You are one of the only channels that cover the saturn, and you cover it so heavily. I love your channel for this. You're keeping these old games alive, man. They need to be preserved and played and you're contributing a lot to that.
Kim Justice does it a lot too. She covers tons of old micro computer stuff, and has huge long videos about the best old football games for example (she absolutely loves Sensible Soccer for amiga the most, of course, but there's other good ones too) The beauty of the best retro sports games is you can easily update the rosters on all the old popular ones and a lot of them still play better than the modern FIFA games. The undisputed best is still the PES games, even though for them you have to apply fan patches to get all the kits. But if you don't care about that so much, and more about good gameplay, either PES on the pc or updating rosters for some of the old classics is a lot more fun, and cheap

@@mynthon0 Well, Shenmue II and Rez are not really European exclusives, but games which were released in Japan and Europe but not North America. Headhunter is truly an European Dreamcast exclusive (it was released in North America for the PS2). These cases are also on the Sega Saturn but are different to the ones covered in this video and the European exclusive ones. It would be something like "games not released in Europe but everywhere else" or "games not released in North America but everywhere else". For example, Europe got Sega Saturn games like Darius II, Deep Fear, Hebereke's Popoitto, Keio Flying Squadron 2, Megaman X3, Parodius, Riven: The Sequel to Myst, Street Racer, The King of Fighters '95 and all the Psygnosis games except the first Wipeout, among others, which were all released in Japan but weren't in North America. These are like the Shenmue II and Rez cases you mentioned on the Dreamcast. There's the same the other way around, North America getting Sega Saturn games like Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean, Astal, Dark Legend, High Velocity: Mountain Racing Challenge, Magic Knight Rayearth, Megaman 8 and Megaman X4, among others, which were released in Japan but weren't in Europe. Then there's of course, games which were released in North America and Europe, but not Japan. And that gives a list of quite interesting games too, which should especially be taken into account by all those Sega Saturn collectors which only have Japanese versions of the console and the games, and think they are getting the full library that way.
LOL! That Congo description was hilarious! I feel that frustration and pain though, after splashing my hard earned cash on a Saturn on release, I too was expecting Sega would be hitting their old IPs and franchises out the park. I mean, it was a no brainer , all they had to do was release 32bit updates on all their famous and less famous titles and win. Instead we go nothing or just crap updates, a huge huge missed opportunity and it always made me wonder why they took such a suicidal route. Lucky for me though my brother had agreed to get the PS1 on release if I got the Saturn, so we covered our bases.
The Saturn was released in Brazil just a few months after the American release. But as the sales weren't that much we didn't saw any brazilian exclusive like we had on master system, and i think the Genesis/mega drive must have some brazilian exclusive too but I'm not sure
Oh man, I remember seeing a video for Congo: The Game on the Sega Saturn Bootleg Sampler Disc that came with my system (remember that thing?) and even as a kid, I thought it was weird that they made a game from that movie. Glad I never played that one.
Fun fact: Scud The Disposable Assassin is one of the few region free games on the Sega Saturn, so you can play it in whatever region console you have. Makes it an easy import for owners of non-North American systems.
I have the last game you talked about Ten Pin Alley for the PlayStation. I had no idea ASC games even made a Saturn version. But yes I agree at first the meters are confusing. But with trial and error you can figure them out. I remember many Thanksgivings with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins playing our own mini tournament with the multi-tap trying to best each other. Good times. Thanks for all sega goodness you put out with each video. You inspired me to seek out a Sega Saturn myself which I managed to get back in July of 2019. Worthwhile purchase. thanks for showing that despite how it was marketed it really is a great system to add to any collection.
@Sega Lord X I wanted to thank you for all the great videos. Youre the main reason I bought a japanese Saturn in the first place. So many great games. My first game i bought is a original copy of Radiant Silvergun, it was expensive but it is so godly awesome, totally worth it and many (not so expensive) games will come. The only problem I have that I live in germany and are pretty young (25) for that hobby, so I have pretty much no friends that share that interest in retro games like me. It hurts my soul that Sega of America wanted to put money toward development of mediocrity instead of... I dunno, localizing some of the amazing Japan exclusives of the time. Herc's Adventure is a game I've only tangentially heard of, but after seeing gameplay and hearing your recommendation, I definitely want to try it, especially since it's available digitally for PS3 for a paltry $5.99
Your videos are always entertaining and well edited! When it comes to Sega Saturn, it seems like there are no games worth playing. Any recommendations on Saturn games that are actually fun to play?
Yeah go Japanese for almost everything except RPGs. The Japanese library is iconic. It was almost on PS2 levels where it had a game for everybody. Sega of America never believed in Sega Saturn because the Genesis still had life in it.

Scud is enjoyable with the light guns, but you're right on the money about the repetition. I forgot about Herc's Adventures. I need to get a copy of that.
We were able to play with one with controller and one light gun. It was a cool concept but the light would flash every time I shot at the screen. We gave up after the first-person dog level
5:51 Not sure what that means, but 🐕 💩is a good analogy, especially when you consider that the rest of the library on the American Saturn consists mainly of sports shovelware, like NFL 97. I’d be like: 🤦🏻♀️
What kind of world were we living in where digital pictures makes a better football game than sega themselves??? Ughhh, the Saturn era was sad for us Americans. The system could have really repaired the damage of its launch if we had just been given all the dang Japanese games!!!!
It's really sad how badly Sega botched the Saturn's release, and thereby dooming the entire platform. The Saturn has almost no games that really push the hardware. Because it had such a short lifecycle, it didnt get a lot of the really technically impressive games that other platforms like the SNES, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, or even the N64 all had. Those systems all had long periods during which a lot of hours were put in developing for, then mastering and overcoming the hardware limitations to produce some excellent games. I'm not saying there are no good Saturn games, but a combination of a smaller user base and short lifespan, plus the disastrous launch of the Saturn really harmed the potential it had to be a truly great system with tons of die-hard fans.
I don't know if it was all of the baseball games or what but man you hit this episode out of the park! Bottom of the 9th and Hercules and the 1st person tank game looked interesting to me. Oh and so did the Contra game. I wish developers would have just started off by creating an awesome 2d game with some 2.5 and 3d levels. To get their feet wet. Instead of trying to get 3d out the door. What
Leave Congo alone! It’s not so bad. I just wish I could turn faster in it but then I realized they have a quick turn feature in it for that very purpose. It’s fun.
@@SomeOrangeCat well the saturn port is exclusive to america while the Ps1 port got released in america and europe (I think japan too, but I'm not sure)
Well if the saturn had sold well in the US like it did in Japan it would have got more games. Sadly it sucks there's a lot of Japanese saturn games that can't be played because of the language, you can't really play a big RPG for example. It's why I'd be more interested in a saturn mod that can play games from an SD card to replace the disk drive, as you could then chuck on fan translation mods on it too. Seems like it'd preserve the saturn for way way longer too, as all old disk drives will fail. And because you can't really emulate Saturn games yet, so gotta use the original hardware in some way
Japan exclusives will make many a Saturn owner from back in the day very very frustrated. They had so many creative and interesting titles that never came over.
Kind of strange all those baseball games stayed here, I thought baseball was really popular in Japan. I had completely forgotten about “Herc’s Adventures”! It looks really fun and it’s too bad it wasn’t a bigger hit.
I just ordered a Pro Action Replay the other day to play imports inspired by watching this channel. Then I found out about the Psuedo Saturn cartridge now I feel like an idiot because I already paid for the Pro Action
Any plan of covering the games that were never released in Japan but made it to both North America and PAL regions (I don't know if we could call them western exclusives)? I'd especially like to know your opinion on Skeleton Warriors.
Funny how Contra: Legacy of War is widely regarded as being awful - Konami surely knows this - and they said, "That there - let's do more of that," for Contra: Rogue Corps.
I had a Saturn in 1996 and I had loved Super Probotector Alien Rebels (Contra 3) on Super Nintendo, so I would probably have bought and enjoyed Contra Legacy Of War if it had launched here in Europe. It doesn't seem too bad for a 13 year old teen :)
Oh I can think of a very good reason why you would want to play the college version of NBA Jams...if it really follows college sports then you should have 2 to 3 times the amount of teams, arena's, and more varied courts. Let's face it, every player in the original and tournament editions of NBA Jams have long retired. Not to mention the series is pure fantasy and most people back then rarely used the real teams. Remember Bill Clinton, Air Dog, ect...this is just more of the same. I'm actually pissed that I didn't know this game was a thing and totally missed it when it was new. I was all about NBA Jams and played the Hell out of it on the Genesis, arcades, 32X, Jaguar, and PlayStation too name a few. I would have picked this up for my Saturn in an instant had I known about it.
No 2 ways about it, that America wasn't a "special territory" for Sega, keeping in mind SoA weren't exactly happy about the state of the Saturn hardware anyway to begin with...
Hah! You must be as terrible at baseball games as me! That first one was just Out, out, out, strike, strike, strike, out SCREW IT, NEXT GAME! lmao, I love it
Sega Lord X, did you play a lot of golf games on PC's or other consoles in the 90's? I ask because Ten Pin Alley was pretty easy if you played golf games with the swing meter. You had to hit the button when the indicator was right in the "sweet spot" in the middle on the way up, and then once again on the way back down, both in that yellow zone between the red and the green. Usually took a practice game to figure out where you lined up your bowler and when to push the button. After a few times throwing the ball, you can get a real feel for the rhythm for double clicking the button correctly.
I am also interested in future video with PAL/JAP games, not released in US, there must be not big list, includes awesone arcade ports and maybe something another!?
I like Congo but I still enjoyed your funny bashing commentary on it. ^_^ Still I can't disagree about the NA stuff, SOA seemed to think we wanted trash games on the Saturn. :\ Oh yeah the athlete that slept in did not recognize him in Corpse Killer, in hindsight DP probably should released Night Trap on SS since it's been most people's "favorite".
For now, you can load up an Odroid XU4 with Saturn games and get a mini Sega Saturn 3D case for it. Easy project. It'll do the job until Sega actually releases one which may be years before we see an official one.
I want to see more of these games, the first baseball games look modest and balanced. I have not figured out Learning to be patient as a batsman in RBI for SEGA MEGA 32X and when I have fallen so much far behind I have been willing to end the match up Before seeing it to an end. I got like NEW and when the plastic wrap was off one could see information about how to get baseball signed by a Baseball star, I got this game during the summer that no has past and I like how it has a simple go and flow en splendour epsecially when you are there as a batsman, I do not want to sign rediculous here but I talked to mother and RBI is a good game for me as I have cerebral palsy so that cognitive things and perception issue hard, I really will gain a lot if I become more open to not feel stressed out because of winning or loosing a game, therefore, grand slam is perhaps something will ever reach but I am also able to use the being batsman as a means with that I can be ergonomic therapy and focus on the timing issues and wow factor in that so I am not in it to win any way, I had seen something like herc before and as I take from up on the screen. there seems to be as if the case with how this game run about bit by bit in smaller coverage so that I could say that i remains too though to understand narrative of game and given detail of where to head to. Scud looked good the shoooting and stearing and pointing with weapons mid air diagonally letting it all rip remided me very much the difficulty I faced as Earth worm Jim in the youth after schoool centre. Super Nintendo. MAYBE Scud is to intense for me. but the raw material seem like is a Winner game for those who can handle! it the ALLSTAR BASEBALL gaming seems to be very reliable and the feel it runs great stable thing this with very mild tone and time does not seem to be an issue. I Think I will try to get atleast one of those atari Collection discs for sometime x and y and z setups of gamemachines will trigger a flood and will go around feeling I have done a bad move. Thank you for sharing, and preparing it well and good in time
With games like these, it's no wonder why Bernie Stolar stated that there was no future in the Saturn. The only saving grace of this batch of games is really Herc's Adventures while the others are "meh" at best. The only downside to Herc's Adventures if you can call it like that is that it's also available for PS1. Maybe in a future episode of PS1 VS Saturn you could get us to know which port is the better of the two.
Also can you cover the Saturn games that are expensive, and why they are expensive? Like SF alpha 3 and raidiant silver gun? I know allot of Saturn USA games are expensive due to limited quantity, but what about the other reasons some games are expensive?
That contra game looks nice with a bit of potential. Some of these games look like they have a lot of potential but dropped the ball. Lucky they dropped that ball in North America and not UK lol.
Great video man. Scud was indeed repetitive and mediocre. I've had that game since my childhood and it was always a luke warm enjoyment despite how much I played it. But I'm confused why Contra Legacy Of War is on here, it was released on PS1 I have a copy of it. I actually like it, surprised it gets all the hate.
@@SegaLordX Thanks for the reply man. I think I see my confusion. I thought they were all Saturn console exclusives in addition to North American exclusives. Thanks for all the great content man. I just set up my Fenrir and your videos have been a great resource for games to try out.

@@CasperEgas Not exactly an exclusive though, as it was on the PS1 too.
Hey thank you for your video
You make you tube a place and a fun app by making these videos
can you do a video retrospective on Snatcher or Policenaunts? thanks
*Obi Wan Kenobi voice* Bernie Stolar. Now that is a name I have not heard in a long long time
I remember seeing half these games at my local Blockbuster at the time. And hercs adventure is the only one I wanted and couldn't get my hands on
Terrance Oliver why not? Was it rented out by other people every time you went?
@@jonbourgoin182 yep every single time lol
it doesn't say on the box or in the manual, but Contra Legacy of War has analog compatibility with the 3d controller
Hmmmm, I bet I've never own/ played any of them.....
*Sees Midway's Greatest Hits*
Still have it 😁
Sinistar: *I HUNGER!*
Sinistar: *RAAAAAAAAAAR!*
I just ordered a Pro Action Replay the other day to play imports inspired by watching this channel. Then I found out about the Psuedo Saturn cartridge now I feel like an idiot because I already paid for the Pro Action
You can turn a Pro Action Replay into a Pseudo Saturn. ;)
Yes, you can flash it by burning a CD. See here: ppcenter.webou.net/pskai/
Scud looks like fun and I want to checkout Her's Adventure!
Any plan of covering the games that were never released in Japan but made it to both North America and PAL regions (I don't know if we could call them western exclusives)? I'd especially like to know your opinion on Skeleton Warriors.
I'll fit those into related genre/topic videos. I only covered NA and PAL Exclusives because the list was manageable.
Best baseball game is World Series 2 on saturn so good
Funny how Contra: Legacy of War is widely regarded as being awful - Konami surely knows this - and they said, "That there - let's do more of that," for Contra: Rogue Corps.
Yes you will!
Did not know that Contra game existed!
I actually had it for my Saturn and thought it was pretty solid.
Scud is pretty repetitive but I love it nonetheless. Poured hours into it when i was a kid.
The Saturn era for Sega was like the Wii U era for Nintendo
No 2 ways about it, that America wasn't a "special territory" for Sega, keeping in mind SoA weren't exactly happy about the state of the Saturn hardware anyway to begin with...
I love Corpse Killer and Double Switch. Got the remastered versions and all. I can´t believe the Saturn version looked that bad.
Hah! You must be as terrible at baseball games as me!
That first one was just Out, out, out, strike, strike, strike, out SCREW IT, NEXT GAME! lmao, I love it
Depends on the game. I hadn't played some of these in 20 years, so I had idea how to game the systems. Just hitting the ball was challenging enough.
I just noticed that most of these games had digitised actors or FMV. Quite a theme going on with these, eh? :P
Double Switch is again re released on Nintendo Switch.
corpse killer!!! wow, one of my friends had that game
I remember playing Scud as a kid and not liking it very much. Safe to say that I didn't beat lol but at least the music sounded cool.
9:15 full motion disaster
When will Sega make a Saturn Mini? 🙇🙇
@games maybe can do it :P
For now, you can load up an Odroid XU4 with Saturn games and get a mini Sega Saturn 3D case for it. Easy project. It'll do the job until Sega actually releases one which may be years before we see an official one.
Will never happen. Would be a stupid decision anyway. Almost no one bought a Saturn back in the day
@@drunkensailor112 that's the reason they should do it.
For instance. I didn't have a TG16 so that makes me interested in the TG16 mini.
@@Lightblue2222 it makes you interested, but almost no one else. These mini systems only sell out of nostalgia
Nice !!!
Can you review The Crow for the Saturn? I remember playing when I was a kid back in the day. Thanks 🙏
I believe SLX referred to that game as "The Crow: City of Suck!"
Yeah, he's not a fan 😅
Thank you for sharing, and preparing it well and good in time
Ten Pin Alley is actually not that bad of a game. I have the PS1 version and do fairly well with it.
A Japan exclusives video would take forever to make and have to be split into 10 parts!
Or more. There were over 1000 games for the Saturn in Japan.
Looks like Japan and Europe didn’t miss anything good at all after watching this list.
6:02 "KABALAAA!!!!"
On the PS1 it doesn’t have that split screen at least for me for bottom of the ninth
6:47 release the avgn rage
Also can you cover the Saturn games that are expensive, and why they are expensive? Like SF alpha 3 and raidiant silver gun?
I know allot of Saturn USA games are expensive due to limited quantity, but what about the other reasons some games are expensive?
10:50 Was that Tarantino in a Kilt?
That contra game looks nice with a bit of potential. Some of these games look like they have a lot of potential but dropped the ball. Lucky they dropped that ball in North America and not UK lol.
The next video is the full list of Japanese exlusives right? :)
Ha. So many, it would need 30 episodes. I wouldn't know where to begin.
Not gonna lie Congo looks like fun shit time lol
Great video man. Scud was indeed repetitive and mediocre. I've had that game since my childhood and it was always a luke warm enjoyment despite how much I played it. But I'm confused why Contra Legacy Of War is on here, it was released on PS1 I have a copy of it. I actually like it, surprised it gets all the hate.
This was about the Sega Saturn, where Contra Legacy of War was only released in North America.
@@SegaLordX Thanks for the reply man. I think I see my confusion. I thought they were all Saturn console exclusives in addition to North American exclusives. Thanks for all the great content man. I just set up my Fenrir and your videos have been a great resource for games to try out.
So than Mortal Kombat Trilogy and bubble bobble rainbow islands were not exclusive to usa? I assume they were also in Europe. Japan has MK2 never seen umk3 or mkt.
