Beautiful hat! I bought thicker and thinner veg tan leather to make this. I am trying to figure out from the description which pieces use which thickness.
I also have a 63cm head. Any chance there's a pattern for me? I might wing it and see if I can modify it up to my size, but I'm nervous to.

I bought the .pdf for this from the CreativeAwl Etsy. I'm admittedly an amateur. So far, this has been incredibly easy to do, even if I am still teaching myself as I go. I'm very happy with the overall process.
The one problem I've had with this so far, is that the pattern used in this tutorial is slightly different from what's in the .pdf. For an experienced leatherworker, it's probably a non issue. For me, it is frustrating. The strap that holds the bullets in place is hole punched in a different location in the tutorial than it is in the pattern that you buy. The pattern has these holes at the end of the strap around the top. This places the bullets at the back of the head; not towards the front of the hat as shown in this tutorial.
I'm doing this with a deer hide. My son's first hunting success, which I skinned and tanned. Learning that I will have to deal with the flaw, or waste precious materials this far into the process is frustrating.

Um... Maybe using Stainless Steel (non-ferrous) wire in "all weather" would be the best idea as copper does corrode (especially in high sodium chloride [salt]] environments) and if it does corrode it will leave a turquoise/blue-green color bleeding into your material when it gets wet. Not trying to troll just speaking from experience, and stainless "memory wire" is fairly common in jewelry making while also being fairly affordable. Though copper is far more affordable in a thicker/stiffer size. Though I do kinda wish someone might post a mathematical equation for figuring out the number and placement of holes for joining both the top and brim to the rise...
