Just a pro tip from an upholsterer/custom boot maker... If you spray aerosol silicone spray on your table/sewing machine bed and wipe with a piece of t-shirt your materials that stick will slide, it will last quite awhile also, a quick spray on a rag and wipe down will get you through a small project.
El Michelle , thank you, that is a fantastic idea! Anyone who does paint pours with acrylic will have silicone oil. Just a tiny bit of that will do the same thing I would think, what say you?
El Michelle, Same here, It has so many fantastic uses, I use it for many different things and would not be without, the oil and the spray. Great stuff! I never really would have thought of doing that though. Thanks for that great Idea! Oh hey, Do you have a website by any chance or are you like me and just keep your work personal? 😉
I needed a purse, bag, or pouch to enter a concert and just found your video, which I used to make my own, and to make it a little more comfortable, I added a shoulder strap. Thank you so much for your time to show how to do it.
This would be an amazing gift for a bride to give her attendants!!! You could give these to the girls the day of the wedding with the gift of earrings so they all match on your wedding day. OF course use fabric in the colors you've chosen for your wedding!
Loved your video Lauren!!! So many excellent tips and a beautiful finished bag! It's rare that a demonstrator doesn't go on and on about useless info but you never do, you are clear, to the point, fun, very knowledgeable, confident and I could happily watch a video you made all day long! 5 stars, 2 thumbs up from me! Hope to see another project by Lauren soon! Thank you for taking the time to teach us how to make the wonderful project. P.S. Ben is so cute and I enjoyed his debut!
I don't have a commercial machine, I sew on a domestic machine, using my teflon foot when sewing vinyl. I will also use tissue paper under my vinyl to keep it from sticking to the bed of my machine.
I love this pattern. I just made one in about an hour! I've been working on a very difficult pattern that was kicking my butt and I needed to make something easy and fast to restore my faith in my sewing ability. LOL This was just the ticket. Thanks again for being a mind reader!!!!
ooh Lauren i knew i liked you from the start, YOU GOT A KITTY! SO PRECIOUS! But gurl, i am TRULY DIGGIN THAT MICHEAL MILLER FABRIC! I went on Amazon to see if i could find it, they didn't have it but i found some more really cool fabric prints of his. but i Love that print you got! it reminds me of one of my favorite artists, Lithenstein.
Thanks for the idea for a simple project. Love the fabric! A helpful tip for working with clear vinyl is to place a piece of tissue paper between the vinyl and the sewing machine and then it just tears away after you sew and it keeps the vinyl from sticking. I use the tissue scraps that come with the interfacing.
So awesome! This is my new favorite project bag for knitting and crochet! Thanks to the viewer for the tip of using the tissue paper that comes with the vinyl to prevent it from sticking. That worked like a charm! I am going to make so many of these!
7:35 The first rotary cutter was introduced by Olfa in 1979. The guy who sold me my sewing machine showed me a book his mom wrote on quilting right before the rotary cutter was introduced and adopted by quilters and each piece had to be hand cut. 😅
Vanessa Mtz, Yep. Cut the templates out of cardboard or sandpaper; hand cut each & every little piece. I was going to say, probably sometime in the 1980’s, because my first quilting class was 1981, (quilting was just starting to come back in style) and we (students & teacher) had not yet heard about the rotary cutters and acrylic rulers. But as soon as I did, I bought them! That changed everything! Especially the clear rulers, which are a huge help for all kinds of sewing & crafting. Before that, rulers you couldn’t see through. (How archaic, lol. But seriously, so annoying!). And of course, the rotary cutter, so MUCH faster & more accurate (although there was a learning curve to hold it properly while cutting) and I was terrified at first I was going to cut myself, but I never did, am always careful. I still have my original 28 mil Olfa cutter, & then added a Fiskar’s ergonomic 45 mil, and they’re both still going strong - I still use them. Didn’t realize it had been so long, lol! Still have my original acrylic ruler too, although I’ve upgraded those as they’ve improved leaps & bounds, esp. thicker & better markings. Wow, I think I’m officially vintage, lol!😬
@@fludrbywest3886 I think grandma might be a bit younger if she had a rotary cutter, yes it’s not a 1960 invention though I think her grandma would probably laugh, can we interview grandma?
I stumbled upon this video and decided to give this project a try I made two today. The first one gave me a few fits with the zipper...so I slightly altered the second one. Fun pattern.
I use the paper that comes with the clear vinyl. I cut 1” w- x(?) the Lg of the zipper or seam I sew . It tears away easily. Love the projects you do. Thank you for sharing your beautiful talents.
I absolutely love, love, love this bag! I crochet and this would make perfect project bags! I will be making lots of them! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Awesome tutorial! You're great at mentioning all the little important things we might forget, and really keep the talking informative without stumbling around and repeating things! That bag is so nice. Thank you for uploading. :)
I make close to the same bag,but with material, comic strip newspapers, and packing tape. These materials also make great, colorful wastebaskets.thank you for the video.😉
Wow! Not only is this a useful ‘On Trend’ project, the tutorial is well made! Your directions are clear, concise, accurate, informative and well-spoken. Your instructions/directions may move a bit quickly for a brand new novice sewer, however you answered every question that popped into my mind. (Novice sewers, just watch it a couple times. There’s LoTS of great info) Your tutorial is the best I’ve watched in a long time. Thank you for including thickness of the clear vinyl, length of stitch as well as your seam allowances. I wouldn’t have remembered to lengthen my stitch until after I got started... and then I would have perforated the clear vinyl. Also, thank you for not including a long introduction into your ‘life story’ or cheesy music. (Hey Ben, Cool 🐈)
You gave a very nice tutorial. Very informative and you have a pleasant voice to listen to. I love the bag you made! It is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your project.
You are the bomb. Can I tell you how long I have been trying to learn about Vinyl and fabric just like this, in general. I make jewelry and like to include some fun stuff but I don't want to dig deep and learn all of it for the few times I use it. I wind up just giving up and never actually making anything. It's a hassle. I have seen countless tutorials and they say "buy vinyl sheets" "get fabric, all types, at stores that sell it" omg. Finally someone said something that I can use and really make something ..Thank youuuuu! Wish I found you first.
What an amazing idea!! I'm going to make several of these this afternoon for my daughter to take to work with her. She teaches at a preschool/daycare center and they will be perfect to put the little ones extra clothes, dry or wet (accidents do happen at daycare😉). So thank you so very much for this quick and very useful tutorial!!
I love this tutorial and have made one. I am busy making 10 more of these bags for my daughters crèche so the kids can put their lunch boxes in them. Thanks again for this clear and easy tutorial. I also see your iron. I would love to get one for myself.
This is awesome. Iʻm working on a vinyl case to protect my documents from the rain and Iʻm glad I found your tutorial first before going too deep. The pattern I was using wasn't quite right and now I'm going to switch to your version. I love your fabric and colorful zipper too! Thank you sharing this tutorial!
If don't have a teflon foot you can put some scotch tape on the bottom of your presser foot so it doesn't stick to the vinyl and put tissue paper under the vinyl to keep it from sticking to the bed of your machine.
Really enjoyed watching your video! I'm not a seamstress, but you make me want to give it a try. By the way, that is THE absolute coolest iron I have ever seen! Can't wait to show my aunt (she's the seamstress in the family)! Thank you so much!!!
My first quilting class was an Eleanor Burnes in the early 80's. My first rotary cutter had 2 blades and you adjusted the width between the blades, no rulers used, lol. The 60's....silly girl, lol..
great pattern/bag I made 2 today ! Ok have to add that the vinyl I used was probably for table coverings from Joann but it worked great - I only seem to have an issue with the zipper foot pushing the zipper over and being a bit wonky. I have a new 770 QE plus so I am learning a new machine as well but I love the results I will add a picture of my bags -
I really loved this video, so good to see someone so young with those kind of skills. Thanks for sharing. I’m wondering what kind of iron is that? I love this❤️ nice sewing machine.
Thanks for fun tutorial! I ordered some waterproof canvas using your link. I first learned about it from you awhile back but finally decided to try 4 colors!
Just found your you tube and think your instructions are very detailed and can’t wait to try and make one. Love that you are using the vinyl I bought the annies one isn’t that easy to get here in Australia. A tip for cutting the vinyl is to use an older rotary cutter (I use a sharpie on the blade to write blunt) not the brand new one as the vinyl blunts the blade. Also please please remember to close your blade every time. My first patchwork class I had a nurse and she told us she had seen so many people with toes cut off from dropping the blade on their toes. It was a good habit to get into. Also the same for the scissors. I now know why my mum used to scream not my good scissors when I was a kid. Where did you get the cool zips? I also have a roller you can use to finger press . I have liked and subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more videos from you. From Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
I just love this video. So glad I found it. I followed the instructions and made a bag today. It turned out so cute. The instructions are very easy to follow which is something I really appreciate. Thanks for sharing your sewing skills with us!!
I'm so glad I found this video. I've made a few full vinyl bags but I love yours more with the material at the bottom. I just bought a large roll of vinyl. Great video.....so easy to follow. Thank you.
Lauren, I just wanted to let you know that “Salirite” has the zipper jig for $45.95. It’s exactly like the one you have. I bought it and it’s worth every penny.

Good idea grandma! I am not a grandma , but your idea for Lego bricks which I still have loads of, I am saving them for my grandkids which I hope to have one day😊 What i love is that you are going to teach a grandson ! I love when parents and grandparents teach male offsprings domestic skills. I have a hubby that brings me everything to mend ...sad ...his mom did not teach him basic domestic skills. I am going to attempt making this bag .....I like the idea to pack stuff for vacation . Thanks for sharing !
Love the tutorial, and also love the way you infuse the enjoyment of sewing, easy use of great tools, and the importance of buying good quality tools because they last. (Plus, I never know what color your hair will be!!! Fun!)
Great video! I am so excited to make this... I made a tote out of gold vinyl and clear vinyl but I made it too big. The technique and sizing that you shared will work great so that I can make a perfect size for an elderly sweetheart who has to use oxygen and monitor her sugar constantly. Thanks so much!

I really appreciate the alternative suggestions like, don't have vinyl? Get a shower curtain, use a beddig set bag, great ideas!
This would be an amazing gift for a bride to give her attendants!!! You could give these to the girls the day of the wedding with the gift of earrings so they all match on your wedding day. OF course use fabric in the colors you've chosen for your wedding!
Hi, lovely clear instructions, thank you and no intrusive music. Thank you so much.
I love that you do not waste materials, even when fuzzy cutting you are careful not to waste. I think this one clear carry all is a winner.

I only made one but same here, first time using vinyl, waterproof canvas and I was so proud of myself for figuring out how to use my walking foot that I’ve had for over 2 years and never used! She makes it look so easy!
Thanks for the tutorial. Easy to understand and follow.
Thanks for this!!! I love watching you work! You work VERY quickly!!! :c)
