Make sure to REPLACE the timing belt, hydraulic tensioner, and water pump every 60,000miles. Especially the timing belt because the 2.0 engine in the Neon is an interference engine so if the timing belt fails the pistons will slam into the valves therefore destroying the engine. Please Please don’t put that off because it gets extremely expensive if the timing belt fails or the water pump seizes up
Computer Nostalgia That was the first thing I did! The people I bought it from said they replaced the timing belt a while ago, but I didn’t trust that so I made sure that was one of the first things I did! I love my little neon! Any other things to look out for? I need to get a new a/c compressor too cause it’s leaking.
Gwenyth Lindholm great! Those are the only main issues with the Neons. Well actually the automatic transmission was known for failing around 200,000miles and the head gasket failure is common as well. Yeah I love my 1999 Plymouth Neon Expresso. Also I know this is an odd question, but Washington state or Washington, MO? The reason I ask is because here in Missouri it’s nearly impossible to get your hands on a Neon. I was searching for 6 months until I finally found one that someone didn’t take to put in their neon “collection” They are literally hoarders
Gwenyth Lindholm Even though the collectors hoard them all. The cool thing is that they are being saved! It’s really sad going to the junkyard seeing these things because they are always beat to hell.
Computer Nostalgia I got mine in Seattle, washington! An old lady had it and it was literally like brand new, with the original stickers, floor mats about everything! People hoard them around here too! A perfect beginner car!
@@banquetdiet928 A few months ago I bought a super clean garage kept and reliable neon from an elderly couple for $400. She bought a new car as a retirement present. Right before I shook her hand for the deal she said “please take good care of her” I actually have been since it’s so clean. I’d legit feel bad damaging it
Just came across your videos, i have a 1997 Dodge Neon in the EXACT same color, but automatic from washington!

Mine is a 1996 and this exact color. Seeing this makes me so sad. I know it happened a while ago but I am still sorry for your car.
Just found this channel. Hope you find a new neon . Ore did i miss something.
Plenty of other Neons out there, although for me, Gen 1 parts are getting hard to come by. Gen 2's are winding up in the junkyard now.
Cheap Smack Garage Yeah the first gens are still out there, but the Neon hoarders don’t sell them cheap
@@computernostalgia6293 i got my 1st gen for 850 bucks, managed to talk the dude down from 1200
