  • Let's work on cleaning up this Trident Maple bonsai for a photoshoot! I will clip off some of the foliage to expose more of the thick trunk and create a more asymmetrical shape.

    Hi Milton I have spent most of the day doing exactly the same work on my Field Maples doing all the rough work ready to refine the trees tomorrow to produce an image similar to yours, the trees are growing so fast at the moment it’s hard to keep up with them all. I know what you say about getting carried away, no matter how much you look at the tree you see some thing that needs more clipping. I have never owned a Trident Maple, finding one that appeals to me has not proved possible as yet, maybe someday I will find one to work on.

      Yes, Maple grows very fast this time of the year.

    I just started getting into Bonsai.
    I planted my first pines last year from seed.
    It's nice watching them grow.

    The first Bonsai I ever purchased was a Trident Maple; I’d seen a beautiful example of one in a book many years earlier, and it always sparked my interest to get into Bonsai. I will definitely be interested after you’ve propagated the cuttings and make them available for purchase. The shiny leafs in this variety is very interesting to me. I’ve also gotten several cuttings off of my Trident, and took 5 of them in hopes of turning it into a clump-style tree; so far so good. Thanks for another enjoyable video!

    As always, you’re giving me so many tips for my garden trees.
    My mimosa currently looks terrible but I’m slowly bringing it to a height of around 6 foot tall
    Amazing video my friend.

    Great details in getting it shaped and trimmed to what you envision. Slow step by step on how to proceed. Great bonsai you have there. Keep these videos coming. We love them.

    Question regarding angle of cut on a shoot or branch, does it make a difference whether the cut is facing downward or upward to determine the direction of growth?

    The olive tree is about 3 inches, and about 6-7 years old. Is growing in a pot.

    I’m having issues with pests of some sort killing all the soft tissue on many of my trees. Would you be open to a pest management and identification video?

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 2 місяці тому

      Sure...I am no pest expert bcause Ihave not had much problem.
      Usually snail is the culprit for eating tender leaves...Checik under pots during the day...that's where they hide.
      For most insects. Malathion is an excellent broad spray that is relative low toxic to human.
      Keep your tres clean and well pruned.
      And if you are a purist, try mineral oil spray or alcohol.
      I had a mealybug probke with with my prized cycad (indoor) ...used nontoxic ways and could never solved the mealybug problem for 25 years! Two spary of malathion and I am done!

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  Місяць тому +1

      Basically it is likely to be snails that are eating the tender grow. Check under bonsai pots where they hide during the day. Keep your trees clean…Spray with a mild broad spectrum insecticide like malathion. And if you want to be organic, spray alcohol or mineral oil on your trees… although doing so rarely works.

      @@bonsaiheirloom thank you Mr. Chang! I’ve sprayed with Malathion per your advice, and also fed the roots with a tree and shrub protect and feed. Wish us luck!!!
