There is a lot that goes into making a custom hat! It is truly an art... beautifully done!

How do you even get the shape to start with? Just a normal sheet of felt? Block it and then cut a circle? Also what style hat is that, that you're wearing?

Massively well done. Proof that you don’t have to have a 1900s conformitor or formillion. Just quality felt, know how, and patience.

I recall back in the 1960s on Monday nights was Scouts. I ironed my shirt. scarf and lastly was my Stetson. Now at 70 it's just too over loosing it expensive to own a Stetson. My last Stetson is at the bottom of OKANAGAN LAKE B.C. I hope something enjoys it; I'm still pissed after loosing it long ago. THANKS. Alberta Canada

This was very interesting. One thing I love about youtube is I learn about random things and today it was hat making. I'm a big fan of wool felt, it's cool to learn about other fibers used for felt. Much love ❤️

Pretty much all custom hatters use the same Winchester hat bodies. I have yet to be impressed with their quality. You have to do more than just block the hat. Most hatters iron the crown and brim on the block/flange. I think it takes more than that though. Ive experimented with baking a damp hat in the oven on the block at low temps until dry and I've seen remarkable felt stability doing this. If I made hats for a business I'd look further into this for sure. If you simply block a raw body, it'll shrink and taper quickly after wet weather.
