    Hope this helps. Just keep in mind that fry screaming is hard to learn, and there are fundamental skills needed to make learning this easier. If you still struggle with it, just try practicing singing and vocal projection for a few weeks, and then try again after you have better control over the laryngeal muscles.

      You can use a low fry scream and add just enough diaphragm compression and having the right about of projection but trying to keep it voiceless at the same time will have your false cords activate and phonate similarly to your real vocal cords. To get this sound I regularly practice Tuvan throat singing and tongue and mouth placement to get the right sound I'm going for with the technique.

    Maaan I wish a vid like this had been around back on the day, because this exact technique is what helped me figure out how to scream, and it's so cool that I can basically practice anywhere, while walking to or from uni in a noisy place, while driving, when I sigh, it's so versatile. I hope this video helps many, thank you so much for making it 🙏

      Yea soft fry helps you figure out the right positioning to produce the distortion, but in order to make it loud, you have to learn to belt, and try to enter the soft fry positioning while belting.

    Dude. The first exercise was so good. It actually got me to nail the fry from nothing. One exercise I’ve been doing is alternating between exhaling and frying. So inhale, exhale, inhale, fry, repeat. I’ve also been alternating vowels, like Yo, Yee, Ya, Yo, Yee, Yu, Ya, Yip, Yaw, Yow, Yuuuiiiiiiuuuuuaaaaaa type thing. Also with R, like Ro, Ra, Rii, Rey, Ru, etc. Also my voice doesn’t hurt lol.

Well, now I'm 35 and I can do the same sound but feel the erosion of my throat and sometimes even pain. Fun part is dickie allen of infant annihilator in a kardovox interview mentioned the "hybrid" where you are doing fry and false chord at the same time (mind blown). Then if you think of the different areas of resonance that you usually get by thinking of different syllables (ex. "ooo" or "yee"), apparently some of those different areas can resonate AT THE SAME TIME. I think that is how you get a sound like this: ua-cam.com/users/shortsUMZ1tqojC2Q
      he stars out with the "ooo" but then you see his nose scrunch up a bit like people do when they get a high; I think his sinus cavity is resonating to get the "roar" sound. So many interesting techniques and it's crazy how deep it goes combining them in unique ways. You are lucky all of these videos are available today... I know back when I first started to try to learn there was nothing. You're basically at the point I am now and I'm a grown ass man! XD
      Keep working on it a little every day and you will be an amazing vocalist. =)

    Haha shit can't believe I'm typing this off my own words and fingers, this video indirectly helped me realise how it should feel like in my throat. It's such a specific unusual sensation that trial and error will be needed, the catch 33 being not knowing which is the right way and needing practice to fully develop the necessary parts to engage while not messing your throat up. But thanks so much. Really underestimated how much 'diaphragm' push is actually needed, took me a good 3 years to piece it together.

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Рік тому +1

      yep the biggest reason why people have trouble with fry screaming is because its the first vocal style they try to learn. if you have no experience practicing singing or even FC screaming then its just not going to make sense. You wont have adequate muscle coordination or sensory awareness of what you are doing with your vocal cords in relation to what you are trying to do.

    So I've been doing vocals for over 12 years now and I'm trying to go back and refine things and learn different techniques that I never properly learned. Over the years I was only able to do fry vocals as that hybrid scream mixed with false chord. So whenever I try to do the soft fry and add the little bit of tension I kinda just slip into a false chord type of sound and I don't know how to fix that..

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Рік тому +2

      I used to have the same issue because I initially spend two years learning FC screaming before learning fry. even till this day, I feel way more natural performing FC screams than fry screams. The way I improved it though was by not practicing FC screaming for a few weeks and only focusing on fry. eventually, when I started practicing both techniques in the same practice session, I would warm up and start with my fry screams for 15 to 20 minutes before warming up my false cords. warming up my false cords first would always make me want to naturally slip into using my FC’s even when I was trying to do fry screams.

      Hey man. So this is referred to as "inhale screams". There is a bit of debate on the safety of inhale screams among the metal vocals community. I personally stay away from them, because I agree with the safety concerns. Learning to properly fry scream is very difficulty but don't give up. I have a video titled "fry screaming exercises to make learning easier". I would recommend practicing those exercises for a few weeks and then attempt to produce the distortion while exhaling, after you have built up some better control over your true cords. Hope this helps.

      It could be due to many reasons such as pushing more air than needed, improper technique with vocal cord positioning, living in an area with low humidity. I would need more info to properly assess. You can email me a recording if you would like to at Screamtheoryvocalcoaching@gmail.com.
      You can also try drinking water throughout the day (not just all at once right before practicing), avoiding heavy caffeine intake (1 or 2 cups of coffee is typically fine), and doing some cardio exercise 15-20 mins a day (increasing heart rate promotes blood flow to the vocal cords and hydrates them more effectively).

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Рік тому +2

      active tension is the tension produced by muscle contraction, where as passive tension is tension produced by the elastic stretching of muscles, ligaments, or tendons. this is what I mean about the fine motor control aspect. The reason why you only feel 0-100 in terms of muscle activation is due to lack of motor
      control. Think of a novice piano player, who is trying hit certain keys, but they either undershoots, or overshoots the key. with practice, they eventually develop the muscle control to contract their muscles with just the right amount of force needed to hit the keys they want. too much force causes overshooting, too little force causes undershooting. this is normal for beginners of any complex motor skill to experience. We can either turn the muscle on to 100%, or turn it off at 0%. it takes practice to be able to dial in the force production of a muscle to generate a precise amount of force, somewhere between 0-100%

      From what you are saying, it sounds like you have figured out how to produce the distortion using the correct positioning, but you are unable to project it or make it sound powerful. This is a normal step in learning to fry scream that most people experience. To fry scream properly, you need to be able to produce the distortion sound, while simultaneously performing a shout or yell, supporting it with your airflow. The vocal cords need to be vibrating while in the fry screaming positioning. That is what makes it sound loud and powerful, because that is how the voice works. I have a video with some exercises to help with this. ua-cam.com/video/Ry4Fav-xM40/v-deo.html

      check out my 2023 fry tutorial. the biggest thing people get wrong is not learning how to belt, or project their voice. If you can do soft fry, thats the positioning element. Now you have to learn to project your voice, or belt, and then slip into the soft fry positioning while simultaneously keeping your true cords vibrating. The only way a fry scream becomes loud and powerful is the same way that singers make their voice sound “strong”.

      That can happen in some people initially when learning false cord screaming, due to turbulent air flow in the space between the false cords and the true cords. It definitely should not be happening with fry screaming. Email me a recording and I can give you feedback. Screamtheoryvocalcoaching@gmail.com

    Ok, but you're making those fry's quieter than speech. What when you want to add them to your singing?

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Рік тому

      You need to project your voice like belting or singing with power and then try to slip into the fry positioning while simultaneously keeping your true cords vibrating. The loudness comes from your true cords vibrating how they normally would when singing with projection. Practicing soft fry like this helps you figure out the positioning in a low intensity way. Just keep in mind that soft fry typically involves a little bit more tension in the vocal cords. The transition from belting to fry screaming, will feel a little more subtle, and you shouldn’t feel as much tension in the true cords as you would when doing soft fry.

      spend some time practicing singing. trying to hit different notes will give you the ability to finely control your true cords. Fry screaming requires precise control over your true cords and sensory awareness of how you are positioning them. Without that level of control its going to be like stabbing in the dark.

      fry screaming shouldn’t cause any pain at all with proper technique. if this is the first vocal technique you are trying to learn, I recommend first practicing clean singing or false cord screaming for a few months, then try to learn fry. there are certain foundational things you need in order to do it correctly as well as properly conditioned to vocal cords to handle the forces of fry screaming..

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  4 місяці тому

      When I was 16, I nearly ruined my voice trying to learn to fry scream. So I instead spent 2 years practicing false cord screaming and revisited fry screaming, and I got it but only after I had built up some motor control over my true cords. If you are really having a hard time learning it, then I would recommend seeking private lessons to have someone guide you through it in real time. I also have another video titled “fry screaming exercises to make learning easier”. I recommend practicing those exercises for a few weeks and then trying again. every single person who has trouble with frying screaming has almost the exact same issues. they do not have the foundational skills that help you figure out the right positioning. It takes really fine control over how you position your true cords. The muscles are so small and most people can’t even feel them contract, unless they have a lot of experience practicing singing.

  • @Delaney15
    @Delaney15 Рік тому

    doesnt work

    • @Scream-Theory
      @Scream-Theory  Рік тому

      One of the biggest reasons why people have trouble with fry screaming is because it requires a great deal of motor control over the laryngeal and vocal muscles. I recommend spending a few weeks practicing soft singing, and belting. Then come back and try learning fry screaming again. We need the ability to contract the vocalis, and thyroarytenoid muscles with just enough force. Without motor control, it’s an all or nothing contraction. this goes for any muscle performing a complex task. In a beginner, they can either turn the muscle on to 100%, or off at 0%. We need the ability to contract the muscles with just enough force to generate around 30 to 60% of maximum tension.
