    Today on "Cars and Go Fast" with Tech Review by Irdi, we show you how to calibrate the sunroof on a 2014 Dodge Charger. This process translates to other Chrysler products like the Challenger, 300, and some other vehicles in the lineup. The directions on the process for the Chrysler Sunroof Calibration are listed below as well. So please LIKE, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE to get more tips and videos on "Cars and Go Fast".
    STANDARD PROCEDURE
    SUNROOF POSITION CALIBRATION
    Let's begin:
    Press the power sunroof switch (Open, Closed, and Vent). If no movement occurs when either the open switch or closed switch is pressed, but the system does move when the vent button is pressed and held, the system is not calibrated. Perform the following procedure to position calibrate the power sunroof system.
    1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
    2. Press the vent button on the power sunroof switch and hold until the sunroof glass panel has moved to the full vent position and the motor movement has stopped for at least 1 second.
    3. Press the close switch on the power sunroof switch and hold for a moment (at least 100ms) and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full close position. If the sunroof glass panel does not return to the full close position, refer to the appropriate diagnostic information for full system diagnosis.
    4. Verify proper system operation.
    EXCESSIVE FORCE LIMITATION (EFL) CALIBRATION
    NOTE: Verify the battery is in good condition prior to performing this procedure. Do not leave the vehicle on
    a battery charger while performing this procedure. If the voltage at the sunroof motor/module drops below
    11 volts or exceeds 15 volts at anytime while this procedure is being performed, the Excessive Force Limitation
    (EFL) function will not be properly calibrated.
    1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
    2. Press the vent button on the power sunroof switch and hold until the sunroof glass panel has moved to the full vent position and the motor movement has stopped for at least 1 second.
    3. Press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. This will be considered the first sunroof closed position in a series of four sunroof closes.
    4. Press the vent button on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should move to the full vent position. After the sunroof motor/module has stopped, press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. This will be considered the second sunroof closed position in a series of four sunroof closes.
    5. Continue to move the sunroof glass to the “vent” then “closed” positions two more times so that the sunroof glass has moved to the closed position a total of four times starting with the first sunroof close in step 3.
    6. Press the open position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full open position.
    7. Press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. This will be considered the first sunroof closed position in a series of five sunroof closes.
    8. Press the open position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should move to the full open position. After the sunroof motor/module has stopped, press the close position on the power sunroof switch and release. The sunroof glass panel should continue travel to the full closed position. Continue to move the sunroof glass to the “open” then “closed” position four more times so that the sunroof glass has
    moved to the closed position a total of five times starting with the first sunroof close in step 7.
    Verify proper EFL calibration by placing a standard pencil at the front of the sunroof and then moving the
    sunroof to the full closed position. The sunroof should reverse direction upon contact without damage to
    the pencil.

    Same process for my 2017 Ram 1500. Noticed my sunroof was misaligned and tried to manually adjust it with the screws. It looked flush and then I opened it and closed it. It reverted right back to the rear sitting too low. Did this calibration and then it was sitting too high from where I had manually adjusted it. Pulled it back down with the screws and now my sunroof appears to be well sealed. No more wind noise and hopefully no more condensation in the morning.

    Just wanted to let you know that those instructions are not correct to re-calibrate the sunroof for 2011-2018 Charger. The correct procedure to re-calibrate is:
    1.)set ignition to ACCESSORY or start engine.
    2.)press and hold the CLOSE switch until glass is fully closed, release switch.
    3.)press and hold the CLOSE switch again. After 10 seconds the motor will activate and glass will move into the vent position then stall and stop motion.
    4.)release the CLOSE switch, then press and hold it again within 5 seconds, do not release switch.
    5.)while sunroof CLOSE switch is held the sunroof glass will move to the fully closed position, then to the fully opened position and then fully closed again.
    6.)once all sunroof motion has stopped release the CLOSE switch, sunroof is re-calibrated.
    If the switch is released prior to the sunroof completing all operations described the entire procedure must be repeated. This will fix issues like automatic open/close (press & release switch) not working or the glass reversing back open when you are trying to close it. This will work on the standard sunroof for 2011-2018 Grand Cherokee & Durango also (not panoramic).

    My sunroof on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee is stuck open just like in this video. Me and a friend were able to force it closed by squeezing the window from the top and bottom and pushing forward while I was pushing the switch forward. I'm afraid to open it again for fear it will not close it was very hard to close it the way we did. If I used your suggestions to close and recalibrate I don't understand how when I push the vent button will the sunroof go into the vent position when it is stuck open the way it is. It was almost as if something was jammed and the tracks preventing the sunroof to close all the way. Any suggestions with my situation it's a shame that I'm afraid to open my sunroof again for fear of it not closing. I was afraid the glass was going to break with all the pressure we were putting on it with our hands. We even sprayed WD-40 on the track to help with slide no I can still use it in the vent position because it will close up and down with ease but again I'm afraid to slide it back. Please help.

      On the older Chryslers, you will get better luck on disconnecting the Battery from the vehicle for about 20 minutes. The body control module will be reset, reinstituting the control of the sunroof. I would do that first, but also do that visual inspection the best you can with a dental mirror or auto mirror on a stick down the track once open. usually it's just hitting the sensor's impact resistance, and gets squirrely. Discharge the entire system first. The newer Chryslers have a different setup on function.

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  3 місяці тому

      You can try discharging the vehicle(actually the body controller) by disconnecting the battery for around 5 minutes or longer. That would be where I would start first. They get into these glitches after some time. There will be a lot of new things that will happen like throttle response comes back and so forth. Your uconnect may take a few minutes to reset itself as well.

    I tried what you wrote on my 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We bought it used. When the sun roof closes, I can still look up from my seat and there is a crack where I can see light. When I get out and look at the roof, the rear part of the glass is about a quarter inch higher than the rest of the roof. The sunroof does not seem to get recalibrated. What do you suggest?

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  10 місяців тому

      Pull the battery for 5 minutes. Especially the ground. Restart the process. You'll have to de-energize the whole vehicle and that can usually be a good start to recalibrating today's vehicles with so many body controller settings.

    • @TechReviewbyIrdi
      @TechReviewbyIrdi  2 роки тому

      Try the battery trick. You must disconnect both terminals to discharge the system fully and at least 10 minutes to be sure. I recently had the same issue again. It works if the body controller(the chargers is passenger right foot area) is all good and it's been updated during service intervals. All cars need to see a dealer once in a while. Software and firmware are pretty much a thing now a days. Updates are constantly being performed in the auto industry now. The slide back is a different story. It's only a physical shield, no electronics. It must be catching on the slide rails somehow. That one is going to have to be looked at. If there is a physical issue, then disassembly may be required. The sunroof system can be disassembled. But make sure everything is lined up right if you go that route.

      I've seen that happen. Try unhooking the battery for at least 20-40 minutes. The tech bulletin states that the charge should always be reset first from the battery. If that does not work, it can be the module or the switch itself. The switch doesn't last forever either. We had replaced a few as well.

There as been firmware updates depending the the year and if it was caught. I have had several techs tell me they remedied it with pulling the battery and reconnecting after 20 minute. But make sure it's closed fulling first. Then try the process. If it continues, then the dpst switch in the overhead may be the issue.

      Is it stuck? And did it exceed the track bars?

      I see. The glass has two running sidewalls underneath(fixed to the glass bottom), they slide and assist up when back. They may be grooved out a bit. But there are two leveraging springs like long tweezers that push it up as well. If it's closing, and yet the back is not up and sealed, there will be more that happens later, and it will either lock in place anywhere along the track or is breaks or slants sideways depending on what starts to give. Sounds like its very early in the stages. You have top take the headliner out to be neat about things. Or just pop down the center area around the inside ring by grasping the headliner edges and pull down slowly. You can access some screws from the top with it fully open, but it needs to be closed to actually troubleshoot it. Disconnect the cars battery, wait about 10 minutes. Reconnect. Try it again. That's the first step. Vent mode can be stall if it's a positioning issue. Hit up a reply when you try it. Lot's of folks do the positive only, but do them both. You'll want the body controller to reset with both positive and negative disconnected. You'll also see the throttle will relearn as well as the driving. Everything gets reset and feels peppy.
