    Leaving the top of the artwork pocket open and place your artwork in after the bag is turned would solve the wrinkles in the artwork. You could switch out the artwork as well.

      Great idea, Kathie. Can be sewn at the top, if you want the enclosed artwork to be permanent for some reason. If stitching, I'd add extra allowance to the top of the artwork, so it can be included in the seam that encloses the top. That way it will stay in position and not shift from side to side, with turning and/or use. Would keep artwork, done on a fabric panel, from sliding down and bunching at the bottom of the tote.

      Maybe then laminate the artwork so it’s still waterproof. 😀

      So many options with this bag! I like my artwork to be centered in the front of the bag, and sort of stitched in place, which is why I sewed it in this order. Plus it's harder to sew the straps on, if you hem and sew straps at the end...but find out what works for you! There are endless ways to do it! Dana

    You can remove some of the wrinkles from turning right side out by warming a towel as hot as you can with your iron and then running the vinyl over the hot towel. No risk of melting the vinyl, and it smooths it out again.

    Like this idea, as I have some small inspirational fabric panels that will work great as an alternative to paper. Plus, fewer wrinkles, after turning. :-) FWIW... Fabrics can be run through a printer, or scraps made into any size quilt block (with a backing). Themed placemats (fabric or other) cut to desired size, is another design source. I'm sure there are many other options, including logos from t-shirts. (Fabric should be stitched directly to the vinyl to hold it in position on the vinyl panel.
    Since white thread was used, keeping white gift wrap tissue paper between the vinyl and the throat place of the machine, will make sewing easier. If any tiny bits of tissue paper remain, after tearing it away, they won't be as noticeable. Matching tissue paper to thread color will help when making a large quantity of these at one time. Ease of sewing will, often, make it worthwhile to use tweezers to pick out the noticeable bits of remaining tissue paper.
    Again, really like this idea and how you presented it. Been exploring, a bit, sewing vinyl for book covers, sewing machine mats with clear pockets, etc. A source for clear vinyl is a clear shower curtain. Weight /stiffness of vinyl will vary by manufacturer and quality of the curtain. Mentioned, as an option for those who don't have an Joanne's or a Walmart with a fabric dept, nearby.
    Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year!

    Tip for anyone struggling to turn the bag is to warm the vinyl up with a hair dryer (low heat about 6 inches away).
    My husband held the hair dryer for me so I could get the angle right to turn the bag. I found it hard to turn as the vinyl I had was very hard anyway and I was making a mini tote for my 1.5 yr old, so it was even harder.

    Love this video as I do all of the ones that you have done. I have a baby lock Sophia sewing machine and I have found when doing back stitching, it nests on the bobbin side of the material making the stitching quite unsightly. The forward stitching looks great. Any suggestions on what is causing the bunching on back stitching? Thanks, Dana. Have a blessed day.

    • @brendajos
      @brendajos 5 років тому

      Do you pull the bobbin thread up from underneath before you start sewing? I don't have a baby lock but I find that if I don't pull up my thread and hold it for the first stitch or two I get the bird's nest.

      I have the exact same problem, now I use a great tip from another UA-cam channel I can’t remember which one now but if you take a tiny scrap bit of plastic or whatever fabric that your sewing and put it under the presser foot before stitching, make a couple of stitches on that and then just start sewing straight onto your main project it puts all the bunched up stitches into the scrap fabric and not your main fabric!

      Hi Trudy, thanks! Yes, you could use a size 80 or 90 needle....or if you find some that are meant specifically for vinyl, go for it. But to be honest, I'm lazy about changing needles, so I just use my standard needle for almost all fabrics I sew with! :) Dana

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 5 років тому

      Suzanne, boxing the corners is a good idea, whether it was done in the thumbnail or not. I like the look of boxed corners. Just have to take it slow and easy, with the machine, when crossing seams. For this I'd also use tissue paper over the throat plate and on top, if a Teflon foot (or taped foot) is not available. Use tweezers to pick out any bits of paper, afterwards.
      Thanks for sharing your thought!

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  5 років тому

      No, I actually didn't box it out on this one....but that's what I love about using vinyl and turning it right side out like this....it gives the bag a good boxy dimension. If you want to box out the corners, I have a video for that here (in the second half of the video): ua-cam.com/video/-OCRclg0hpU/v-deo.html
