  • G’day everyone, I hope you’re all well! In this video we’ll be cutting some Andamooka white opal with a beautiful orange/red colours. Taking the time to carefully remove the sand, ensuring as larger stone as possible, aiming for a double sided stone, I hope you enjoy, thanks for your time, cheers. 🤪👍

Thought it was going to be thinned out to a doublet, but as usual, you were able to bring out a gorgeous stone and double-sided at that.

Clever to change the shape and the offcuts aren’t what I’d thought to do, but gave you a chance to cut some smalls, both beautifully done and lovely stone. Thanks for sharing

Hey Phil ,i know this doesn't have bugger all to do with this vid,but i just wanted to say thanks for all the info and knowledge you share. The reason is that ive just done my first opal inlay and it worked out well. It wasn't a big piece. I had a coffin pendant i had made from jasper a while ago and I thought id try and inlay a circle of opal into it,so i used an 8 mil diamond core drill to drill the groove and did the same process you used for your inlayed rings as you can imagine the bits were tiny but im quite happy with how it turned out for my first go at it. So I just thought I'd say thanks cause i wouldn't have known where to start if it wasn't for you.cheers mate

Hey Phil, sorry it took so long to reply but I've been out of reception up until today. Thanks for the reply. I'll send you some pics so you can have a look but fair warning I'm extremely green and still learning so try not to laugh lol. Cheers

Love the Andamooka crystal! nice job.
Watching how you strategize has really helped me. Appreciate the insight.
If you can say, would love to know how much a decent Andamooka parcel goes for.

Hey, mate. I've recently changed tactics. Basically, if there is a sense of problem with the op, it, almost instantly gets cut in half. That way you actually recover more material from 2 stones, usually the 2 stones are the same size as your projected estimate. For one Stone sorry I am using my voice to text. So some of the words are being silly.

I don’t usually like to mention $’s on the channel, but for the double sided one retail, I’d put no less than au400/ct, but its already sold it at a wholesale price. 🤪👍

What do you call a parcel of opal where most of it comes from Andamooka but some pieces don’t and they still look identical to all the others.
    You call it Randomooka !
