  • Chiapas is known to one of the most diverse states in all of Mexico, with a high concentration of Mayans. Within the Mayans, there are multiple groups - the Tzeltal, Choj, and so on.
Today, we're heading to a small village in Chiapas called Zinacantan, that's a Tzotzil speaking Mayan village. Each village in Chiapas has their own specialization, and Zinacantan is known for producing flowers in small farms all throughout the village. These flowers are exported all throughout Mexico and the world.
As we explore Zinacantan, we dive deeper into the lives of Juanita, a local who has grown up and spent her entire life in the village. We'll learn about her flower business, culture, religion, and other fascinating things about the Mayan Tzotzil culture.
So, join me on this adventure...

Thank you for this video! I am a floral designer from San Francisco CA returning o San Cris soon. I want to find local sources for flowers to support the indigenous communities. My other cneed will be floral hardgoods, IE(tools wires vases etc) i've been to a few mercados out side of centro and very limited resources. I am always open to alternative ways of finding resources. TY again! :)

Great to hear! Head to that same village next time you're in the area. They have a market at the town entrance almost everyday where locals sell their flowers. Easy to make contacts there.
