True story. When Viggo Mortensen was filming for the movie "Captain Fantastic" in Washington state, he had to speak a couple of lines of Chinese. The people making the movie contacted my Chinese teacher (who is not into movies at all) through the language school she was teaching at then. They picked her up in Seattle and drove her to the set in a limo, and she spent a few hours there teaching Viggo the correct pronunciation of the Chinese lines he had to speak, then they drove her back. She got something like $200 for the time she spent teaching him. She had no idea who he was. Later that week, when we met for our Chinese lesson, she told me that she had taught "some Danish actor, his name was like 'Vig' or something" how to say his lines. I was like, "Vig? Do you mean Viggo?!" She said, "Oh yeah, that was it." My eyes about popped out of my head. I asked her, "Do you know how famous he is?!?" She really didn't know. She'd never watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies and had no idea who he was, but she said he was a really nice guy.
How famous is he? I have never seen him in any movie. But him speaking different languages was all right. I also speak many but with horrible accent. I was impressed by his neutral accent in all languages

Maybe it's a prejudice but native English speakers are not exposed to other languages as much as native Spanish speakers for example. We see many movies in English and hear a lot of songs which makes English a very familiar language for us, also Spanish and Italian languages are very similar so it's even easier for us.
@ Oh I totally agree. Especially in the United States most kids are barely taught anything in the way of a second language until nearly high school. Most other countries, even Canada with French, are exposed to other languages much earlier on. It’s a whole lot harder to fluently learn other languages and for them to be natural at an older age. I wish that could change in the U.S. It’s a little arrogant to just assume everyone else should just learn your own language, and then you don’t learn theirs. I’ve always been pretty naturally inept with a few things like languages, math, and reading music. But I think had I started with a 2nd or 3rd language at a very young age, I could have learned them pretty well. But today? Phew, I think it may be a little late. The best I can do are a few short phrases or niceties. But I do make it a point to learn those when I visit another country, out of respect. Things like please, thank you, excuse me, congratulations, those kinds of things.
The only way you really learn a language fast is by using it in real life. Be it because you live somewhere the language is spoken, or because you use it for work or some other reason. If you went to another country and had to use it every day you would learn it in a matter of months. At least to a degree that lets you do your job. And that's without cheating, if you just hang out with english speakers or avoid local people you will not learn anything. And you will learn how people really speak, which is usually not the way instructors do.

I would like to know more about his technique in how to learn so many languages. English and Argentinian Spanish are his native tongues and obviously Danish too. But the others, how did he do it, and at that high level?
Italian, Catalan, and to a lesser extent French, are very easy once you know Spanish, since they are all Romance languages. The Argentine accent also has a very strong Italian cadence, due to the influence of Italian immigrants. If you heard him in Green Book speak some Sicilian Italian, he does a great job. Then Swedish and Norwegian are also very closely related to Danish, as they are all Scandinavian languages. Arabic would definitely be the hardest and most impressive if he learned it fluently.

He is Aragorn! Son of arathorn... heir to the throne of gondor
Wow! Dude is my hero! I don’t believe he’s fluent in all these languages…but makes the effort to memorizes something to say in the host language and executes it very well. The Catalan and Arabic, I’m convinced we’re memorized comments or phrases. Still dude is awesome !
His partner since 2009 is a catalan actress, so he probably speaks catalan.
He is so proud of that horse :)
His Danish is flawless! Absolutely floored
i wounder why lol, might be cuz he is danish? maby :D
@@Karnalzion Yes, that's the joke.
Qué tío!! Guapo,buen actor y políglota 😊😊
Can only say heaven! What a gift.
Hola.
He is one of my fav actors in Hollywood. He did a great job in the movie hidalgo
He is absolutely superb just amazing very inspiring
New respect for this man.
English, perfect; Spanish, perfect, French, perfect, Italian, perfect. The other languages, I don't know. Bravo, Viggo! Very impressive!
His danish is perfect too
His Italian is far from perfect. He sounds exactly like who he is: an Argentinian who has learned some Italian and has a strong accent.
Had absolutely no idea. Massively impressive.
Viggo is just amazing!!❀❁❀••••
He is out of the norm, extra-ordinary.🤩🙋♀️🇲🇫
Arabic would definitely be the hardest and most impressive if he learned it fluently.
that is a gift. i only speak 4, and some very badly... he is a natural.
@@lissandrafreljord7913 well, porteño, english and danish are primarely his "first" languages. his french is very good. his arabic is very accented but that is not a problem. the guy has an amazing talent to learn languages.
He technically speaks elvish too though I don’t know how fluently
Meu avo falava 9 linguas incluso russo...minha mae era de 1910 imagina ele c idade dele naquela época...maravilhoso...eu sou pessima p Linguas....
Você fala algum ?
I don't care how many languages he speaks!! He is gorgeous 🥰
Viggo speaking Spanish was Gangster.
One of my favourite actors 😊
Unos de los mejor actores del mundo mundial!!
Your kick ass Vigo🤙🤘 Big shout out to you from Dallas, TX USA👋
Son français est très bon
Not really. He sounds great but struggles to put a decent sentence together.
Pas du tout. Son accent est presque parfait même si il réfléchit au mots avant de parler. Si il passait quelques mois en France, il parlerait comme un native !
