While I was in High School in the late 70's, my elderly next door neighbor had a Lancia Beta Coupe. I loved it. At one point I asked if he would sell it to me. He indicated he would never sell it to anyone who wasn't an Italian Mechanic or married to one. Not sure if I dodged a bullet or a wonderful adventure.
You' done right by this gem! I'm so glad that there was no half-arsing it. The peace of mind you'll get from doing the full rebuild will be well worth it. Not constantly listening for grinding noises leads directly to more enjoyment, in my opinion.
Ultimate project car. Absolute stunner. I loved these back in the rally days and ever since- seeing the rust issues makes me realise I'm glad I'm too poor to own one!
Excellent episode and an extremely interesting car. The background music is somewhat nails-on-chalkboard stuff, but it's not important really. It's all about the car and the restoration, which is top-notch.
Great to see some of the restoration work, really impressed with your thinking on gauging the compliance of the springs and dampers to get something that is a true representation of the original set up. Ive driven a few of these and nearly bought an Evo 20 years ago and definitely agree that the factory set up is far better for every day driving than a many of the bone shaking hard lowered set ups.
In for a penny in for a pound.. once you are on the slippery slope it’s hard to stop on a restoration project. Now you can get the peace of mind that everything inside and out is sorted 100% Good stuff Cheers Roddy
Brilliant watch Ben. The Delta is a dream car of mine and to see your car totally brought back to life was great, and there was some other stunning cars in the background 😀
a very good friend in Grasse owns one of the very last Delta Integrale. I remember very well seeing an invoice for a lot of work done to this beautiful car and it was just over £7,000! just so many issues. It drives well.
As nearly every single Lancia was scrapped in the 1970s because of subframe rust, I'm not surprised. Was amazed to see a restored Lancia Beta in Fife last year, looking like a daily driver, no rust!!!!!
For a car over 30 years old it’s in pretty sound shape. Lord Blue was always a bit left field. I sold one to an ex England Rugby player back in the day, very understated. 👍
We just had the most amazing Evo turn up at our little lancia pub get together in Suffolk yesterday. Pearl white. First series water spray and 450 bhp. (Tanc are interested !) Ben's one looked really nice at the NEC though
Spring looks the same as on a Kia Sportage from mid 2000s. Good luck matching it up i am sure it can be done and totally worth it. I am very much in the if it isn't broke don't fix it camp. Lovely car Ben.
Interesting on the springs and shocks. I had an '86 190E 2.3-16 - it was surprisingly softly sprung, but once you got your head round the idea it was arguably faster on most roads as it was so pliant and wasn't upset by lumps and bumps compared with a lowered and stiffened car.
With new pistons, you can change the compression ratio, which can be a nice benefit, then increase the injector size, change the cam profile, and squeeze a little more out of it.
I'm rebuilding mine right now here in Brooklyn. Just today got the +.4mm oversized forged pistons installed and get home to see this video! Would love to get me a set of shocks with whatever specs you manage to find... Will Tanc be stocking those?
2:53 I’m that pedantic guy, you’ve the cam/valve cover off but the head is still connected! Ben knows and had a word slip but for others trying to learn the difference
thats coming up but I'm keen to do it on a full rig at the Nurburgring.. watch this space - I get excited about damper detail for reasons I will try to explain in an entertaining fashion
What suspension did you put on it? Is it 4 way adjustable? And i noticed the standard air filter, are you going to change the throttle bodies? Also the fuel tank, to stop the fuel sloshing around and running lean on high boost corners? just remember the issues i had with mine, when driven hard through tight corners, unless the tank was full , it caused it to loose pressure, and run lean, i was running 350bhp without too much fettering, and that was when the car was at its best. Reduced the lag by 50 percent, if I had the car now, I would add a life racing ECU, with drive by wire, so it can be mapped throughout the rev range
Nice! Re: CarPlay - you could throw a used Audi virtual cockpit in the dash and MIB-2, have someone like Alex at vag car coding remove component protection and code it up not have to worry about the heater/vent area. Kinda like the TTS/TTRS dash which doesn’t have a screen. Might need some extra modules for the mph and rpm to display though 😂 Just an idea.
While you were discussing your front struts/dampers at around 15:00 I noticed that the springs are completely different - one side has five coils and the other only three. Were these one front and one back? if both front that is a bit odd!
You should always remember Ben that you are just a temporary visitor and not an owner in a Lancia Delta Integrale as it will develop a multitude of complex mechanical faults in the near future
Does anyone else think Tank looks like Christopher Walken? Shame there is only one episode, I could have done with at least ten. More details please. Tell us why you went with KW rather than Nitron or other. We like the detail! More more
For the dampers, why not just get new Bilsteins? they will do the same job or better while the springs specs are in the workshop manual if I remember correctly. Edit: Evo 2 factory setup: - Front springs diameter 13.3mm+-0.05, 5,39 turns clockwise, 387mm height no load, 180mm height with 412dAN load. For springs with a yellow mark, that would be >180mm with 412daN load and with a green mark, that would be 156,5mm heigh with the 263daN load and green mark
You should contact Davide Cironi and see if he doesnt have contacts to help with the shocks and springs. I think the companys name is Scalenghe Ammortizzatore.
Its great - still needs some dialling in to get the rear moving around a bit more (its glued down like 💩 to a blanket currently) but the grip is insane and she rides well 👍
Yeah you'll find that exhaust cam at the front will always wear quicker than the inlet, supposedly (and somewhat logically) due to the heat rising up off that nasty log style manifold. Ask me how I know. 😬😅
I had a Lancia Beta in the 70s. I loved that car but every couple of weeks I had to jack it up in the middle so that the doors would open and close. Two 2" box sections from front to back solved that.
talk about hidden horrors my mk1 mexico had pieces of 7up cans stuff in to the front chassis legs and coated in underseal looked perfect but was rotten through!
They never thought about the hard particles wrecking the softer metal,if they use the same metal for all the moving parts that would work but be too obvious I suppose 😂
Thank you for doing this in a single episode instead of a drawn out series.
What a refreshing change to see a very special build other than M3s GT3s, Mclarens and Ferraris .
100%
That list is so boring!

A great episode Ben, thanks. Well done for saving a great car :)

Ben, your car is a jewel. loved seeing it come back to life.
Always been a big fan of the HF Ben, you have an amazing car to drive around in now and it will def get heads turning.
You have given the car what it deserved . Outstanding. I called my eldest daughter Lancia after this car.
It's a good job you didn't own an AMC Gremlin then eh!

Great work by tanc ❤
I gotta say, that grey enamel on the block looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing this process with us!
Thanks for watching!
Ultimate project car. Absolute stunner. I loved these back in the rally days and ever since- seeing the rust issues makes me realise I'm glad I'm too poor to own one!
Didn’t realise they did so much work to this car! Makes the whole thing even more impressive!
Beautifull car. Actually my dream car for many years.
Great to see you indulging in the UA-cam project cars genre.
This is a remarkable build, worth every penny! Big clap to that Lancia team, what they do is beautiful. And the detail at the end… chefs kiss! 😙👌
Best Integrale content on the web!
Excellent episode and an extremely interesting car. The background music is somewhat nails-on-chalkboard stuff, but it's not important really. It's all about the car and the restoration, which is top-notch.
Great story about a great car. Looks absolutely brilliant, a legend in motorsport. A brilliant time on the horizon for you Ben!
You're living my dream Ben, you lucky so and so ❤❤

Love you did it all in one episode.
That end result.... Just beautiful Ben, I'm sure you're more in love with the car now more than ever 😊

It’s an Italian classic……the rust is injected into the build at the factory, that’s why we love the challenge so much!👍🏼👍🏼

Wow, a lot of the suspension components are just wild-looking to me.. and guessing that's why these cars are so renowned for handling..
Just fabulous!!👍
18:00 " going from my fist . . . down to about three fingers" GIGGITY😂
Great car, great colour, great wheels. Great choice.
Thank you! 👍
This is a great build Ben,thanks for making it happen
Oddly, seatbelts have an expiration date. If they're sunfaded, you may consider replacing the belts instead. It's a beautiful build!
Cheers!
Just been through pretty much the same thing with my delta evolution, lots of help from Tanc and team ! Great job and what a special car ❤
Even the painted shell is beautiful 😍😍
"we tried" was brilliant lol
Ben this looks like proper build, from the ground up, can't wait to see finished car ❤❤❤

Wowser Ben , the paint came up gorgeous
Nice one Ben. Perhaps one of the sexiest cars ever, being saved. Keep safe. Bless
Thank you 👍
Its my favourite car of all time only ever been in one once back in the 90ies and ill never forget the experience thank you gary woody ❤
That's cool hobby to play with these kind of almost mystic rally cars. Nice ring-shaped re-enforcement cage on that thing.
Superb Ben ❤

Nice car. Blocky but buetiful. Great channel ben thanx'
My own black 16v is back off to Tanc in Feb for a respray. Amazing work by the guys.
I do love the 16V - they are the naughtiest of them all and the hidden gems

Sorry Ben, my apologies.lol
wow Ben. this is good stuff

Funny looking standard shocks and springs there, surprisingly similar looking to KW coilovers 🤓
Was never really a fan of the delta myself but that looks one pretty sorted motor.

Great choice, Ben... much nicer than a nearly new gtsomethingrather
Love it
You could get a modern suspension that is as plush as the originals with a ride height drop. Suspension technology has come a long way.
Couldn't afford an Integrale. Had 3 Delta Turbo and then a Dedra Turbo which was the UK Demonstrator just before Lancia left the UK.😢
same had an HF Turbo then a Thema.
Which body shop did this beautiful work?

Gorgeous car, Incredible build. Sorry to be that guy but what did it cost?

Che Bella!!!

Ben apart from driving cars do you know anything about how they work or what materials they are made of.
It's been a while since I've been past Tanc's place next to the Wyre forest but that unit does not look like it used too.
How come the shop has 20 Integrale's but still can't manage to make the car idle or have any form of throttle response?
it might help the camshaft wear if they had a more softer peak approach. Probably give it more torque.
You should contact Davide Cironi and see if he doesnt have contacts to help with the shocks and springs. I think the companys name is Scalenghe Ammortizzatore.
How did the new suspension come out Ben?
Its great - still needs some dialling in to get the rear moving around a bit more (its glued down like 💩 to a blanket currently) but the grip is insane and she rides well 👍

A mat pay back 😄
I'm just a litle surprised Ben that you are not getting the body shell chemically dipped,
it was close to it with the poly coat
Ben, make sure you drive this past Diddly Squat with your best smug face on once it's finished.

Please build a roll cage. Makes the chassis stiffer too

Why not balance the engine and get higher compression cylinders?
