And in Carnival of Junk, he makes fun of Steele's age, when Steele tries to think of what he did as a child, Elvis responds with "hunting for dinosaurs," which I thought was hilarious. I believe the animation studio they got to animate Series 5 was perfect, as HiT could of simply animated it themselves under their animation studio, Hot Animation. HiT actually only owned 50% of Fireman Sam at the time, with S4C owning the other 50%, which stayed until 2007, when HiT gained full rights to the show.
Something you should probably know is that when Gullane purchased Sam in 2001, they were the ones who commissioned S5 with Siriol. By the time HIT purchased Gullane a year later, S5 was already well in production. So even if HIT wanted to use HOT Animation for S5, they couldn’t because Siriol was already deep into production.
I actually found out that the production team who worked on season 5 of Fireman Sam actually were considering trying to make a revival of Joshua Jones which would have had the same animation sold as season 5 of Fireman Sam but this never went into formation
To be fair, whilst Series 5 did have it's flaws, it at least tried to stay faithful to the original And personallly I don't really mind the Bob the Builder style mouth and the Blue uniforms The Fire Service wore darker blue uniforms in some annual stories I think But I think we can all agree that the original series and Season 5 are both miles above the CGI series (Despite the fact that I find the CGI series, Meh)
I understand your copyright concerns, but I honestly find the low-pitched audio track funny, especially with the voices. They remind me of two bass-sounding actors: Thurl Ravenscroft (voice of Tony the Tiger) and Brad Garrett (a.k.a. Robert Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond). Imagine Ravenscroft as Fireman Sam, Station Officer Steele, and Mike Flood; and Garrett as Elvis Cridlington. Series 5 has indeed a lot more action but isn't quite as good as the original four seasons. Not only it shows a completely different design but contains some continuity issues as well as some changes in character personalities. I think the original series would more likely become nostalgia than the newer version, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
I was listening to some 80s Sam audiobooks yesterday and there was one called "it's a dogs life" read by Jeremy Bulloch, instead of Alderton, and Jeremy's voice in the audiobook is identical to John Sparkes' voice, it's a coincidence but it is very similar in how the accent is depicted, and I do like the authentic ness of sparkes voice (maybe the deepness could show sam is older in series 5? he does have a birthday episode) I like both voices but I do prefer how Alderton used more local terminology (like Aye, darro etc) I do prefer the simple design of classic era, I agree about Elvis, I do prefer the updated intro, it does show him do more firefighter things other than sliding down the staircase and hearing the alarm. Trouble and Squeak I think is up there as one of the good series 5 episodes that retained the charm that the classic era had Trevor likely gave up the job due to his issues with heights, that was a big issue with him, but he clearly has retained some his knowledge and experience, like when he alerts to dilys and norman to leave in "the big freeze" when the electric blanket causes the fire. not bad for a first series analysis video, I like how you incorporated the synthy instrumental songs from classic era it goes well with the sonic music
Starring: The Real Norman Price (the main Protagonist) Cgi Norman/Satan Price (the Main Antagonist) Fireman Sam Elvis Cridlington (the protagonist’s sidekick) Penny Morris Station officer Steele Godzilla Dilys Price Trevor Evans The jellystone banana splits who are Cgi Norman/Satan Price’s Henchman who are also terrible versions of the banana splits but gets treated like a punch bag throughout the entire show and they keep dying in every episode but comes back in the next because they ruined the 1968-2008 banana splits’s reputations. Bella Lasagna Rosa Dusty Sarah and James Mandy Flood Mike Flood Helen Flood The jackdaw bird who only appeared in one episode of season 2 Bully Maguire And Francis from Left 4 Dead
I think the reason why they made Sam ginger is because in some scenes of the season 1-4 era the lighting makes Sam’s hair look orange instead of brown.
This video is great! Very interesting topic, when i was younger i first witnessed Seasons 5-6 of Fireman Sam when it would air on Sprout. While i respect your opinion on S5,12:26 i do agree with you here that this season was definitely the start of the downfall of Elvis as a character, but nothing really bad really starts until season 6 and future cgi seasons where he becomes very dumb imo. I also agree with you with the Score and Animation for this season, the stop motion in this season truly gives me Aardman vibes but that could be just me haha. Also pretty sure the composers Ben Heneghan and Ian Lawson came back for S5 as their last season. Which is a shame because after S5, the score downgraded pretty hard imo.
In ur custom version do u think that John Alderton would've returned as Ken Barrie returned to voice Pat in Pat's Cosgrove Hall Era (oh btw would u watch series 3 - 5 in ur free time)
@PostmanDouglas2011 Possibly. I thought series 3 to 5 was actually quite alright, its a bit of a step down from series 1 & 2, but still enjoyable (in my opinion anyway)

@PostmanDouglas2011 not that bad TBH. He does a good enough job at portraying Pat where he's nearly identical to Ken but also giving off an original take on him
In my opinion, Season 5 of Fireman Sam is basically an end of a good era in my opinion, and yes even though it had some problems with it, but it felt more like the previous four seasons and we all know that season 6 onwards was the beginning of the end and everything else in Season 5 is the exact same like The humor, the setting, the characters acting and feel the same etc. season 6 is just totally way too different, Season 5 could be the best season, but the first four are so much memorable, however it is my favorite season
Though season 5 is my personal favorite on a multitude of levels including technical and vocal (animation major and film study brain go brrrr) it does have its flaws. But I think we can all agree that it’s better then series 6 and onward ten fold.
Make no bones about it, I think Season 5 of Fireman Sam had both amazing animation and music. And ever since I watched it on PBS Sprout growing up in the US, it is my introduction to not only Fireman Sam but also Welsh culture in general. I eventually discovered the classic 4 seasons that were made in the late 80s and early 90s, which were all timeless, memorable, and mean a lot to me. However I do think this version of Fireman Sam was pretty short lived. It may seem like it was a the beginning of the end for Fireman Sam, which it is thanks to executive meddling from HiT, I feel that this version should’ve gotten a stop motion version of Season 6 instead of suddenly transitioning from stop motion to cgi. But I knew why it was short lived. Besides the executive meddling from HiT, the studio who made Season 5 “Siriol Entertainment” went under a overhaul in 2005 and it was renamed to Calon. It meant production on the new stop motion series of Fireman Sam would have to be halted to just merely 1 season, and since then, S4C had no choice to try and continue the show with HiT by turning it into the worst looking cgi imaginable. Even the cgi seasons made me turn the show off as they’re on Sprout.
One thing I really didn't like with season 5 was how the characters had hair that was clearly sculpted unlike the original series where they used what looks like actual hair and I didn't like how very limited the mouths were where is the original series the characters had static mouths but we're able to show expressions in the mouths in season 5 because the mouths were built into the model just so they could get the mouths to move when they spoke this just made the mouth expressions more limited as the characters couldn't show any mouth expressions other than a smile which to be fair works with shows like Bob the Builder but it just doesn't work with Fireman Sam because of how realistic the human characters are meant to look
Honestly, regarding Elvis being a total dumbass, I do have a theory. Every season of the show takes place within a short time period, which means season 1-5 takes place around probably the same year, hence the mistakes Elvis does.
The more you think about it, the more it makes sense, the characters almost don't age, and given how slow new technology reaches PontyPandy, the theory does work.@@HarveyRivers

@NemesisHero123 yeah, I agree to an extent. It has good moments and is not that bad, but it feels way too different to consider it a natural continuation of the original in my opinion. It's more of a 5/10 to me personally
Season 5 is Okay i guess? I mean there some good episodes but by this point i question why they it came back at all Fireman sam imo is really a show of that era just like postman pat but unlike that show that tried to at least have a similar feel not this show it is very hard for me to get into this season because of the 360 shift i know thomas has this too but that show it was more of a transition so when it did happened is was not a jarring. and it was aring new seasons each year starting with season 6.
Is no one gonna talk about Sam's hair not sticking out of his helmet like it should be to tell the difference between the other firefighters?! Also Sam's hair style is the wrong way round when you look at his shots without his helmet on.
THANK YOU. I honestly hate how his hair looked in series 5 and CGI. His original hair style told us he was the main character, but it was subtle. His modern hairstyle makes him look like a NPC Firefighter in my opinion
@yam9195 yea I know, but it looked abit darker compared to the modern seasons to me and I'm not a fan of a idea of him and Norman having the same hair colour due to a you know what theory
I mean the stop motion series are the best, but looks like in the CGI Series. Mattel, Xing Xing and HiT Turned all the character (well some) dumb and stupid. just look at norman hes so evil. He started a huge forest fire, stolen a fire truck, etc., etc., etc. but I still like the CGI and stop motion series. i mean S5 was like okay. but CGI Fireman Sam is in the middle for me aswell. Cuz NORMAN DOES VERY DUMB AND STUPID THINKS IN CGI. I MEAN HE CHANGED HIS BEHAVIOR IN S13 and S14
IMO, Season 5 is decent. It’s not as good as Seasons 1-4, but it’s NOWHERE near as awful as the later CGI seasons. I grew up with the early CGI seasons, and 1-5 on home media. Looking back, the CGI seasons are just soulless and lack the charm the stop motion version had.
Agreed on pretty much everything. If I tried explaining all my opinions it would take quite a bit of time... I might make a video about it myself, I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@HarveyRiversIn Twist of Fate Station Officer Steele jokes about being fat and gets stuck in a pothole (Doesn’t this fit Trevor more) but that’s nothing to the CGI Series although he uses to make me laugh and I think he has picked up Trevors old habit of eating all the time
I personally don't hate series 5, obviously nothing beats the first four seasons, but unlike the CGI reboot, the one in 2003 does share the similarities from the original like Penny's fitness training, Dilys flirting with Trevor and Sam's potato picker and still being an inventor. Also I do like the idea of Norman Price having a frenemy around his age, given that Sarah and James are two years younger than him (until I realised that Norman and the twins were the same age in the original, the twins were only aged down in the CGI reboot) And I always thought Norman was always one of the main character throughout the franchise, I always thought his shenanigans are what make the stories interesting, especially in the classics series like Norman's Tricky Day and What Goes Up. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel like Mandy, as well as the Floods and Tom Thomas were a great addition to the series. The voices for the characters, I personally think they are way more tolerable than the CGI reboot by far especially the kid characters. (Dilys, I'd say give or take) My only gripe with the series 5 was Trevor no longer being a part-time firefighter. Even though there was an episode when Trevor did still have his firefighters skills when he used a fire distinguisher to put down Bella's pizza oven, so it does some continuity of the original, but I definitely agree with you about Elvis and the lack of consistency. Personally, if they'd kept the same format for future seasons instead of the god awful CGI reboot, we'd have more stories focusing on other characters besides Norman as well as more development and growth from other characters especially Sam and Elvis, it'll felt more like the classic series but modernised in the right way.

Oh
@@HarveyRivers yeah interesting isn't it

5:11 not me, series 3’s the best 😂
To be fair, whilst Series 5 did have it's flaws, it at least tried to stay faithful to the original
And personallly I don't really mind the Bob the Builder style mouth and the Blue uniforms
The Fire Service wore darker blue uniforms in some annual stories I think
But I think we can all agree that the original series and Season 5 are both miles above the CGI series (Despite the fact that I find the CGI series, Meh)
No problem
As much as I love S5 I can see where your coming from.
Yea, definitely not a bad season, just not amazing as everyone says it is in my opinion
10:52 - LOL!
You should fix CGI fireman Sam
Probably some day
I was listening to some 80s Sam audiobooks yesterday and there was one called "it's a dogs life" read by Jeremy Bulloch, instead of Alderton, and Jeremy's voice in the audiobook is identical to John Sparkes' voice, it's a coincidence but it is very similar in how the accent is depicted, and I do like the authentic ness of sparkes voice (maybe the deepness could show sam is older in series 5? he does have a birthday episode)
I like both voices but I do prefer how Alderton used more local terminology (like Aye, darro etc)
I do prefer the simple design of classic era, I agree about Elvis, I do prefer the updated intro, it does show him do more firefighter things other than sliding down the staircase and hearing the alarm.
Trouble and Squeak I think is up there as one of the good series 5 episodes that retained the charm that the classic era had
Trevor likely gave up the job due to his issues with heights, that was a big issue with him, but he clearly has retained some his knowledge and experience, like when he alerts to dilys and norman to leave in "the big freeze" when the electric blanket causes the fire.
not bad for a first series analysis video, I like how you incorporated the synthy instrumental songs from classic era it goes well with the sonic music
Thanks
Good example these logos should stop oversimplifying but instead decided to redesign slightly by adding additional details and gradient fully 3D
Yeah
I hope you might do a video of Postman Pat: Series 3-5 & how I would fix it.

I think the reason why they made Sam ginger is because in some scenes of the season 1-4 era the lighting makes Sam’s hair look orange instead of brown.
I see, although it looked more red IMO
Thanks. I've not really seen anyone discuss series 5 in depth or why they consider it the best season, so I thought this was fun to make lol
In ur custom version do u think that John Alderton would've returned as Ken Barrie returned to voice Pat in Pat's Cosgrove Hall Era (oh btw would u watch series 3 - 5 in ur free time)
@PostmanDouglas2011 Possibly.
I thought series 3 to 5 was actually quite alright, its a bit of a step down from series 1 & 2, but still enjoyable (in my opinion anyway)
@@HarveyRivers I saw ur vid and I think that Julian and Lucy got the best development of the children and I'm glad that Ken was still Pat but it hurts that in the first season of SDS Bill and Lucy still hv Dads voiced by Ken Barrie but Julian doesn't (what do u think of Lewis Macloed's Pat voice)
@PostmanDouglas2011 not that bad TBH.
He does a good enough job at portraying Pat where he's nearly identical to Ken but also giving off an original take on him
@@HarveyRivers I can sit through his performance js I think they don't sound identical but it could hv been a prequel all along
@PostmanDouglas2011 yeah
Will you do the CGI series next?
Possibly. I might rewatch some episodes soon and possibly discuss about it
In my opinion, Season 5 of Fireman Sam is basically an end of a good era in my opinion, and yes even though it had some problems with it, but it felt more like the previous four seasons and we all know that season 6 onwards was the beginning of the end and everything else in Season 5 is the exact same like The humor, the setting, the characters acting and feel the same etc. season 6 is just totally way too different, Season 5 could be the best season, but the first four are so much memorable, however it is my favorite season
I understand and I respect your opinion
i agree
Though season 5 is my personal favorite on a multitude of levels including technical and vocal (animation major and film study brain go brrrr) it does have its flaws.
But I think we can all agree that it’s better then series 6 and onward ten fold.
Definitely agreed
Interesting
The more you think about it, the more it makes sense, the characters almost don't age, and given how slow new technology reaches PontyPandy, the theory does work.@@HarveyRivers

True
Is no one gonna talk about Sam's hair not sticking out of his helmet like it should be to tell the difference between the other firefighters?! Also Sam's hair style is the wrong way round when you look at his shots without his helmet on.
THANK YOU. I honestly hate how his hair looked in series 5 and CGI. His original hair style told us he was the main character, but it was subtle. His modern hairstyle makes him look like a NPC Firefighter in my opinion
Red Hairs are cool!@@HarveyRivers
@@yam9195 indeed. I'd say Sam’s hair colour works best as brown or redish brown in my opinion
true but his hair was red in literally the first season and in the intro.@@HarveyRivers
Indeed
IMO, Season 5 is decent. It’s not as good as Seasons 1-4, but it’s NOWHERE near as awful as the later CGI seasons. I grew up with the early CGI seasons, and 1-5 on home media. Looking back, the CGI seasons are just soulless and lack the charm the stop motion version had.

(Dilys, I'd say give or take)
My only gripe with the series 5 was Trevor no longer being a part-time firefighter.
