Hi Crawford, you need to secure the valve through the hole in the brass tab with a bolt. This prevents the valve assembly from rotating. From memory it’s an M6 and drill through the housing and secure with a nylock nut.
I’ve just fitted the same troughs, On the ball cock there is a tab I fastened with a screw to the trough itself so is always held in the right place, when you rotate the trough the pipe spins instead. Also means when it’s not in use you can leave the trough upside down and it stays empty 👍
Enjoy your lager , the stout is out of this world , you need to sell some of your merchandise in the shop , I was there last Saturday with my partner and had a great meal and visit 👍
We are farmers, born of earth, Shaping this land, knowing its worth. With hands that sow, and hearts that care, We’ve nurtured life, and fed the air. The fields we plow, the seeds we plant, Our sweat, our toil, our steady chant. Through storm and drought, we've held our ground, A bond with soil that's deep, profound. For generations, we’ve tilled and reaped, A legacy we’ve sworn to keep. Our roots run deep, our hearts entwined, With every furrow, every vine. So why, then, would we let it fade, This gift of land, this promise made? Why would we stand, and turn away, As what we love begins to sway? The earth is ours, the land, our pride, A bond we’ll never cast aside. Yet greed encroaches, stealing fast, What we’ve built, what we’ve amassed. But still we rise, with voices strong, To fight for what has been so long. For we are farmers, and this is ours- The land that flourishes, the land with power. We will not let this dream decay, We’ll stand and fight, come what may. For we are farmers, bold and free, And this land will always belong to we.
Weld two guid bars onto the top plate, they would be in a vertical orientation and hold the float in alignment like a pair of chopsticks holding a cube of roast pork….mmmm….yummy
Could put a right angle brass fitting in and a small section of brass pipe to drop the plastic to brass connection down a bit to prevent that part from moving. Also pin the valve block to the side all of the trough once you have it in position to prevent it from spinning out of alignment from the trough itself when it moves.
You could consider installing an Aqua Leak system. It detects leaks by amount of waterflow or time flowing. We have it installed in our horsebarn with individual drinkers. Works great! Before we had it it occured that a horse broke a coupler and 5m3 of water was in the boxes and even into our indoor riding arena. After installing, the valve shuts of after 300liters or 15min of continious flow (adjustable for your needs). And it sends a warming text before shutting of too. Money well spend 👍
It looks like the galvanised is the axis for the tilting operation. It looks like it should be longer to provide an axel for the trough to spin on. The ball valve would then be locked on to that fitting with the brass jam nut. A 1/2" BSP barrel coupling would be ideal. You may have to increase the hole in the trough to accommodate the fitting. Hope this helps. Willing to pop in & help you out.
There is an axel for the trough to spin on, maybe just cant see it in the video. Its not the spin operation that causes the issues its just the inability to tighten the whole thing very solid
Hi Crawford we used hydraulic tractor hose fitting and pipe then fit a joint further down to plastic with a straight fitting. Less likely for them to undo.
Hi Crawford brass to plastic is a problem, one which I have had many times, so have changed my regime. Would suggest changing the plastic right angle fitting to a brass right angle. This then allows for a tight-fitting from ballcock (brass thread to brass ) to the right angle to blue plastic pipe. This will also give you additional space between the blue pipe and the trough.
It seems that the pressure of the water hitting the side/back is causing the float to twist. Maybe turn the faucet to fill facing down, or up like a water fountain. 🤷🏻♀️
I’d guess the troughs need a re-engineering. The float mechanism maybe needs to pivot when tipped so stays level all the time. Have you seen the new TM 280S?
We have a Merlo 35.7 on our Dairy farm and replace them every 3000hrs. This newest 1 is constantly having electric or hydrolic problems. (Nearly set fire next to 20ton of fert, because water had leeked through roof and shorted wireing loom under cab) Lovley machine to drive but not nice from an owners point of view. we'll be looking for something else next time.
Them troughs will always give trouble. The ball cocks are a disaster, every drinking bowl I have them in give trouble. If I was building my shed again I would build a two foot wall along the outside wall of the shed and make a low tank of it, pipe in the eave shoots. Make a few holes in the wall for drinking points. Having a trough inside a shed is a disaster when they leak, The best system that I've seen is on Farming at La Forge channel, none of his troughs in his sheds have a ballcock, the are regulated from the level of a tank in his insulated pump house. Great in cold weather.
Plastic fittings a great when they are not being moved about or shaken as the cows are doing. Get a proper plumber in to pipe it up galvanised steel pipe and fixed with saddle’s from the plastic at ground level to the float valve. Please don’t use a bodge up or you will end up with the same issue again. I love watching yours and other farmers videos but it does make scratch my head when I see some of the plumbing 🤦♂️ Another great video
Screw or fix 2 pieces of steel angle or metal stud to the left hand plate. As long as it extends past the float the float will run up the angle like a guide and won't be able to turn. The angle will keep it aligned. Few minutes work
For higher pressure you could make a buffer tank. And a pressure pump. But don’t think that’s the answer for the flooding. And you have to keep more things frost free. It’s that new. I would contact the supplier. Doesn’t help you now mind. Good luck.
is it just that one. look at the other ones to see if put on any different. also at 7.39 so one spoke about extending it but from where pipe attachés could you not put metal water pip through and then attach. sorry making comment as i watch through your video. could you noy put draine pipe round the post then concrete inside the pipe. from norwich, norfolk
We have something here in the US called lock tight. Liquid thread coating. It works well! Do you have anything like it there? One kind is permanent and one is removable.
I think you need to go to the company who supplied them. Currently they aren’t fit for purpose. Could be worse if they go under high pressure from the borehole.
Non farmer , but do estate maintenance as a job . Also spend a lot of time on friends farm fixing everything they break 🤣 and pest control on others too.
The float and it’s brass fitting surely should be secured to the plate where you showed us the wee collar…to stop it moving and being able to spin and thus flooding your shed! Looks like a poor design.
Once upon a time, I lived on a farm, Where fields were wide and the air was warm, I thought those days would last forever, A place of peace, a life untethered. The barn stood tall, the sun would rise, Golden light beneath open skies. I thought this would be my fate, That this was all I’d ever await. But time has wings, and soon it flew, The farm was gone, the dream, too. I search for hope, but deep inside, I know some things cannot be denied. The past has left, its echoes fade, And in its place, a quiet shade. I long for change, but truth I see, It’s gone, and it’s not meant to be. I’ll carry on, though it feels strange, With memories of the farm, and hope for change. But deep within, I know it’s true, Some dreams fade, and never renew.

Hi try a round float as the square float could be twisting because the float is trying to find the least surface area. Love your channel suzy

👌🏽 legend, hope it keeps you warm this winter

Good idea
The float would likely get jammed against the bars.
Sounds right on 👍🏼

You need a grab bucket to clean out the passages. Leave gate ladys office in a mess for the crack.😂😂
Was a beautiful 17 C in Houston, Texas today - just starting to get a wee bit chilly here
Hi Crawford! How about putting a brass 90 and a straight connect to the blue pipe so you can tighten up better through the hinge
Love what you do don't let anything stop you passion it stopped my life from government and family carry on and keep farming ❤

Looked back the video, can't quite see exactly the solution but willing to pop in & look. passing the door sunday pm.
Hi Crawford, you can buy tread paste that sets like glue , that would stop the twisting and seal the treads

Born into farming currently don't farm but I wish I could.

Kilcunda Victoria Australia 18 degrees and showers all day. Now 10-30 pm. Enjoy watching different way farming than I do cya
Non farmer but farmers daughter, hubby worked on a farm when he was younger now a lorry driver

Have you seen the new TM 280S?
Enjoy the farming life from the 'outside'.... (Plumber for 46 years).
Farmer. How do you find the straw bales out chalet compared to the claas
Replace the plastic 90 fitting with a steel/gal 90 degree fitting. Them put a straight plastic joiner
Do they not make a swivel fitting for them. The water troughs I’ve used have it
Try a spring or serrated washer in front of the brass lock nut

I'm watching from Perth western Australia it's 7pm Saturday evening 28degrees
Surely can still get in the food hall with your beer and stout ?
How about making 2 brackets ,one either side of the blue float so when it goes up and down the float cannot twist about
Try a round ball the pressure should give it a more even rise than a square block.
Them troughs will always give trouble. The ball cocks are a disaster, every drinking bowl I have them in give trouble.

A magnet underneath and two bolts up right. To stop it turning
The workshop that starts as a few spanner’s and ends up as your main workshop as it’s closer 🤔
Flat aluminium bar folded into a u shape and pop rivet to removable lid

Locking paste in the threads from the brass to plastic?
Your fil pipe seems to at a slight angle would put pressure joint
its because the float is square ,soon as it turns a bit the pressure goes all on one side and turns it round , a round float would solve it
Couldn’t you make a bracket to hold the ball valve and fix to the back plate
What’s your dogs called 😊
Check the one's in at ABP in Perth Crawford they look similar but they have issues all the time with some of them.
Put a short spacer between the galvanised pipe and the nut so it's going tight to something that doesn't rotate
2nd brass nut as a lock nut.
Out a 1000 L buffer tank in with a pump and pressure vessel
is it just that one. look at the other ones to see if put on any different. also at 7.39 so one spoke about extending it but from where pipe attachés could you not put metal water pip through and then attach. sorry making comment as i watch through your video. could you noy put draine pipe round the post then concrete inside the pipe.

Tom Pemberton has troughs that empty through the bottom he doesn't seem to have the same problem
Had 2 cases off first batch off beer. Not tried Stout yet
Also those small ballcocks are hopeless with higher pressure so don't think an increase in pressure would be any better.
Was 26 overnight in east kimberly in aus
Tighten lock nut against end of trough
Use loctite 577 thread sealer instead of PTFE, or make a bracket and fix it with a self tapper into the end of the trough.
I am a sheep farmer in scotland
Shorten the brass fitting so the locking nut is tight against the trough and hopefully that will stop it slacking so much
Put a brass elbow into the tank
Could you not tek two bits of angle plates each side of the blue float stopping it turning
Thread lock. Locktigh make a range of prods to seal it
Would around ball float help
We have something here in the US called lock tight. Liquid thread coating. It works well! Do you have anything like it there? One kind is permanent and one is removable.
Could you weld a rod up each side of the float so it can't twist?
Mate, call a local plumber. He will sort it out.

There seems to be a hole in the brass fitting on the trough side, can’t you just screw that into the housing?
I'd try the simplest thing first, bit of threadlock on the threads and maybe a second lock nut.
Would a ball shaped float be better so it doesn’t twist
Not connected.
