Stitching pony DIY - How to make a wooden vise for leather working
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- In this video i will plan and make a wooden vise for leather working, inspired from one of the most popular stitching pony design.
I designed and render my project in a 3D software first, and than i build it with some scrap wood and some leather remnant.
The stitching clamp is an essential tool for leather working, for hand stitching. Very compact and foldable, easy to store.
Template here: www.buymeacoff...
How can i get pattern?
Template is available here in scale 1:1 link: www.buymeacoffee.com/LTMS/e/48696
All pieces are printed front and side, you can take the measures or just glue it to the wood
@@LTMS Awesome, thank you so much!
@@LTMS Wow!, I really appreciate it man... Thank you very much! 👏👍
That fancy rotary wooden knob for opening & closing the pony clamp --has to be held /bonded TIGHTLY & securely in place !
the spring tension keeps it in place, I've been using this pony for 3 years now and the only change I've made to it is the color (now it's dark)
Pleasure --keep up the good work --!
Thank you
Been tanning leather for50 odd years ---croc /leopard / ostrich ---but now I am striating my own wallets /beltes etc --here in Africa
Nice, thanks for sharing, I appreciate it
Talk about tools. You have it all man. You are living the dream
The workshop you see in the video it's not my place unfortunately, I can use it some time. I make most of my videos at home, with minimal equipment
OK ! I may say, one of the most useful home made "wooden vise for leather sewing" ever seen on YT👍💪 congrats ❗
Thanks for your kind comment, I really appreciate it
it is so calming and interesting watching you work
Thanks, I really appreciate your thoughts and I'm glad you liked it
Thank you very much for the pattern, and the great video. Plan on making some of my parts from Baltic birch plywood.
Plywood is a good choice especially for the part who clamp to the table, the one i made with pine wood is a bit weak and I have to be careful when I close it
I saw a video of a beauty made from walnut --mass produced it has 2 handles on the base -like cricket bat handles --you squeeze em together to release your workpiece --
I want to make something similar
Mine has a strong spring ---built it for quick release etc !
there are many ways to make them, I'm designing one without knobs, because sometimes the thread (when is long) gets caught in them.
The important thing is that it meets your needs.
Very nice design thanks for sharing, i might add rare earth magnets under the leather on the jaws to hold needles.
Thank you, I made a tool holder for my leather working projects and I keep needles there. You can see it in the notebook cover video, but the magnets idea is a good one.
The magnets are a grand idea, and not just for holding needles.
I added one to both jaws on either sides, for a total of 4. Due to arthritis in my fingers, I sometimes need to use a small needle nose pliers to pull needles through 2 layers of 5/6 oz (or thicker) leather, and doing the put it down and pick it up again routine with the needle nose was getting old. But now it's right at my hands when I need it, the rare earth magnet is more than strong enough to hold it. It's also useful to stick a small stitching awl on the opposite jaw side to the pliers... now both of those essential tools are right at my finger tips.
Ottimo video, con un sacco di informazioni utili. Grazie per aver condiviso il template.
Grazie per il tuo feedback, molto apprezzato
Great job 👍👍👍
Thanks for your appreciation.
gud a.m sir h.m the stiching pony the way u make in video tnxs and GOD BLESS sir
Thanks for your appreciation 🙂
You could inlay some neodymium magnets up top near the closing part so that way you can rest your needles 🪡 when you’re not using them or in the middle of work!
This is a nice suggestion, thank you 🙂
Thanks a lot for the template.😊
Thanks for the support, have fun making it
Looks goood. Want 1
Thank you, you can make it with the free template I provided.
Great job man!
Thanks a lot, I appeciate
Thanks for the pattern!
You are welcome, glad you like it
Excelente trabajo y resultado 👍🖐️❤️🇨🇱
Solo me queda darte las gracias infinitas.
Also, new subscriber here especially for this!
Thanks for your appreciation and for the support to the channel
ill make it with stacked plywood or stacked wood pieces, and i might add a long handle to tighten the jaws faster, similar handle is also on normal vises, so you think that handle will get in the way of some leather projects?
Yes, even the knobs that I put are in the way for some projects (if the thread is very long).
I'm planning a 2.0 version that has no knobs and a couple of improvements to be more efficient.
@@LTMS oh then ill hold on till you release it :0
@@vcommandarv5916 it won't be very soon, I recommend you to continue with your project, this version also works very well, I use it all the time
Hi this is a really nice video can you please tell me what 3d software you are using in the start of this video thanks Howie.
Hi, thanks for the appreciation, I used 3ds max + vray render
И очень маленький заводик сбацал маленький настольный пони.Ну,как вышло.
маленькая настольная пони для отличных результатов
Very good job!!... could you please share the pattern so I can make my own?...
Thank you. Link for download is in the first comment answer
Hi LTMS, I downloaded the pattern a couple of days ago, but can't find it on my computer. Can you send it to me again or tell me the name of the file to search for please? thanks very much
The file name is "stitching pony template", i just send you a copy at your email in case you don't find it in your computer.
Thank you
😃😃
I'm glad you liked it
Great job man! Congratulations on the result. What are the two software that appear at the beginning of the video?
Hey, thanks a lot for your appreciation. The software is 3D studio max and Vray render
Great video dude!
What size of screw did you use?
Thanks for the appreciation.
I used a threaded rods 8mm diameter and 10 cm long for the clamp leg, with an "insert nuts" or "hexagon socket for wood" at the end. Other bolts are 6 mm diameter 6 cm long
hiHi, i"m John Edmunds & i paid a reasonable fee however i can only find the drawings but no measuements , nut /bolt size or instructions, where do i find that information. Thanks in advance.
I reloaded a new file at the same link. It is a 5-page pdf with measurements and description of the threaded rod I used.
As for the instructions, you have a 15-minute video of the process to assemble it above.
What's the name and measurements of the metal hardware you used?
I used a threaded rods 8mm diameter and 10 cm long for the clamp leg, with an "insert nuts" or "hexagon socket for wood" at the end. Other bolts are 6 mm diameter 6 cm long
@@LTMS thanks! And what's the size of the spring you used?
@@GamingKing-ql6fq is 1 cm diameter, but it doesn't matter too much, any spring who fit around the bolt will be fine
chẳng có gì là hay ho cả.phí công làm mà công dụng chẳng có gì.
Sorry but the translator doesn't help, I don't get it.
Where can you buy this device ?
Many leather accessories stores sell them online, there are different types.
I built mine.
@@LTMS I would like one like yours. Can you give me an address or a link where I can find one? Can't make one?
@@LTMS I would like one like yours, can you make one ?
@@vicvic7678 Google search "stitching pony shopping".... there are a lot similar to mine.
I make stuff for fun, not for selling, sorry
Where can I download the pattern?
If you read info box...
There's a link there
Nice... but the pattern will not help to make it... you don't show in the video how the tricky parts are done, instead of that you spend long minutes to show things we can all figure out how to do : gluing leather, applying oil or varnish, cutting pieces of wood.
When I made the video I didn't have in mind to teach how to build one or to make a template, I prepared it later because many requested it, and I tried to make it as precise as possible.
Once the pieces have been cut, there is a pin to be inserted at the base of the jaw and then assembly is quite intuitive.
What parts do you find difficult? I will try to help you.
IE THE EMBEDDED steel nut must not work loose !
As I told you in the other comment, after 3 years I have not encountered any problems, and not even the people who downloaded the template have reported any malfunctions...
it says wrong and won't download :(
I will check it later, in case I will give you another link (it should work, there are already over 100 downloads)
@@LTMS thank you :)
Her of me bazetta game to Ward
Sorry, I don't get it (not even the translator)
My adventure with woodworking started with woodglut plans.
Nice journey?
