I think this is our most commented on video! Yes, we realize that we mispronounced the word Gila….. thank you for telling us over & over & over😂😂😂. Still one of our all time FAVORITE SPOTS!! I am feeling the need to go back.

great videos guys. thx for sharing my home state. only tip I can give you is the G in Gila is pronounced like Hila with a H. Jemez mountains that are in NM is the same way the J is pronounced with a H so it sounds like Hemez. stay warm and safe travels

Isn't it pronounced "hee-la"? Love New Mexico.
I've also heard it pronounced poh-tuh-bul water.
Hypnotic music + drone footage - some kind of Philip Glass vibe going there....

I live locally, but what we do is the dwellings and hot springs the same day. We often will stay a night at the hot springs or somewhere nearby to get more Gila River play time.
My wife prefers the hot springs I prefer stomping the river or climbing the rocks on the other side.
Another great trip with two birds in one stone is the Catwalk and Mogollon. They’re close enough that it’s pretty easy to do both in one day. Just be prepared for a pretty hairy drive to Mogollon, and try to do it first or you might find every place is closed up there. Mogollon for the morning and early afternoon. The catwalk for a nice picnic and hike in the afternoon and early evening.
      We absolutely love living here.
Faywood hot springs and The City of Rocks are also right next to each other, for yet another two places in one day.
      Want another one?
Bear Canyon Reservoir and Lake Roberts are also pretty close and can both be done easily in one day.
This area is great for those that love the outdoors.
Then there are some more hidden gems than those places… but we gotta know each other better to share that info 😂

This is our stomping grounds. We sometimes pay to camp at the hot springs, and other times find a spot somewhere more secluded and just day use the hot springs.
The roads could sure use some guard rails in a bunch of places, so make sure your brakes are good.

@@oneadVANtureatatime no problem. I’m a PNW boy born and raised… so I mispronounced everything at first.
I first came here to the valley in 81 to visit my dad. I would visit every summer (he lived in what is now the Mimbres cultural heritage site museum). I moved here in 85 and then moved back to the PNW after graduating HS in ‘87.
My wife and I raised 4 kids in the Columbia river gorge in Goldendale Wa. What a great area. We know the Mt Adams areas like the back of our hand.
Once all 4 kids were adults the wife wanted a place with milder seasons and shorter winters. I said, well ya know…
We visited in march of 2019. Moved here July 5th 2019. We couldn’t be happier.
We still go back to visit Washington and all 4 kids. And now a grand daughter, as well as my siblings and my mom and nieces and nephews, and long time friends.
We also love to go during huckleberry season. We love both places. Both great with differing attributes.

The hotsprings are a private campground. Youll have to check about rates but when we stayed there it was $8 per night/per person. It was worth it to have access to the three pools all night. I dipped several times. If is in or near the national forest.........not to be confused with national park, the annual park pass does not apply. If you didnt want to pay for the private campground there was a free one really close by. Warning....there is no cell service and i would check the weather before going.

Glad you enjoyed it. I live nearby. It does sound goofy though, how you pronounce it, (or should I say Hoofy)? Gila is a Spanish word, and is pronounced Heela, not Gilla. Gila Hot Springs, Gila Forest, Gila river, Gila Monster, etc. (all pronounced Heela). Come back. Have fun.

I enjoyed your show. FYI, the first syllable of Gila is not pronounced like Gilbert or Ghee. It is pronounced like the male pronoun he. It's probably a good idea to ask locals how they say something. Be safe out there.

It’s called Gila campground and Hot Springs. (33.1974472, -108.2048161) . The Hotsprings are in a private campground. When we went it was $8 a person to stay the night. There is amazing Boondocking just down the road. Our friends tried to go last month but you need reservations.

Y’all not from the west, are you. Gila is pronounced (HEE-lah) not gilla. Please, if you are going to highlight the state, just stop and ask someone how to pronounce the name of the National Forrest you are camping in and talking about.
