Wallace wasn't QUITE in his prime yet... Still just 24, he later became a much better 3-point shooter and team defensive player (i.e.- the mid 2000s Detroit team).

"Portland can put the champagne away and get out the bottled water 'cause that's all they're gonna drink on the way home!" - Chick Hearn after Kobe alley oop to Shaq.
I was living in San Diego at this time. My roommates and I were all up in my master bedroom watching the game. After that first shot to start the fourth I thought we were done. I was despondent. Watching that comeback and topping it off with the Kobe to Shaq alley oop was the greatest moment a fan could ever have. I was screaming from my balcony and could hear everyone else in the neighborhood cheering at the same time. Great days to be a Laker fan. I miss real basketball.
One of my top 5 series of all time. 7th grade staying up late with the tv on NBC gluedddddddd to the screen it was constant action!! What a time. That Blazers squad was ELITE!
I was in 8th grade when this happened, still pissed that Portland let this get one away in the 4th quarter, was rooting for Pippen (cause he's from my home state Arkansas) after he left Chicago and Houston (wanted him to win a title there with Hakeem but of the Lakers stood in the way).
I still cant believe Portland blew that game....21 years later.....Wallace was rolling Smith was on fire.....they had built that Blazers team taylor made to play LA and couldnt seal the deal.
It seemed like the Blazers didn’t score a field goal for almost 10 minutes in the 4th quarter despite getting good looks. The shots were going in and out.
I was never so stressed out watching a game, I remember having fear-tears and me and my boys pacing around in the living room every time someone made a bucket. Each team was stacked, that was a very good Portland team that year, & if the Lakers were to have lost, Portland would have a ‘chip. Afterwards, me and my bros all hi-fived each other as if we were playing in the damn game! 😂
the entire Laker team was stacked. Glen Rice, Fisher, Horry, Shaq and Kobe, Shaw, Ron Harper who was pg for the Bulls Jordan years, AC Green... stacked team.
I graduated from high school that next Friday here in SoCal. I remember the tagline for this series was: Too Deep (Portland) vs. Two Deep (Lakers) After that alley-oop from Bryant TO SHAQ, I don't even remember watching the rest of the game after that. That play sealed it 💯
Man I was just a young kid, a Spurs fan but I really loved that Blazers team and rewatching this I had no clue how stacked both these teams were..... Man this was the NBA I miss....
I grew up in Chicago during the 90's. I got to see an incredible amount of exceptional basketball games during the most impressionable years of my life. The Bulls were and still are the greatest thing I've ever seen, not just in basketball but perhaps even all human accomplishments. But even I'll have to admit, this game here was the best basketball game I've ever seen. It had everything.
Don’t forgot Brian Grant on the bench too. He was a starter the previous year on the 1999 Blazers and shut down Karl Malone back to back years in 1999&2000 WCSF.
Kobe Shaq alley oops was the play of the game, the play of that year's play offs, and the play of their entire Dynasty. There was no stopping them after that play
Scottie Pippen could have really proven his greatness by leading the Blazers to the Finals. But he went 1-6 in Game 6 and 3-10 in Game 7. And the Blazers had the better team, with 6 all-stars.
@@badbradkamarau Jermaine O'Neal was 21, Rasheed was 25, Damon Stoudemire was 26, Brian Grant was 27, Steve Smith was 30, Stacey Augmon was 31. The truth is, Scottie just choked when it counted.
He spent most of the 4th quarter standing around and watching his teammates toss up brick after brick. Not only is he not on Jordan's level, but moments like this make him not even on the same level as Magic or Russell. Because even Magic or Russell could pick up the slack on offense if nobody else was, even if that wasn't their primary role on their team. Nevertheless, they were both guys who could say "You know what, you guys ain't scoring. I will."
Que recuerdos tan mágicos, mis Lakers Forever!! Te extrañamos Black mamba, tenia 18 años en ese bello momento cuando Kobe y los Lakers enpezarian el camino al Tricampeonato!💪
Watching this epic series surrounded by family that were all Laker fans. Me the only Portland fan. This game has haunted this Portland franchise even until today. It was Portland's series to win but the Lakers destiny to become a dominate force in this era of basketball at that time. RIP Kobe Bean Bryant. One of the greatest to ever play basketball.
The only way LA wins that game is if Sabonis gets in foul trouble. So what happens? There was no way the NBA was ever going to allow Portland to win that game.
I remember there were media outlets saying Lakers fans were like, fairweather fans, and they cited two reasons. 1 - because the bleachers would be only half full sometimes at the very start of a game, and 2 - the crowd noise. And the media failed to ever mention that 1 - Try getting into LA after work, and you'll know why fans showed up late, it's a nightmare. And 2 - The Staples Center acoustics were meant to quiet crowd noise, so the game could be picked up better for broadcasts. I've lived in a few cities with good basketball teams. Lakers are my home team, and I'll say this, they have the most passionate fans.
Games in the 80s-90s-points not decades. Sorry but that isn’t as fun to watch. They didn’t even guard the 3pt line because most of them couldn’t shoot it that well. It’s insane that it took decades for players/coaches to realized 3>2. Teams like the Warriors dynasty, Spurs ‘14, and Heat dynasty would run both of these teams off the floor. People stuck in the past don’t agree, but they would be wrong. Don’t misunderstand, I enjoy watching and appreciating these great teams of the past, but they couldn’t compete with dominant teams of the past decade.
@@GoZags43 spoken like a true millennial. He's talking about how games used to be so intense. Rivalries, the drama, the actual give a fuck to defend. That's what made it fun. NBA is cool now but I can't even watch a full game no more because guys wanna be three point shooters
This game was bought. Refs let the Lakers cheat on the final quarter. Literally holding every Portland player so they couldn’t score or get back on defense and when Portland tried doing the same they called fouls. Disappointing that the NBA continuous to let teams win because of TV rating. Just look at recent series between the Nuggets and Lakers. Perhaps the greatest game collapse in NBA history. Other one I can think of is game 3 of the 2006 NBA Finals, Mavs vs Heat. Mavs were up 2-0 on that series, and in game 3, they had a 13 point lead over the Heat with 6 minutes left. Mavs were ready to take a commanding 3-0 lead, and the Heat fans were even booing the Heat players. And then D-Wade and the Heat managed to win game 3, and won all the games after to win the Finals. Other one I can think of is game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals of Spurs-Heat in Miami. We now this one, the Ray Allen 3 pointer to tie it. ANd then Heat went won to win game 7
Pippen could have been 7 time nba champ !! Sabonis also winning a ring being closer to a wheelchair then basketball court, Lakers really destroyed lot of "what if's"

If not for horrible coaching and the refs giving the lakers so many favorable calls. Pippen with more miles on him than the entire Lakers starting 5 with a ton of injuries including HALF A Back!!...
