I am not into leatherworking atm, but when the winter comes I have to be ready! Please share your thought about my job and maybe subscribe, thanks for watching!
Great job from a technical perspective, but one can see that you haven't used one much yourself. The issue with a knob placed that far up the pony is that it results in the thread getting caught around the knob unless you're careful. You can get around that by angling the pony while stitching or using different mechanics here.
@@sengelhard2982 you're right, i don't have much experience and it's right what you say ... i will use it a little and if there are too many problems i will build a different one😁. Thank you for your time
The other thing to think about is the colour of the leather you have used at the end of the clamp... A darker colour like this may leave marks on lighter leathers. Otherwise it's a very nice job...
Yes, this is true, but i discovered too late! Unfortunately I had to give away my creation 🧑🎄, or better my friend stole it... When I can I will make a new better one and i will put it in the safebox, but at the moment I am very busy and my workshop is about 0 degree 🥶.... I need to wait a little. Thanks for your suggestion and interest!
Thank you for sharing your amazing project. Last winter I made two from my scrap lumber pile. They were both built to set between your legs on the chair as you stitch, one had a fixed base the other a swivel. I do most of my stitching sitting so this works best for me. I showed them to my brothers and they liked them and I gave them away. I had used one of them some and it made my leather stitching easier. I gave the other one away and then I made a rifle scabbard and needed one. After the scabbard was completed I decided I really needed a stitching pony so I built another one with a swivel base. I was able to do a couple of things differently that makes it work a little better. The only things I purchased was the spring and a wing nut, all the rest of the project came from stuff I have salvaged or kept from other projects. For the magnets, I just drilled a hole in the edge of the upright and mounted them flush. I like your way better, but I had never seen it before. Also I really like the way you made the round handles, on my first ones they didn't have the indents. I figured how to make them kind of like yours, but they aren't as pretty. This project reminds me of what my 80-year-old friend said, "sometimes figuring out how to do this is just as important as completing the whole project." Once again, thank you for sharing!
many thanks for your nice words. The compliments from someone who has already built a similar project make me very proud. I'm happy to have given you new ideas, all of which could be improved, but I also started from scratch and used my imagination while building. when I started I didn't have very clear ideas and I had to invent as I went along, which is the part I like most about this hobby. Thankyou
Wow! The amount of care and attention to detail you put into this is simply amazing. It turned out beautiful, and it looks like you ended up with a really good stitching pony too. Wish I had the skills to pull something like this off.
Superior work. Your shop is excellent. It looks like you've spent a lot of time designing. It sure pays off, when you pay attention to detail like you have. Thanks for the video I really enjoyed it.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it and I'm glad you understand that behind every project there is a lot of work and care. Many times I don't care about the result (and the video I'm shooting ...), because it's just my hobby, I love doing it and I do it first for myself. Thanks again, your comment is really appreciated
Bravo!!! Not only well made, but gorgeous. It will make leatherwork all that more enjoyable. Ingenious to put the magnet in to hold the needles. It was a pleasure watching your precise work methods. I love a craftsman that takes the time to do it right. Have fun with your new craft!
It's a lovely piece of kit, isn't it? I've picked up some great ideas for when i make my own. I'm sure i could build one exactly the same if i had a workshop full of machines at my disposal. Unfortunately, i haven't. 😔
Beautiful looking I made one you sit on the Tandy leather store manager called it a stitching horse lol I left it at his store about 6 weeks and told them to use it ,and received input about so I rebuilt the clamps based on that and looking at antique ones now it needs accessories and a cushion to sit on.
Hi, I would like to make a stitching horse too for a friend who ask me, but (fortunately) I am busy at work now and didn't have the time to do nothing... Maybe in the autumn I can dedidicate to my hobby!
Well... you surely gave me the right input about making by my self a wooden vise❗ Even without templates I surely can figure out how to do , many thanks 😁
@@rustywood5614 Hi there ! You surely can say it ! As a matter of fact, I'm right now making one with my skills (I'm an old mechanic)... also because, in the same time, I'm making a leather rear pocket man wallet. Also this one without templates (my ideas) but I must admit I watched many YT vid. Stay healthy 💪👍 greetings from 🇨🇭
Best stitching pony I have ever seen 🤩 Made with so much attention to detail, the magnet on the side is awesome. Congratulations, really great work! Video is already in my Playlist 👍🏻 Greetings from Austria

Thank's a lot, I appreciate it
Very nicely made and looks awesome! The only thing I would change was making the jaws out of a hardwood instead of what looks like pine.
That’s a beautiful and proper stitching pony! A lot of work… but the results are outstanding.
