    yeah so he was basically perfect offensively that 99-00 season. He had a wet jumper, could create his own shot with ease or catch n shoot, ultra-clutch (about 4 maybe 5 game-winners that year), could power his way to the hoop or finesse, could cross you up, strong but quick, shot the 3 over 40%, an endless variety of finishes between finger rolls/reverse layups/floaters and dunks, could catch any alleyoop pass, back to the basket/facing the rim, vs point guards/vs forwards or over centers in the paint.

      Well said. I still marvel that only after 50 games his rookie year, he came back in year 2 with an excellent offensive game and unlimited range. He never was all about dunking exclusively. He knew, back in the prime athletic days, that he needed a well rounded offensive game.

      @@MaxaMillion711 Oh and I forgot: he could also jump over 7foot human beings that year.
      Yeah he was smart and mature enough to know not to rely on athleticism. Already had a polished game by year 2. I always thought he had easily more talent than Kobe, but not the heart. His 2000 season foretold a great, great career, but in fact he didn't have a great career, yes injuries but not just injuries.

      He was the most well rounded perimeter player at this time and I'll argue. His jumper got SO MUCH better from year 1 to 2 it was almost unbelievable n he took the league by storm. Everyone was talking about Vince carter

      Honestly imo this season and than 00/01 he was the best offensive player in the league . Tmac hadn't blossomed yet . Kobes range wasnt quite there yet. Vince's %s were ridiculous for the amount of shots he took . There wasnt one spot he couldn't splash you from . Had a great handle . Post up face up pull up fadeaway spot up pff the dribble it didnt matter . You were not going to stop him m only times he had bad games was when hr was just off

    When I started discovering NBA basketball, Carter was always my favourite player; he was already in the Nets (first years there) and the dunks were never the main reason why I love this player. Plays like this, his style, his extensions attacking the rim, his dribbling to create space... The flexibility, watching him moving as smooth as that... It's so much pleasure to watch him, basketball can't be played more elegant than this. Thanks for every bit of this, everytime I see clips like this one, I remember why I was so captivated by this player

      I especially liked the way the ball would enter the hoop with that spin that he gave it - it had a unique way of getting in, like it was on a rail towards the basket. He lost that after going to Orlando.

    I think this version of Vince Carter (the Raptors Carter) is the most Iconic. After he went to the Nets, something felt different...I can't explain. And after he joined up with the Magic, its marks the first year that I feel Vince has lost a step, and is quickly becoming a bench veteran (even though he isn't, but for some reason I feel this way)

    I always wondered why he didn't drive to the basket more often and why he never really got to improve his game a lot more from his second year to the time when he was 28-29? I mean he and Kobe were pretty close offensively, Vince was even more athletic and a better 3 point shooter but for some reason, Vince just didn't put that much effort in defense. Plus Vince was always clutch as hell, people forget that.

    • @MaxaMillion711
      @MaxaMillion711  2 роки тому +1

      To your first point about "improving his game a lot more" ... you're correct, he never turned out to be like Kobe or MJ, 2 of the top 10 all time arguably. Few players in NBA history reach those peaks. But I think he did improve in some aspects. He really worked on his shooting and improved his first 4 seasons to make that shot so lethal, when coming into the league he was not feared at all from the 3 point line. His passing also improved his first 4 seasons, and then even more once he got in New Jersey. And then I think he improved as a leader. In Toronto he was obviously younger and learning what comes with the spotlight. And in New Jersey, once Kidd left, VC embraced the leader/mentor role and surprised people with how much he'd grown in that aspect.
      VC's best seasons IMO were age 28,29, and 30 in New Jersey.
      Reg season #s: 25ppg 6rpg 4apg 1spg 1bpg
      Playoff #s: 26ppg 7rpg 5apg 2spg 1bpg
      And yes, like you mentioned, one of the most clutch players of his era. But no, he never excelled or worked on his defensive game.
      In the end, I never like to think this way: "Why cant he be a top 10 all time player". Because he simply wasnt. He wasnt wired like Kobe or MJ. "But he had all the tools". The most important tool is the mind. Kobe. and MJ were freaks when it comes to their mentality. VC wasn't built that way, you have to be born with that. He is who he is. One of the most talented players who ever played, and never was on a great team with another superstar scorer to help. In Toronto, the best player he played with was 2001 Antonio Davis. In New Jersey the best player he played with was a 33 year old Jason Kidd, a great leader and floor general, but the team still was riding Vince offensively for everything.
      I truly think a better organization, coach, and one other superstar (T-Mac!) would've taken his game to the next level. But I still hope people can appreciate him for who he was, and not "what could've been", cause thats just fantasy talk IMO. He is who he is.

      @@MaxaMillion711 Don't get me wrong I love Vince. But to me, he is what Mike Tyson is in boxing. A what-if. I forgot the man's name, Kobe's trainer, who said that Kobe was not as talented as Vince or Tmac but simply made a separation by working harder all the time on every single detail. With all that God has given him, Vince really should have been more. I mean, not even one scoring title. Not even one MVP. And I'm not bashing the man, I say it like it is unfair to his talent. The circumstances also helped a lot, no doubt. Had he and Kobe switched places and Vince played with Shaq...We all know history would be very different. The only real flaw might be stamina. Vince was born to be the GOAT. Simple.

    • @MaxaMillion711
      @MaxaMillion711  2 роки тому +1

      I truly feel the mental aspect and work ethic of Kobe and MJ is what separates them. You hear stories of them as a KIDS being that way. They were BORN with this edge. You hear stories of VC, as a super talented nice guy who loves the game and loves playing. It’s clear he’s wired differently, you cant FORCE a player to be different and think differently. I feel the same way about players like Dwight Howard, or Shaq, or LeBron (when they say he needs to always shoot the game winning shot). People are just wired differently, and born that way. It feels pointless to criticize that for me and say “what they should’ve been”. People are who they are. It’s all about getting them in to the right system and utilizing their talents the best way.
      MVP usually goes to the best player on the best team/or top team…we’ve already been over how mediocre/average all of VC’s teams were in Toronto and New Jersey. First 11 seasons he played with 3 all stars (Antonio Davis, Kidd, Devin Harris). Coaches like Kevin O Neal, Sam Mitchell, Lawrence Frank…while his peers like Wade had Pat Riley. Kobe had Phil Jackson. So that’s pretty much out of the question.
      VC was never about ball dominant and scoring titles. He was taught that especially by Dean Smith at UNC to buy into the team game. VC was one of the few to criticize Kobe’s 81 point game, basically saying he hopes kids dont watch that and think thats how you’re supposed to play. He always wanted to get others involved and play within the flow of the game. I look at players like Westbrook and Harden, and their MVPs and scoring titles, and I absolutely despise the way they play. I think it actually hurts the team. T-Mac’s amazing 2003 season with crazy MVP numbers, they blew a 3-1 lead and lost in the 1st round. VC is by no means a huge winner in the playoffs, but he at least made a bunch of winning plays to help win 3 series in his prime. By comparison, Ray Allen’s first 11 seasons he won 3 series, Dominque Wilkins only 3 series too. It’s hard to win and advance in the playoffs, clearly.
      “Born to be the GOAT”. Couldn’t disagree more. He was born to be VC. A top 50-60 player in NBA History, not a top 10. That’s who he is. I truly think that with all the God Given talent he had, he needed a better team and coach to utilize his talents. He cant do it by himself, he’s not built that way. Similar to Shaq. Born with god given size, but needed Phil Jackson and another Top 10 all time player to get success. VC never had those opportunities. He played in small markets with mediocre teammates.
      Appreciate you taking the time to read and discuss this with me. I’m VCs #1 fan in the world. I dont think he’s perfect. But It’s a glass half empty and half full thing with him. I choose to appreciate what he did and how entertaining and inspiring it was to watch him, rather than wish he could’ve been different, like Kobe. Cause then he wouldn’t be VC would he.
