wiring and/or sockets on the machine isn't good enough, CHANGE IT THEN! Instead you were planning to doing HALF ASSED SHIT SOLUTIONS INSTEAD, which coincidentally, might be the same amount of work too! But then you decided to use a power brick, rendering that previous portion of the video pointless; again demonstrating YOU ARE SHIT AT VIDEO EDITING! Also, how is the power brick fireproof? Are you that fucking dense? If you are wondering why I'm so hostile, is because you answered like a fucking shithead to Walter! Sure, perhaps he was a bit rude, but have you ever wondered why your video has so many dislikes, TAKE A FUCKING GUESS! My 40w laser cutter would heat up the 4 gallons of water in the home depot bucket i used after about an hour of cutting. I used a Swiftech 120mm radiator and 2 120mm fans in push/pull running at 7v off an old HP PSU laying around and it helped a LOT. I used a power strip to turn everything on/off.
This video helped us save thousands of dollars and take the plunge on buying a Chinese laser! We’re excited to try this thing out and see how it goes! Thanks for the videos, we need a lot of help 🤣
If you use an insulated exhaust tube (or enclose the existing one) it will lower the noise level. Also the shorter the tube, the less hard the fan has to work to move the air.
The inline fan is made for dust wood flakes etc sucktion .?The fan it came with had el motor on the side that avoid overheating of motor to catch fire.All the dust flakes it sucks is never in contact with the cooling of motor.There are inline fans that have been retracted do to catching fire.Just wonder
That's a heck of a lot of machine for only $2.4K, BTW when you measured the SPL of the black fan you had it a lot closer to the phone so the reading was relatively high. Doesn't look like it moves nearly as much air.

Here are some of my experiences: 1) buy for your laser a Water Chiller - search on ebay or amazon for CW-3000 or I´m running CW-5200 as I don´t have A/C at my shop. This thing will keep your tube at about 19-20°C which will encrease life of your tube. Btw my fish pump died after 2 days - had the same 2) Blower - if you´re going to cut plywood or acrylic (or plastic in general) I recommend you to stick to factory blower as these materials when you cut them, makes nasty paste all hose and blower, which is very tricky to remove. Better to buy new chinese one again. Cutting (and especially engraving) stinks a lot. Make sure you will be ok with your neighborhood. 3) take your time when setting cutting parametres try to use different speeds and power. Good practice is to put a piece of material under angle, make a cut and then measure best focus point (not always those 3mm) 4) measure the bend of your honeycomb mesh. Mine was bend like hell, but it´s easy to repair with hand - press from below until your satisfied. Anyway Congrats to purchase and happy cutting! Cheers from Europe

I have the same machine. I unpacked it by myself...what a pain. Took me half an hour to figure out it was screwed to the pallet through the feet. Duh. It worked great right out of the box but about a month later the psu died. I contacted the seller and they credited back my account for the cost of a new one rather than shipping one from China.I bought a 60w cloudray and it has been flawless. It's a great machine with lots of potential with some minor upgrades such as a meter and quieter fan. Play around with different focal lenses as well. I'm looking at going with a true 60w tube when this one dies but not in a hurry to kill it. Good luck with the machine.

Well... for contrast, I bought an Epilog 60w a couple years ago for $22,000... It has been fired for about 200 hours total so far, and I've had replace about $600 in components that failed (at my own expense, because Epilog's warranty is b/s). Lately, I can't seem to get a clean cut through 1/8in ply or 1/4in acrylic, and I'm being told it's because I need to replace my lens... which is $172... So, I'm thinking you've done quite well to get a functional system you can use for $2,400!

Hi there, great video. We all start somewhere, and you got it to cut first time, well done. When cutting plywood or softer timbers, the air assist should give a cleaner and non "sooty" cut, if it is getting enough air. The laser I operated just used the shop compressed air supply which was adjustable at the machine with it's own regulator. Have fun, you are only limited by your imagination!

Yeah, acrylic with no air with smoke the lens up quick, which makes the laser hold harder in the lens, which leads to your lense cracking in way quicker than you would think.

Reginaldesq It actually also does prevent fire. By adding airflow into the cut, the additional oxygen helps to quickly burn up the material from the kerf so that it doesn’t stay there to smolder. The air also cools the area around the cut. Materials only burn when they’re hot enough to vaporize so cooling prevents them from sustaining a flame.
A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness so thats a huge difference in actual loudness
Only a small set of people can notice a difference of +/- 3 dB in practice.

I got the same exact laser from ebay a few months ago.(red and black but otherwise literally identical) It was just over 1900 delivered to my driveway, at a residence about 3 days after I paid for it. I looked on amazon, but the potential for some customer service from amazon in the event that it arrived DOA ultimately was not worth the 500 dollar premium. I have been very happy with mine so far, lightburn with the DSP add on is amazing and definitely the ONLY way to go with one of these imported lasers!!! Would I buy it again without hesitation, yes I surely would.

Word of advice on the air for the machine. Don't use that pump that comes with it, as these are barely enough and don't last over time. Best thing is to connect a real compressor and connect the power strip to control a solenoid for the air inlet to the machine. Also the water cooling could use a radiator with a fan to dissipate the heat, otherwise there will not be enough cooling for the tube. Also add De-ionized water instead of city water to increase life of the tube. The duty cycle without a heat exchanger means a short cutting time.

Take that short hose off your water pump, that is an inline aerator. Just pinch that off, you don't want air bubbles in your laser. Also, move your blower outside and get the noise out of your workspace. Even that large metal blower looks outdoor rated.

Don't know if this is mentioned but the air pump is much quieter suspended. I have my laser on a table and the air pump hangs from the table on an bungee type strap.

FYI when you measure the noise level of the 2 fans you measure the first one at about 1m distance, and the second one at about 0.1m. This will make a huge difference in the recorded dB level. Also mentioned but 3dB is a doubling of the noise level.

Use a temperature reader for the water and stop using laser if water reaches 25C for longer life of laser tube. I use an old office water dispenser so the water flows inside the cooling container, I found it laying in the sidewalk one morning and took it with me for future use and it turned out great for my cheap laser cutter. You can use a new one, it is not expensive.
Surprised that it does not say use DI water and heat changer. I completely agree with you on keeping the water cool, and that will not stay cool enough with just a tank.
Serious cringe when I see someone wearing sandals when doing work that has danger to exposed skin. You should not take a chance when it comes to safety. Also they should be using safety googles when activating the laser with the lid up. The exhaust fan needs the lid down to exhaust fumes and gases.

You would be surprised how many of these injuries occur each year. I remember a guy using a chainsaw with flip flops on and it slipped off the tree and cut into his foot. He bled out before we could we (EMS) could arrive.

Silicone glue is used when reconnecting the high voltage on the tube under that stub piece of Hose.
Big difference between 70 and 80 dbA. Sounds level doubles for each increment of 3 dbA. So more the 10 times the sound level!

I've worked for 9 years with epilog and vyteks, at work. looks like crappy power supplys on this one. I suggest installing an hour meter so you can judge time on components. also if you have any questions feel free. I've pretty much dealt with every problem with a laser system.

I don't know if you have done anything about it .. but you can get a 110 volt ac relay and plug that into those internal outlets and let that relay / contactor turn on and off a strip of outlets that are powered by the wall outlet. The internal wiring may not handle the devices ... but the power for a relay is only about 1/50 of 1 amp or about 2-3 watts and I am sure it can do that. You will get the same effect without stressing the internal wiring on the laser. (search this on Amazon - uxcell AC 110V Coil Power Relay 10A DPDT LY2NJ with PTF08A Socket Base )
When measuring the soundpressure, you need to respect 1 meter distance between the DUT and the measuring device.

Surely the fume extractor is far more powerful than is necessary? I purchased a bathroom extractor fan and hose, which is much quieter.
The Chinese centrifugal blower registers 80db, which is "loud and annoying". When matey speaks, it also registers 80db.

After watching this video and reading all of the comments, I ALMOST bought this machine, but ended up getting the updated 80 watt laser instead. It wasn't much more. It has some upgrades. I have just pretty much got it unboxed and am in the process of getting it set up. The biggest difference is that I have to install the laser tube. It is not already in the machine. Trying to figure out how to do that without getting killed. The manual that came with the laser is entirely in Chinese and the pictures are not super helpful. I am really excited to get this up and running though. I also understand nothing about "grounding" so I need to figure that out. This one has the air and the exhaust inside the machine, so no separate parts for that other than hooking up all the tubes and hoses. (I think) I haven't gotten that far. Will try to get it tackled this weekend. Thanks for the video though. It may have been boring for some to watch, but pretty helpful for me since I'm trying to set mine up too. I did email you last week with questions since I couldn't log on to this, but never heard back.

The air pump is to stop contaminated smoke from contaminating the laser lens, which will stop it fogging up and not to stop fire. When you cut plastic and the like, the smoke can be sticky like resin.
The air assist performs a number of jobs, including keeping the lens clean(er), but it significantly improves cutting ability due to feeding fresh oxygen into the cut and clearing the cut for the laser to better ablate the material.
@@Zootalaws Yes, it does have a number of functions. Just like 3D printers, laser cutters have numerous things that can be changed, that can alter the cut. Build a closet attached to the outside of the shop and put the fan in the closet and then so it won't be that loud. Can you hook that to your PC and or put it on the network and copy your CAD Drawings to it? Can you use it to mill out gun parts and motorcycle parts? That's what I would want to do with a machine like that is make gun parts like lower receivers, trigger assemblies, upper slides and motorcycle parts like pegs, mirrors, brackets, sissy bars, seatpans, tank pieces.

@@MyersWoodshop what he's telling you is you need to utilize the original fan that came with it because it does a better job of moving air so you're not buying replacement parts all the time for your laser. Speaking from experience by having replaced $20,000 gold mirrors because of low air flow, that fan keeps the dust/smoke/debris in the air from ruining your lenses. Put the fan outside in a weatherproof box and you wont hear it if noise is your only concern.

Wow! You guys did an outstanding job, with this unboxing and review! Very thorough with explaining how to do processes and adjustments. I'm hoping that the included manual is in very precise english, and not written with synonyms, that barely make sense. A lot of foreign translated manuals are like that, and sometimes it's hard to understand what they really meant to say, and when you've dumped about 3 Grand into a product, with a high probability of destroying it, due to bad english, that kind of sucks. Anyway, thank you guys for the review! I'm seriously looking at getting this product, mostly for engraving on metals.

Wrapping your ductwork with some insulation will help to reduce the sound level. To conserve energy for heating and cooling, you could install a fresh air duct to bring outside air to the machine. You might also put the entire setup in a sort of booth to help conserve heating/cooling, and reduce sound levels.

We did this and it was a total disaster. It was a waste of money, a gigantic paperweight. We got it "running" but it wont cut anything, its like the laser is weak or something (60w). Since there is no support we've never managed to figure out "why".
You probably need to align the beam. Use pieces of thermal paper and short bursts of laser power (a few ms, there will be a button to do this even in shitty laser software) to see where the spot is. Till receipts work fine for this. For each "target" mirror, stick a piece of thermal paper over it, and adjust the mirror before it in the beam path until the laser spot hits the centre of the mirror regardless of the position of the axis. Repeat, working from the tube towards the head, until all the mirrors are aligned. The mirrors need to be extremely accurately positioned for the beams to run parallel to the axes, and they often shift slightly during shipping.
This is even a problem with expensive laser cutters, but they usually come with a technician who will commission it for you.
I have a crappy 40W Chinese laser bought in the early days of cheap laser cutters, when you got a lot less for your money, and it's actually very useful. Can cut up to 10mm of acrylic or plywood, though 6mm is a more sensible maximum.
and this is EXACTLY why i choose to get it from amazon. One call and it's back on its way with no loss on my end.

I know a slightly old video - and probably already answered - but the sealant is used when you inevitably need to change the laser tube. You generally slather it over the high voltage connection on the tube to prevent arcs (which are very bad).
Only 16mins in - but already looking like a solid purchase and a decently build machine. I have a similar 50w* one with the exact same controller (software stinks!) - which I afterwards upgraded to 60W tube from a local vendor.
It's been a great purchase.

i worked at a shop for a couple of years. our laser engravers where 120w units. you will want to use the larger grey fan and mount it outside with a rain shield. the partial debris will slowly build up on the blades. that smaller fan wont be able to handle that.
if that happens, i'll just buy a new one. its worth it to keep it quiet. My neighbors are really close and i dont want to be a douche.
I have that exact same identical laser from Ebay. How was the smell from it? A little smoky smelling? I added a 30ma meter, got a CW5200 chiller, and used the blower it came with. After doing the mirror setup and cleaning everything, it does a really good job for what it costs. Of course it comes with a 50w tube and not a 60w as advertised, but that is an easy fix.
Thought I had it bad taking mine downstairs! LOL The base comes off, all the doors come off and it makes it much easier to move. I use Lightburn to drive it. One tip, don't use those outlets in the rear, they aren't very good and could lead to arcing. Also on the cooler, don't use the default settings, but run through them all and set it to 15C as the low end, 20C as the high end.
Now for a fun note. This exact same laser is purchased by US companies, revamped with US parts and sold under a US brand for 4 times the price. The thing to look for is the guideways, they are high quality on these Chasers from Ebay, and the cabinet construction is very good. The tube and power supplies are consumables, so when time to replace, use a high quality one and you will have a laser that is every bit as good as one from say Boss laser and costs a quarter of the price.
BTW, YES those screws are HOT! LOL Did the same thing!
lol. we had the same experience! mine actually has a 60 power supply. yep, american uses a lot of the Chinese components.
The air is not designed to 'stop fire'.
It /does/ keep the material cooler and thereby stopping it eventually setting alight but in the meanwhile it actually clears smoke and residue away from the laser sight to avoid blocking the laser light and also the lens fogging up with residue.

For as much as people complain about the quality of Chinese products, you bring up a valid point. Also it doesn't mean you can't upgrade things with a few parts and a little know-how.

@@petermcfarland9236 The Chinese have mastered an art that the western world has chosen to ignore. They are able and prepared to make to a price point. If you want to pay little they are ready to oblige and make it cheap. You have to be prepared to put up with low cost materials, assembly, documentation and testing. Human suffering is only part of the equation and does not account for the fact that even products that are machine made are available cheaper from China. I would be happy if the western world would offer more products with a larger DIY component at a lower price so that those who do not want to pay for a 50 point check list can do without and not pay for it.

Not sure why you are calling it a knock-off. Its an X-Y carriage with a laser attached. How else are they supposed to do it? As we know, most manufactured goods are made in China because that's where the skills are. We'll have to get used to reading manuals in Chinese instead of expecting them to do the translating as well as everything else. After all, the German, French, Italian, Japanese and Korean translations take priority these days over the English ones.
Don't waste anymore $ on CO2 or even YAG's,lamp or DP lasers, get a Fiber laser with virtual perfect beam quality, order mag. shorter wavelength, ultra high wall plug efficiencies, can be 'piped' anywhere in your lab,home or factory with a tiny fiber optic. From watts to KW's Fiber Lasers are changing the world. No need to discard your current system as you can retrofit your existing laser scanner and change out the CO2 laser with your new/used Fiber laser. You'll also need to change out the delivery optics but are available everywhere.

Probably over 90% of what China builds are knock off’s or copies of technology stolen from the west or forfeited by companies to be able to have their items built in China. The reason everything comes out of China is because of the cheap labor force it has nothing to do with their innovation. You think Americans can afford to pay for a Union built Laser engraver ? Out of China $2000 out of a union plant $20,000 and even if not a union plant your still looking at $15 an hour employees to their .20 and hour.
As for them writing manuals for other countries and not ours BS I have relatives in Germany that bitch about China good as much as anyone else. The US is the largest purchaser of China goods by a long shot unfortunately that is not going to chance at least not in the near future.

Fix the loud exhaust fan noise by putting the fan in its own enclosure outside your shop - run the hose from your laser cutter thru your shop wall to the fan outside.

1) this is our first laser. Can you believe they didn’t teach us the names of laser parts in my MBA classes?! How dare they!
2) a very fast and simple google search will show you burnt up units because of the lack of Chines quality control.

@@MyersWoodshop Walter Hynson probably has several valid points, if not all valid. You guys are talking out of your ass almost half the time! Masking tape you say is electrical tape; seriously? Air assist is to blow out fires (you mentioned this twice, which makes this bad video editing too!)? Dude, have you researched this at all beforehand? Even I, that haven't researched this at all, almost (I've seen perhaps between 1-3 short videos about laser cutters, and only one of them actually explained some of it), know that is not what the air assists is for! It is for blowing away smoke, so both the beam has better focus/efficiency, and not to dirtying the lens and potentially ruin it over time! There is no lack of people pointing out your faults and errors either, so won't bother to repeat some of them...
You both have no idea how watercooling works either, since you manage to put in the air bubbler or what it is called on the aquarium pump, which most people who would normally buy a laser cutter would have deducted is not necessary here! The orientation of the pump is wrong too, which on some types of pumps can be bad! It is quite possible that the laser tube will last shorter than intended because of this and other error factors!
If the wiring and/or sockets on the machine isn't good enough, CHANGE IT THEN! Instead you were planning to doing HALF ASSED SHIT SOLUTIONS INSTEAD, which coincidentally, might be the same amount of work too! But then you decided to use a power brick, rendering that previous portion of the video pointless; again demonstrating YOU ARE SHIT AT VIDEO EDITING! Also, how is the power brick fireproof? Are you that fucking dense?

My 40w laser cutter would heat up the 4 gallons of water in the home depot bucket i used after about an hour of cutting. I used a Swiftech 120mm radiator and 2 120mm fans in push/pull running at 7v off an old HP PSU laying around and it helped a LOT. I used a power strip to turn everything on/off.
A week after this video we bought the 5200 chiller. Yep, we have it all on a power strip

Wipe the "goop" from the rails, it will only attract dust which will kill your linear bearings. The grease was probably put there for shipping.
If you use an insulated exhaust tube (or enclose the existing one) it will lower the noise level. Also the shorter the tube, the less hard the fan has to work to move the air.

The inline fan is made for dust wood flakes etc sucktion .?The fan it came with had el motor on the side that avoid overheating of motor to catch fire.All the dust flakes it sucks is never in contact with the cooling of motor.There are inline fans that have been retracted do to catching fire.Just wonder
Agree. That inline fan is very light duty, wouldn't use for hot exhaust or sparks. The only good thing about it is, it's smooth quiet.
That's a heck of a lot of machine for only $2.4K, BTW when you measured the SPL of the black fan you had it a lot closer to the phone so the reading was relatively high. Doesn't look like it moves nearly as much air.
The doors in the side are so you can put longer material in it.
