This is a fantastic video. I really appreciate you going through all the effort to explain this whole mechanism in such a clear and concise way to make it very easy to understand. Great job. I do have one question that wasnt entirely clear. If somehow, the 2 cables become out of sync, not allowing your sunroof to close properly, (glass twisted) how does one go about getting it sit in its proper placement to function properly. Do you remove the gear on the motor that moves both sides, postion the glass manually and return the gear?

I'm old enough to remember when "sunroof" specifically meant only the one that flips up to vent (or often can be removed entirely on a sunny day), and "moonroof" meant one that slid into the roof.
I opened our sun roof for the first time this year. When I tried to close it stopped and reversed to the fully open position. I eventually closed it by pressing the switch momentarily at 1/2 second intervals until it returned to the closed position. Good thing it didn't start to rain. I will look at it again on the next sunny day. When we bought this previously owned vehicule they sold us a service contract that would pay for any major repairs. The roof has been problematic since we got it. We asked for an estimate but the insurance company would not pay for it because it required the remplacement of the tracks which they considered a wear and tear thing like brakes. I thought it could be some sort of sensor or cpu/logic thing. We have a Jeep Renegade 2015.Thanks for the video. It's good to know the components and mechanics that are involved. I'll try that reset thing.

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with moonroof and it will raise up in the vent position and sometimes will retract but not all the way and also I will do the same thing when trying to close it, so thank you for showing in this video how it can be closed manually. Are there any parts or pieces of plastic that can break off in the track that would cause this or should I troubleshoot the switch and motor first for weak or failing parts? I keep the track and drains clean, but have not been able to as much since I have been having the issue opening and closing. (By the way a trick someone taught me that you may already know to clean the drains all the way down the pillars on each front corner is to use heavy duty weed eater string.) Also my moon roof does not retract into the roof itself it actually raises up and goes backwards above the roof at an angle when open, which brings me to my second question is this kind of sun/moon roof the same type of design and mechanisms as you described in this video or is it different?
