We would like to do more events but the absolute time suck it is to throw them together is just soul sucking. The good thing this one is in the bank so we can bring it back every few months.
The only way that I know to see if the air brakes are out on the Sabre is the slider on the Throttle - but you have to turn the nice Pilot model off :). There is a noticeable sound difference too.
The fact that the Sabre's landing gears get borked so easily can be somewhat ameliorated by the fact that it can do a belly landing fairly reliably, making it pretty easy to RTB and switch planes without losing the airframe
the mig15 does have an ejection seat. you need to depressurize the cockpit, (colorful twisty thing on the right) open the cockpit, then press ctrl e 3 times. something is probably not modeled properly but that's how you do it in dcs.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy IDK if its something new, but i ejected plenty times without depressurizing a few years back when there was a korean war server running
glad to support u dude, ur legit the first youtuber ive ever done the membership thing with. Ur a solid content creator playing a niche game that i love so im happy to give some spare change every month!
I enjoyed this style of video from you. The casual conversation was nice. I haven't flown ECW in a very long time but I hopped on board for this event and even spent a few nights ahead of the event practicing dogfights with my friend. I would like to see this return with some balance changes and better anti-air at airbases like you mentioned. I'm looking forward to a helo Cyprus special event but I can't think of any other special events that would be good.
In the sabre, you’ll see a red spring loaded hydraulic source switch to reset them once you have the throttle above 45% rpm. This moved you from your alternate hydraulic reservoir to your main. You might get more authority there, but as you get to the high subsonic region you will still get compressibility and inputs will feel sluggish. You’ll also be able to reduce smoke by keeping the RPMs between the green bands on the guage - 100% throttle will make it go smoky as you are effectively overtemping the engine. The smoke is still there at power, but it’s not as bad as you show here. You’ll still find using the airbrakes advisable during landing as you’ve surely found the throttle response a little underwhelming at the lower rpm range - having the airbrakes on allow you to land at higher RPMs which give you better throttle response on landing. Incidentally, this also works OK on the A4 :)
What’s this in relation to? I found it an absolute joy to land tbh, generally felt the airspeed was quite easy to gauge by eye and I was able to ease off the throttle progressively and just land without any power on at all. Actually found myself closing the airbrake to prolong my glide slope to stop myself slowing too quickly without the power on and adjusting AOA slightly to adjust speed once over the runway threshold.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy if you’ve found a landing methods that works, cool - ignore me. That was more aimed at your observations about the Sabre’s dirty smoke; adjusting the throttle to keep the exhaust gas temperature and engine RPM in the green bands will minimise the dirty black smoke. The large light in the upper centre panel that says “alternate on” is talking about one of your 3 hydraulic sources. Normal/Primary, Alternate, and Utility. The Alternate is not quite as powerful as the primary and will give you just a little more authority than the alternate, and you can reset to normal with a spring loaded red switch down at your left leg (below the gun selection dial). You reset it once your throttle is above 45%. It’s been a while since I played with the sabre, but I recall the pitot heater switch being near the gear indicators and the wing tank selectors
I flew the P47 for about an hour doing ground pounding but only saw one other plane (a friendly p47) the whole time. Pretty much the whole force was just in a dog fight over shayrat the whole time i was on from what I gathered over the radio.
With how the EWR system works, if you measure the distance between the dogfight hotspots and the nearest enemy airbase and then stay at least that far from all parts of the path between the two, you might as well be invisible lol
I had a blast during the event. I flew the 109 with a good amount of success. I can't wait for the Mig 17. I'm such a big fan of those early jets. Imo the 15 and the 86 don't have a high enough degree of fidelity. Sounds like the 17 will though, and that's why I play DCS personally. In that same vein wouldn't it be cool if the ejection seats were different for different jets? Zero zero for the planes that have one, and an old-school preforming seat dor the older aircraft.
I agree about the F-86 feeling like an FC3….but I wonder if it was just really that simple to start up and operate. I can’t fly the Mig-15. I constantly end up plowing into the ground with frozen flight control due to compression. Plus, the low velocity cannons are tough to hit with
Re: smoky Sabre vs clean 15 - US documents from the 60s assessing the MiG-21 describe it as "smokeless", which is a pretty fair assessment compared to anything running a J79 (let alone a pair like the Phantom) but would definitely seem counterintuitive to most people coming from more modern stuff. The MiG-29 is really the standout when it comes to engine smoke for Soviet birds in DCS, even the 19 isn't too bad and is mostly "smoky" because it has the two engines rather than one. Pitot heat in the 15 is very well hidden in the far right corner of the instrument panel, where the canopy rail blocks your line of sight to it unless you duck down a bit. In the Sabre I forget where it is offhand but I could find it pretty quick if I was trying to start the thing... I think it's the front left quarter panel near all the gear and landing lights and stuff? Sabre also needs the gun heat on if you're flying at any higher altitudes.
Haven’t run into any issues with gun heat, managed to find the MiG’s pitot yesterday and yeah, hidden is an understatement - under certain lighting you can’t see even if you know it’s there 😅 Sabre’s is comparatively easy to find, not sure how I missed it. Had an issue yesterday where the MiG’s compass was just frozen solid, is there a fix for that? Or avoid committing to something that causes it?
nice job and comparisons between the two, i only have the F86, i did play a bit, started off getting smashed then got some kills in the end. from the sabre perspective, the Mig15 is a VERY tough opponent. they can out climb and energy trap a sabre.
I felt that the Sabre held up against the MiG a lot better than I feel it should, maintains energy very well through climbs and high G turns - like you can literally hold yourself on the edge of black out basically forever through a flat rate because it won’t slow down - and often managed to catch 15s without even using full throttle and was still able to yo-yo up away from their guns and back down after an overshoot. I struggled more in the 15 to keep with Sabres than I did in the Sabre with 15s, something about the drag profile or maybe the Sabre’s weight feels off based on the age old “perfectly matched” debate you always hear with these things.
I was reluctant to move to standalone too, espec at the early time the $ rate made it of no benefit. What made me switch though, is my kids also play my many other steam games with Family Sharing.....if I then put DCS Steam on I'd be nagged at by kids for stopping a game.....bind to standalone, job done - the updater I find no slower than steam, on a 600mbps connection
I only have one PC and whilst my gf does use my account to play Sims and Planet Coaster, I can’t play anything at the same time anyway - so for now at least that’s not an issue. Jealous of your connection, I’m lucky to see 30 down and 5 up, videos get uploaded overnight, and sometimes through most of the following day.
haha Sims for other half too in the front room. Treat yourself with some new upgrades so you can relegate the parts to a 2nd pc dedicated for Sims :) Three 5g broadband - 20quid per month so a decent bargain - speeds fluctuate, up to a gig, sometimes as low as 200, 600 about average, though writing to disk on diminishing returns above that. But its possible more stable than Virgin has been recently with outages. However I'm lucky enough to live near a 5g tower (or unlucky for alien invasion) @@Bullet4MyEnemy
Yeah I’ve been looking at upgrading my BTBroadband to the one that uses EE’s 5G coverage to top up the speeds. My phone gets about 300mbs on average and the mast is literally 300 yards up the road, only recently got fibre cables installed on the street otherwise I’d have gone for it when I moved in.
