Excellent explanation of the storage of files for FCPX. Thank you, I had to learn the hard way...this video put it all into perspective, wish I would have seen this 5 years ago...
When I saw the word consolidate it made me so happy! FCP 7’s media mangler was nowhere near as great as FCPX’s easy offline online workflows. Smart. Great video!
Great info! Thank you!!! One question ... Could you, in a future video, please explain how folders are used within libraries? Keep up the great work and have a better day!
It would seem your excellent videos are targeted for the high end user; students at film school or small business production companies etc. There are many of us who just use FCP to make small videos featuring our kids and family stuff. So most of your content is exceptionally good it is way over my head. Could you please consider a set of videos aimed at people like me; an old bloke wanting to make nice videos of the grandkids and holiday memories. Kind regards from Orange in Australia.
Hey, Mark, this is a great primer altho I bought a copy of the lectures. Suggestion: how about the same for Da Vinci? While I imagine the topics might map similarly, the specifics of applying them to DaVnince might be really helpful to those of us using both.
does consolidating libraries making it so that you delete the original footage such as music and camera clips from the computer but it won’t show up the missing files in the library when i open it up in the future?
I edited and delivered a project and now am working on another from same SD cards/footage. Shot on 4K and AVCHD. Copied my SD cards to external HD and then after the project was done, copied all to another HD. Realizing the errs of my ways, I tried to create a camera archive and got an error: "There is no application set to open the document "CANON Vixia BFI SD Card 4.fcarch". Search the app store..." Wasn't sure what to search for. Also, will creating a camera archive at this point change my timeline and names of clips? Where is the camera archive saved to, Macbook internal drive, external?
Camera archive are for creating a clone of your original media card as a backup. They can ONLY be created from the original camera card or an exact clone of the camera card folder hierarchy. Camera archives can be stored anywhere on your system.
You can structure your media however you like. However, with hundreds of scenes and takes that a feature requires, you might find just using keywords a bit limiting
Does FCPX allow you to store a portion of the raw media clips with handles when archiving the project? So, if you used 10 seconds of media from a 4GB GoPro clip do you really need to store the original 4GB clip in the archive????
Great video, Mark! Can you please help? I am at a loss with new update of Final Cut Pro X. Before my computer automatically updated everything was working perfectly on the last update, but now all my projects with Canon log 3 footage display strangely , it’s as if they have a colour tint applied to them, even though I have not applied a lut or any colour correction. The only time that my footage displays correctly now is when I just allow the video to play in the timeline, but the second I pause the clip or if my playhead lingers on a clip whilst I am scrubbing, my footage instantly displays a colour shift, until I play the video again. This wouldn’t as big of a deal if the export didn’t have the colour shift all the way through. I am so lost. There is no way I can hand this footage off to a colourist. If anyone can help, I’ll be beyond grateful.
Mark Spencer I have checked and there is no lut applied. It’s such a strange issue as even if I apply a lut , the lut itself also displays a colour shift if I pause the video or hover over the clip in the timeline. The only way the original footage looks normal is if I let it play but the second I pause it, it colour shifts, until I play it again. Also, the exported video displays the colour shift all the way through. Any further suggestions? I have tried deleting and reinstalling Final Cut and the issue persists.
@@creativeorstrange If this isn't too late, the colour shift has been reported by some folks working with FCP 10.4.9. Here is a link to the L.Jordan article: www.theinsidetips.com/tip-1016-caution-color-flickering-in-fcp-x-10-4-9/
Andrey Chernyshev Thank you so much for taking the time to give me this link. Those issues are similar to the ones I am experiencing. I hope Apple sorts it out soon now that they are aware of it.
Wish we had a better system for archiving libraries. Copying a project into a new library is good, but not nearly as good as the old days using media manager to downsize footage by creating handles. I miss that feature dearly.
Very easy to understand Tutorial. Even if you are not a computer savvy . Thank you .
This is the best and clearest presentation on FCP I’ve have ever seen - congratulations!
This is the BEST explanation file management on Final Cut Pro!
Thank you so much. Very informative as usual
wonderful, thanks

Probably the very best of the best.
Your training is the best! And I love the one-minute tips. They're amazing.

FCP 7 was great when it was released. Now it's been superseded by FCPX.
Mark, this was so helpful that I wanted more. You have the heart of a teacher sir and it comes thru in your videos. Thank you sir.
@@titankody6192 Are you all working together?
Very useful and clear way of describing where and how media is stored
Sir... I like your body language 👍❤️
Good deal! Looking forward to the updated tut!

Keep up the great work and have a better day!
Folders are great for organizing keyword collections and smart collections.
Yeah I agree I would like to see this as well.
This was so helpful, I was only thinking just the other day there has to be a better way to organise my FCP folders! Thank you
Excellent as always!

Great round up. Is it possible to differentiate automatically different cameras upon import in a event?

what if I've organized my dailies in different folders and keys instead of using events? Will it still be OK to work on a feature film?

No. This is not possible without a 3rd party plugin - you need this app - apps.apple.com/us/app/worx4-x/id1195903030?mt=12

To organize your material to make it easy to locate specific shots when building your edit.

Select a clip in the Browser, and in the Info Inspector, set to Extended Settings, check to see if a LUT is applied and if it's the correct one.
