Monday's Mushroom Episode 7: Mushrooms and Gout

- I put this together because I'm teaching a live Zoom class on gout on Wed March 23rd 2022, 6pm Mountain Time ( www.osadha.com... ). Mushrooms have a rep as being bad for folks with gout. We may need to reexamine this...

Im trying to discern if there's different mushrooms with a lower purine content.
If Lion's Mane happens to fit the bill, Im sold!
Great question! It's not something I've looked into but here are a couple related papers: www.ijfe.org/uploadfile/2017/1227/20171227053517479.pdf www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/bpb/37/5/37_b13-00967/_html? I don't know if either looks at Lion's Mane but someone must have :)
@@annamarijaheltphdherbalist800 so what Im reading is... Even with a moderate/high purine content, regular Lion's mane ingestion helps to disrupt the creation of uric acid in the body? Potentially through cultivating a healthy gut biome?
Whoa. That's big. Like... Life-changing big.
I'm really curious to see if this particular mushroom fungus could be cultivated in less traditional ways. I would love to get a daily-dose of lions mane in some sort of komucha (a new hobby of mine), with mycelium integrated as part of the SCOBY.
Unfortunately, my search results seem thoroughly poisoned by awkward komucha advocates that mistakenly describe the SCOBY as a "mushroom", and the tea as a "mushroom tea".
Perhaps I could instead look to more Academic terminology to discern what's in the SCOBY, and discern possibilities from there?
Even if I only find a discernible, "no, thats a fantasy," it'd be something, and I could move along to a different project. But my pride-and-joy, my "google-fu" is failing me.
Or perhaps there is nothing relevant on the whole internet? I find this a little fantastical.
The wild mushrooms make sense to be more medicinal. It’s the typical grocery store shroom I do find my gout is triggered. I’ve found coffee & very tart cherries in my diet as well as alleviating certain foods & medications that increased uric acid in the body. I’m presently using Lions mane & some other wild mushrooms & it seems to be helping with my other health issues. I’m curious to see if I can grow Guduchi in my zone. I can’t take allpurinal.
If you eat mushrooms from the grocery store your gout will flare up.
I just found some ganoderma applanatum and plan to make it into a tincture. Also have a friend with pretty bad gout. I haven't spoken to him yet, but assume he's on Dr prescribed Rx to treat it. I know he'll have to ask his Dr if there are any issues with taking the GA with his Rx, but are there any issues you know of (assuming standard gout treatment)?
How come there are no supplements or products with this mushroom? I'd like to see if it works for gout
