How do you even get the shape to start with? Just a normal sheet of felt? Block it and then cut a circle? Also what style hat is that, that you're wearing?
I recall back in the 1960s on Monday nights was Scouts. I ironed my shirt. scarf and lastly was my Stetson. Now at 70 it's just too over loosing it expensive to own a Stetson. My last Stetson is at the bottom of OKANAGAN LAKE B.C. I hope something enjoys it; I'm still pissed after loosing it long ago. THANKS. Alberta Canada
This was very interesting. One thing I love about youtube is I learn about random things and today it was hat making. I'm a big fan of wool felt, it's cool to learn about other fibers used for felt. Much love ❤️
What a wonderful skill to keep. I wish you the best on your dream for being #1 Canadian hat designer. I will be following you. My Father and Grandparents were very happy hat wearing people. We would take a trip to go and get their hats.
Hello from Texas, I do my own hat cleaning and shaping myself, you do great work by the way. I will try the flame technique on my hats and see how it works.
I like your hat style you have on ,would i describe it as an open crown with short brim ,edge rolled up ? I currently wear open crown large flat brim . May wear one like yours going forward .good video
That was exactly what I was going to ask. Does he make his own felt and how or buy blanks of some sort? What are the blanks called and where do they come from
quindi se ho capito bene , lui usa modellare il capello con semplice vapore , e acqua giusto ? ( non capisco molto bene l' inglese per questo chiedo 😅 )
I have a felt Tiller by Brixton. It is super soft i want it stff stiff stiff (dats wut she said) how do I do dat? Do you use chemical stiffener? Starch? Steam? Enquiring minds want to know!
How come my hat looks so dirty and oily ? I sprayed red diesel on it before I lit it on fire I kinda smoldered awhile and put off lots of smoke . Now it’s filthy and stinks terrible.
Pretty much all custom hatters use the same Winchester hat bodies. I have yet to be impressed with their quality. You have to do more than just block the hat. Most hatters iron the crown and brim on the block/flange. I think it takes more than that though. Ive experimented with baking a damp hat in the oven on the block at low temps until dry and I've seen remarkable felt stability doing this. If I made hats for a business I'd look further into this for sure. If you simply block a raw body, it'll shrink and taper quickly after wet weather.
There is a lot that goes into making a custom hat! It is truly an art... beautifully done!
Great talk. Truly hand made. That makes it special.

Massively well done. Proof that you don’t have to have a 1900s conformitor or formillion. Just quality felt, know how, and patience.
I just love handcrafting! Thanks for sharing 😊

He makes some SMOKING hats.

What are you spraying on your hat before you set fire to it?
Great work, you have wonderful skills , can you tell me where to buy the hat supplies, blocks, flanges etc!
Hi mate! what kind of alcohol do you use to burn your hats? cheers and keep it up!
Beautiful
I struggle to understand why so many people want a cattleman's style hat. So many interesting styles to be had.
Wow so amazing, Where did you get the hat blocks from that say RA? very cool shop
I saw fire. I come to video. I press like.
Very very cool!
I love cowboy hats and always reshape them after I purchase them. Broken in sombreros are the best.
I am wondering. When creating the block, do you account for the band material, or is it the band material that keeps it snug.
I like it
What do you use on a old cowboy hat to clean it!!
great job
do you buy the hats already formed with the bump?
