The English couple were so sweet. They wore their hearts on their sleeves. Hope they are in their own home now. Thanks so much for the upload. Love this show.
I've never seen such an adorable couple as the young pair here. A veritable Hugh Grant look-alike was he (with a longer chin). I hope they get the cozy and charming house they deserve.
Looking for a house based on accommodating a gigantic corner sofa is bonkers! Especially when the wish list is already rather long. I am glad the international couple was able to see the light about that. I didn't think Lauren would be able to adjust her expectations but she surprised me. She obviously would have been much happier in the modern home but she realized her husband would never feel at home there. I hope it worked out for them.
Good episode it made me sad that the young couple lost out on their home, she looked so sad. Happy to see the other couple move forward. As well as the young lady from Chicago realizing you are not going to get the space you are used to.
I have to say not all Americans live in Large Homes. Personally I live in a Mobile Home ,about 700 sg. ft. rectangle. I hate it, but Houses are expensive, no matter the size. But it seems for almost 600,00lbs you should be able to get close to what you want and not be Jugded for it. But I absolutely absolutely Love English Cottages. ❤
My beloved sofa, a two-seater, wasn’t going to fit in the front door of my new apartment. I shed a tear or two, left it to the next owners of my house, and bought a new one. It’s a convertible, too.
It's such a shame about Bethan and Richard. In their imagination they had already moved into the little house they so loved. If they had never seen it they probably would have been very happy with the third house. However even if it had still been available it probably felt like a consolation prize. In canada there is no way to go back on a sale once the deal is done. I am aware of two instances where sellers changed their minds once the buyers offer was accepted, but this wasn't possible.
All I’m going to say is English houses are nothing like American ones. There is much less room. When a person moves to another country they must integrate… just like I did when I moved to America.
@@thehungrygoldfish who said UK doesnt have driers lol. Everyone has a washer drier. Plus in UK you have attics for storage. Dont really have the weather for ac. Lots of houses have garages. But the equivalent is like trying to buy in or near new york city.
My Uncle's suburban Chicago 70s condo had 3 floors with a basement kitchen. Poor thing. Did she grow up in Buffalo Grove, St Charles, or (sounds like) Glencoe or Winnetka? The 70s house was a GREAT family home.
I love how K was giving the American a hard time about how the homes in the uk and how they aren’t of the ridiculous proportions as she’s used to yet all the while when k ends her work day she goes home to house of those ridiculous proportions. I realize it wasn’t put in those exact words but it’s definitely what was implied. How ironic.
To the American girl in the episode, please please don’t start talking with a British accent down the line. I remember Megan Markel started doing that and I thought it was hilarious but no bueno. You should be proud of your American heritage just as much as Kirstie is of her English. Had I been in her shoes, I would have requested a change of host. I’d take Phil Spencer over K any day of the week. He has the better selling style. For someone who is “ helping “ guide my home purchase, snide comments (and these are just the ones that made the episode) would lead me to distrust your motives and make me question whether or not I was being pointed the right direction.
I had to give up my 24-yea-old couch that I had brought from Chicago to Ukraine because the doors in my new apartment were 75cm rather than 80. Oh well... It was a lovely comfy couch, but after all only a couch. I bought another one.
The laws and systems in real estate UK would scramble your brain. Nothing like Canada. They can have a deal fall through on the day of closing because someone "breaks the chain". Meaning the people who were supposed to buy their place backed out. Everyone involved in the "chain" deal falls apart. This happens all the time there. Don't try to understand it, terribly outdated and in need of change.
I love all the Location, Location, Location shows. It's such a treat to nestle down to watch a few episodes. Can someone explain why handsome Phil shows four houses weekly and pretty Kristie only gets to show three homes each episode?
No specific reason but it is how most of the episodes are formatted. Phil, Kirstie, Phil, Kirstie, Phil, Kirstie, Phil. There are exceptions, of course. Sometimes they do three each. Sometimes they do four each. They might reverse it and have Kirstie show four and Phil show three. They might show an extra house because two of the houses are near each other. They’ve been a few times where Kirstie is shown first. It just depends.
That house in Shefford - WALL PAPER NIGHTMARE!!!! I'd say, 'Someone wake me up!" but then I'd have to open my eyes and look at that WALL PAPER! It's a shame someone built such a tacky, unworkable house in such a lovely location. That dining-room/ entrance way with the wire staircase. Just... ugly.
That 4th house that Phil showed that young couple. The kitchen would be a real detriment to me. I hate a kitchen in a line. I have one in this apartment and I hate it. Miserable when making a large meal..

I hate that the Americans that end up on this show have a tendency to be the "worst" of the US. They act like they'd get so much in the US; the reality is that the real estate market is just as "challenging" and full of compromise as in the UK. And yes, a major difference often is that UK homes have only one bathroom (or a bath room and a W/C, which is really not a normal thing in the US) on the ground floor, often off the kitchen. But if you've got a pot to p*ss in, who cares where it's located. I'm an American who has lived in the UK, so I have done both real estate markets. Life is always compromise unless you're wealthy (and you probably would find that wealthy people have to make compromises in life, too).
It seems these 2 couples have been given the worst options I have ever seen - and I think I have seen every episode made over the decades . It feels the producers have a bit over staged. Both couples are among my favorites but the houses seem unusually bleak.
To be fair, 300k is low for a house in the home counties, even nearly ten years ago. I don’t even think you can get a house in the home counties for less than 300k now. Also, keep in mind their two main criteria was location and character. That means old and small. With the other couple, while 500k is a healthy budget, the locations they were looking in are expensive.
When Phil has finalized a deal on the phone he always says - "Understood...I'll pass that information on..." Then, he tells the buyer/s they've got the house. Such a drama queen.
Wait, why were you even watching to begin with? Especially given what the budgets and locations were? You wanted to see a castle for less than 300k less than an hour from London? What’s wrong with you? lol
@thehungrygoldfish I watch similar programmes because I enjoy it. In this episode, the interiors were particularly grim. I know we can all redo properties. I just feel sorry for young people renting or buying houses these days.
@thehungrygoldfish I know. It was the interiors that were awful - layout and/or the style of decoration, etc. I know most people redecorate when they move in, but it will be pretty costly for the buyer to do so. I feel sorry for young ones having to pay high prices for accommodation these days. In 1950, my aunt and her husband bought a country cottage for £60. They used potato sacks for curtains. Not that they needed to in the Scottish Highlands. They transformed it and extended it throughout the years to a high standard. In 1990, it was valued at £250,000. INSANE. Just because people wanted to move to the country. Anyway, I shared my point of view.
