I know u didn’t get urs fixed bro but ur video is for one the only one that had the information I needed. I have a suburban but the calibration is the same process apparently I’ve been sitting out in the pouring down rain for hours trying to get mine to close all the way. Ur video was straight to the point. That’s a first from anyone on UA-cam. Ur the man.
I did get it working a couple days after posting the video. I put an update in the video description but nobody ever sees it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My way worked better than the 'factory approved' method. :) I'm glad the video helped though. :D
Thank you for the instructions, and just in case someone still struggling with this problem what worked out for me is after performing the calibration process i adjusted the glass itself as it has 4 screws that connects it to the assembly. You can loosen them and move the glass up and down.
I have the same issue after rebuilding/repairing. It was impossible for me to know the correct placement of the trolleys since mine broke while being opened, and they kept travelling for a second or so as I still had the button pressed momentarily. Then I attempted to close it not realizing it was completely broken... When I finished the rebuild, I set the trolleys and timing manually to a position that seemed fully closed, having had manipulated manually with the cables. Finished assembly (riveted back together), mounted, then placed the glass in, put screws in loosely, pushed to maximum height (screw adjustment slots), then tightened the 4 screws. Then ran the operations several times with the IDENTICAL results you had... About a half inch too low, with screws/glass assembly already set at maximum height. But... I did not receive the same Calibration instructions with my kit off eBay. Nothing. So I really appreciate your video and hope it works for me... But I am assuming it will not work. First thing in the morning, I will run through the Calibration test. Hopefully with your results, it might take several recalibrations? Maybe it only minutely adjusts travel a small amount each time, like a Fine tuning adjustment? Don't know. I'm sure going to try before pulling it back out to look at it closely again. I was planning on taking the glass out, and having someone run it through the opening process several times to watch from a step ladder and see how the trolley moves. I'm also thinking that if you unscrew the motor letting the drive gear drop free from the trolley screw cables, that you might be able to manually push the glass up into position, have someone hold it in place, then reinsert the motor/drive gear back into place. Then rerun the Calibration process. I don't know. But this video gets me one step closer than I was last night.
We just had the same issue with our new to us Yukon. Same gap. We took the ceiling out. Found the motor but couldn't fnd the drillbit holes you were referring to. But luckily, but taking it apart, something loosened and the glass popped up and finally lined up. Crazy. We didn't want to chance it again since we never really figured out what was wrong, so we disabled the button!! You video in a round about way helped us. Thanks for making it!
I had the same issue after repairing my sunroof assembly from the Sunroof Doctor. My particular situation was that I forgot to raise the tabs that were required to be pressed down to remove the slider assemblies. Those tabs stop the slider assembly from sliding too far back. if they are not lifted back into place after re-installation, the sliders can slide WAY back, and when you program the motor (holding the reverse button down for 10 seconds) it will program it from a place that is too far back, and stop short when trying to close. Not sure if you had to depress those (metal, so you have to depress with a hammer, and raise with a screwdriver) or not when you replaced whatever it is that you replaced. When I went back and raised those tabs, re-programmed/initialized the sunroof motor, it worked perfectly.
OMG!!!! Thank you soooooooooo much for posting this vid. I was pulling my hair out trying to fix this damn sunroof when I ran across this video. I followed the steps, and voila, it actually reset the sunroof, it now operates flawlessly. I am actually amazed that it worked. I couldn't even jump it shut, and I know what I am doing. The symptoms before it stopped were lagging or stuttering roof closure and opening. This fixed it all and it works like new. Kudos to you man, big 5 star thumbs up!!!!
I had the same issue, but with a different car. I loosened the 4 bolts that held the sunroof glass in place. Then I used my hand to push up the sun roof glass as I tightened the bolts back with my other hand. Bam! The gap was gone.
Mine's an Envoy XUV and glass tilt problem looks the opposite of yours--I didn't try the calibration instructions, I just read the procedure from your video. Mine the track may have debris from my roof shingles (40+ yrs old) on windy days--I find pieces some as small as 1/4" or less on the wiper blades or cowl or belt weatherstrip, etc. When you step on the running boards and look at the sunroof, it looks like it needs to come about another 1/2" at the front; at the rear, the top of the back of the glass it touching the underside of the opening. It seems to need to come forward and up. When I open it part way, it seems like I can grab the glass and wiggle it for/backwards about that half inch at least on the drivers side. I found all this out when I took it to an automatic car wash with a "no-touch" hi-pressure spray and had water dripping when it got to the blow-off stage near the end. With a snowstorm coming within 48 hours and no place to work on it, I ran some Gorilla duct tape across the front as a temporary fix; it has about 18 inches of snow on it now...
With the sunroof closed hold the closed button down for 10-15 seconds the sunroof will move up to closed position. Then go full vent then full open. After the battery is disconnected for certain period of time The switch and motor has to be recalibrated. After it is fully calibrated you'll have to reset the guide stops. For that go to full vent on sunroof then let go. Then hold full vent for 5 seconds go to full open to full vent position seven times holding the switch for each direction. Hopefully this works for you. I had a very similar problem on mine. It was not going to the full close position as it looks yours is not either. I did the steps and mine and it works perfectly now. Hopefully this works.
I believe @ the point when came closed position you should power it to where you want it set as closed disconnect battery reconnect battery & go thru process again as to reprogram so knows where its closed position is
I have read the update you made and understood it except when you used drill bit after unscrewing the motor from the roof. Did you use drill bit to pull one line further forward to adjust like the the other side which make a starting point for the motor to do it. My goodness I have same issue with my 2016 Chevy equinox. Please help provide more about manual calibrations. The line by the driver side is not coming forward as much as the other side which makes the driver side low.
If I'm understanding what you're saying, yes, the drill bit was used to 'lock' the sunroof in the fully closed position, so I could get the motor in it's fully closed position before marrying them back together.
@@Scott_G thanks. so all the steps you did was on new sunroof motor or it was on your old one? Mine is sliding back and forth up and down but leaves same space when tilt down. It is nerve racking.
@@khonavqary2372 It was all on the old motor. I didn't have to replace it. The only parts that were broken on mine was the track that it ran on. Sounds like your calibration is just off like mine was. Let the motor get to what it thinks is the fully closed position, leave it plugged in to power, but disconnect it from the gear, manually set the sunroof to the closed position using the 1/8" holes, then reattach the motor gears. You should be all set.
@@Scott_G my apologies if this bothers you. But I tried it that way and it make noises when I try to open and stuck doing nothing. And now not all buttons work in order. If I hit up maybe does nothing same for down. Or maybe if I hit open or close nothing to happen. It kinda switches between up/down and slide forward/backwards functions. Do you think something might be broken within the rails as it happens to yours. Everything has been loose for a week :( headliners … please shoot another suggestion. Thanks
The sunroof button has three positions. Forward backwards and the center to bring the sunroof up at the rear position. With the sunroof closed press the center button the roof will open all the way at the rear. Press/tap the center button again till the sunroof adjusts to be level were you want it. Easy fix.
No apologies necessary. That was an excellent video. I am having to redo my 08 escalade sunroof. The worst part of it all has been watching most of the videos on youtube to get an idea of what to do. They are annoying and hard to watch.
The video did a weird stabilization thing. This wasn't really ever meant for UA-cam so much as something to post on the forum. Did you read the description? I got it figured out like 2 days later.

My back sunroof button in the back won't click or do anything you open. Any idea what could it be? Please anyone. The land rover dealer charges more than anything.

I'd have some similar problems. On my Benz I burned some fuses to the lighter plug inside car and the trunk at the point I'd think my sunroof when crazy.
Yeah, I checked the glass alignment. To finally fix the problem, I had to run the motor to where it thought the stop point was, disconnect it, manually realign the panel using the little drill bit holes, and then reconnect the motor. I know that isn't the way it's supposed to work, but it was the only thing that did work for me.
Most people don,t understand with some of these reset procedures that once it starts moving DO NOT remove your finger from the button until it cycles through all of its functions . If you stop halfway you will need to start all over again . With 40 years of sunroof installation and repairs there are lots of different methods to reset sunroofs , some are as simple as holding your finger on the forward position button until you feel a pulse effect and thats it . Then some of the BMW's require holding the tilt button for up to 60 seconds and the roof will take off and cycle through its various movements and again you MUST NOT remove your finger until it comes to a stop on its own
I didn't, that's why I took the video, to show that I was doing it EXACTLY as the instructions said. Either way, It's been fixed for a long time now. Thanks though.
@@mrmsbhvn If it doesn,t go up into the vent position then there is something probably broken or bent which is preventing it from going up . So there is that at least. Just afraid to operate it any more for fear of it getting worse.
@@mrmsbhvn It sounds like there may be a problem with the actual mechanism itself , I might ask did you replace the track mechanisms because if you did then I would suggest that one side is further forward than the other putting it out of position as one side is closing while the other one is slightly behind the other causing it to sit up . Now you might be able to line them up without puling the whole roof out , I would suggest just remove the glass then remove the motor . once you have done that make sure both tracks mechanisms on both sides are lined by manually pushing them forward as far as they can go then refit glass and motor and see how that goes .
