So I did a camshaft replacement and I may have moved the timing really off.
If I align the pin at top and the crankshaft for sure will be at correct timing again...what I mean because the crank shaft spins at twice the revolutions ? Can I be off.

Hi Thomas. Glad you're ok. Many moons ago I used to be an eyeglass technician. Like you said, a good eyeglass shop should be able to pop out put your prescription lenses into the recording glasses. Even tent the lenses to your liking too. Don't let them fool you. Making custom lenses is no harder than making a regular pair. Most eyeglass labs computer trace every pair and the computer does the rough cut on the lens to make it match the frame. The only hiccup you may run into is that some places are downsizing and have orders made at a "central lab" and then shipped to the customer. You'll need to find a place that still offers 1hr service.

keep making videos when you can. Maybe put some kind of cameras on the other glasses you have. Do what you can. It will pay off in the long run. watch some of your repairs when I did my turbo and stuff on the TDI.
I see you are the go-to guy for aircooled & body work! I installed a rear ducktail wing on my car earlier this year (rushed the job big time) and it looks like crap now. Will probably remove it next spring and try again.

I hate bmw completely and alltogether. I've done a lot of engine teardown and overhauls, timing chains, etc on audi, vw, opels, benz, but I plain out refuse to work on any bmw engine. I hate them.
I'm not gonna say that I fell in love with that V8... but I love the sound of it and would consider adding a Manual V8 E39 to my collection! =)

Hey Thomas and glad to hear that you’re doing well. Since you mentioned eyes, I had lasik surgery in my left eye for cataract three years ago. 20/15 so far in that eye. Now three years later, I’ve got a cataract in my right eye. Will be going through lasik again. Take care Thomas and looking forward to when you can shoot again. 😀👍

Hello I have a 2015 vw Touareg TDI dtc u0155 u0164 and u1121. Circuit system check and found bad tpm module wirings causing short in data line. Could the tpm module and wiring cause a loss of communication with instrument cluster and HVAC module? Need help

Good Luck to you my friend. I know exactly how you feel. I owned my own electronic repair shop for 20 years and then had to undergo Chemo treatments for a year. There are many side effects to the chemo but loosing my eye sight, hearing, and numbness and tingling in my hands and feet really just led me to early retirement. My situation is a little different, but I do understand because these major side effects didn't happen all at once. Slow is smooth and smooth is Fast. God Speed my friend and Thank You for all the help you have provided me in the past!!!

Mr Thomas,I have VW Jetta mk4 with 1.8t engine,car showing fault code p0171 and p0172 lean/rich fuel mixture and idle is very poor please suggest what to do.thx
Check for vacuum leaks (running lean)... broken vacuum hoses, plastic one way check valves and plastic lines etc.
Running rich could also be caused by a broken vacuum line, but could also be something else.
I need to know "fuel trim values" in order to any further guesses as to what the problem(s) might be.
If you have as can tool that can read short term & long term fuel trim information, that might help determine if the problem is at idle or when cruising.

have you looked into gopro and their accessories? always enjoyed your videos as they have been invaluable and informational when working on my MK2
The only reason I would ever consider using a GoPro is the video quality... the POV (point of view) is not true FPV (first person view) which to me is noticeable and makes the video experience less enjoyable (I've watch videos where people strap GoPro's to the head, forehead, mouth, chest etc). I'm hoping that better quality cameras will soon be available for glasses.

I have a problem with my 2.0 TDI CR140 (CFFB) 2010 Diesel
The idle is jumpy and very bad when driven through the gears it shakes the car throughout the hole body of the car! Also I get fault codes
P0193 - Powertrain
Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input
Also
P0403 - Powertrain
Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit
It throws the car u to Limp Mode when this one is show ... also my glow plug light will flash.. but If I clear the codes whilst driving it perks up again and drives as normal...
But main problem is the juddering/stealing on idle and shaking whilst driving.
Can anybody help?
You need to check both items (Fuel rail pressure & EGR) for correct operation... too little / much fuel or too much EGR will cause driveability issue. Focus on the EGR system first. The ECM monitors the position of the EGR via a voltage signal from the position sensor that is part of the EGR valve. If the wrong voltage is sent to the ECM, the ECM can not correctly control the valve, causing the valve to open more than it should or not enough.
I'm always concerned about vision. I recently added these safety glasses to my collection. I am thinking it might be a good idea to wear under the welding helmet (which I upgraded too). Bullhead BH10616AF Swordfish Safety Glasses - Black Frame - Green 4.9 Cal Rated Lens.
Also, taking some supplements like lutein or a mix of vitamins that help vision may be a good idea.

My diet could be better... so I'm taking vitamins to try and balance things, but there's only so much you can do, when there's no cure for ageing. Time for me to step out of my denial phase and into the acceptance phase. =)
Thomas, if you have AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration) like me, you may be able to delay or reverse effects by dietary supplements: saffron , berries , etc. Thanks for the vid about draining the turbo boost pipe on TDI - saved my car!
Thank you for the info. I have changed my daily routines (diet & sitting farther away from 60" TV) which should help. I think sitting too close to the TV was the biggest cause / reason for my eyes to have issues with close objects, but when it comes down to it... reading glasses is something everyone will eventually need. I had early stage glaucoma at 31, yes 31. 2 years later with some keto but mostly fasting it has reversed and my eyeglass prescription improved. Glad you're ok and thanks for all of your valuable time and effort. I probably wouldn't have my VW without you!

Thomas, hang in there. Focus on doing what's necessary to take care of your vision. UA-cam can wait. I believe those who appreciate you and your videos will be here when you're ready to make more routine updates. Also, I did not realize you're available for paid phone support. I would gladly pay for that kind of support for upcoming maintenance that will need to be done to my 2004 VW 24v GTI VR6, 2.8L (BDF engine code), 6-speed manual transmission (code: 02M). I'm planning the replacement of: the timing chain; guides; tensioners; clutch assembly; clutch cylinder; engine mounts; spark plugs; coils; all coolant hoses and overflow bottle; thermostat; thermostat housing; coolant (crack) pipe; serpentine belt; belt tensioner; water pump; control arms; shocks; springs; wheel bearings; brake flush; transmission fluid drain/fill, replacement of the oil cooler and figure-8 gasket mating it to the oil filter housing and the air conditioner control unit. I want to do this entire job all at the same time. This will be a first time I do any of this maintenance. I purchased many of the parts already but still need several more before getting started. Honestly, I wanted to do this a year ago, but the more I research, the more work that seems like I need to consider when digging into the two highest priority jobs which are the timing chain assembly and suspension. I anticipate beginning the work in November. Your videos are a big part of my preparation. I don't want to take your work for granted. Can I contact you to make a donation?
If you are not shy about doing all that work... you probably won't need any help / advice! With your kind of preparation (from the sounds of it) you probably have all the needed tools & service manuals. You can post questions under videos or in my forum when the time comes. Because of the "helping over the internet or phone" factor, I can't be of "full help" / "guarantee success" when it comes to a stumbling block, but I'll be here for a second opinion should you need it.

Welcome back. I know how tough are eye issues. Currently I’m recovering from detached retina surgery. They inserted a gas bubble that will take 4-6 weeks for the body to absorb it. I only see blurry on my right eye. Can’t bend or lift weight. Not driving yet. Last year was my left eye. I use glade use glasses only for reading.
It's amazing what they can do these days to correct vision issues. All the best for your recovery!
Hi Thomas. Nice to see you again. I had to start wearing glasses a few years back. I got to the point where sticking my head into a wheel arch became pointless as I couldn’t focus on anything once it was in there. 😂 It took a while to get used to glasses too, I couldn’t drive with them on at first and walking around my workshop with them on made me feel sick and dizzy! I got used to them but have also contemplated lazer treatment. My biggest problem now is that I can’t read a sat nav on a motorbike. Latest favourite acquisition was a pair of sunglasses which are also bi-focal reading glasses. I can look cool and still read what’s on my instrument panel again. 😎 I also have a pair of Thin-optics stuck to the back of my phone. (You should check them out) I’m sure there will be a camera solution out there for you somewhere? Look forward to seeing more of your great content in the future. Regards, Russell.

My camera lenses can be removed / swapped... so I'm hoping to find someone that can cut lenses to fit!

I am in the same boat about vision. I am using trifocals I think the people around me are getting used to me using different looking at them positions trying to figure out the best view. It is usually long or mid.
I don’t work on cars for a living just plastics extrusion and processing equipment.

I think the best advice I can give you for your eyesight, is to reduce the sugar amount you consume daily. Sugar is one of the greatest enemies for human health, and the eyesight is very affected by it. If you can reduce the daily sugar intake to almost zero, I'm pretty sure you'll have an eyesight improvement in less than a year.

Oh and at night it is crazy with lights being bigger and brighter than they should be. When I drive at night now I gotta wear my glasses.

I was lucky we moved to an English speaking Country... I don't know if I would have been able to learn any other language. Once I sort the eye issue, I'm planning on being back on a more regular basis.

Hi Thomas wish you luck with the eye thing .i lost an eye as a kid .so need to wear safety glasses under car..just wondered on my vw t4 the airbag light been on a while think this needs sorting for the mot check.do I need a machine plugged in obd is it.perhaps a short ?i do have other issues like central locking stopped working.i had a new alarm fitted.it did work locking ok.when bought van it had central lockin addws on but it became faulty.the rear door light that was fitted a special vw logo light remained on all time so had fit a switch to the roof online to turn off .take care Thomas
Have someone scan the airbag module (a generic OBD2 scan tool can not communicate with the airbag module)... once you know the fault code, I can be of help.

Nice to hear from you, glad to hear things are going well. As a glasses wearer I would not recommend laser eye surgery for age related problems. Sadly once your eyes start changing with age they slowly get worse. So after a few years you'll need a different set of lenses. The laser is a one time shot so it may fix the problem but later you'll still need glasses. Maybe try to find a small camera with a separate battery pack and memory card holder that you can attach to your current glasses.

Why not get a gopro and wear a headband. You can get a old gopro cheap.
Too big and it interferes with the headlamp that I wear.

@@EXOVCDS My new boss loves the stream. He's excited to be on it and talk to everyone. He definitely sees the utility in it. It's saved our butt a couple times where it comes to a "ever since you worked on it" type thing.

Thomas, you are the best! I have a 02 Jetta ALH. I have 401,000 miles so far. It has never been in the shop. All work done by me. I used to usr the Bentley shop manual for guidance.
Now I refer to your videos. All excellent. I am hoping for 1 million miles. I ran my 85 Golf diesel 621,000 miles before I bought the 02 Jetta. I learned a lot from you. Especially the intercooler drain. Thx so much. Wishing you the best! Bob Hammond, Newtown, CT.

Informiere dich bitte gut darüber ob eine Laseroperation wirklich eine dauerhafte Lösung ist. Abhängig vom Problem kann nach 4,5 Jahren die Nahsicht erneut so verschlechtern dass doch eine Sehhilfe oder erneute OP nötig wird.
