      Because you are statistically more likely to die from severe weather, food poisoning, a falling coconut or icicle, malaria, car accident, falling out of your bed, undercooked meat, or being attacked by a dog. So by that logic never leave your house, hire someone to cook and taste all your food before you eat it, sleep on the floor, go vegetarian, avoid palm trees and cold climates, and don’t own a car or a dog.

    My friend died of a shark attack in a very unexpected way. He wasn't even swimming in the water. He was standing on a pile of rocks right next to the ocean while washing his hands. Maybe the shark got attracted to his shinny watch. It suddenly attacked out of nowhere, bit his arm, and dragged him into the water. People tried to rescue him and get him out. Although the rescue was successful, he eventually died of blood loss as the shark bit off his whole left arm.

    The fact you swim in 1 area for 6 years and dont get hit by a shark doesnt mean you will never be hit by a shark, it means your odds of getting hit by a shark are increasing every day until someone does get hit by a shark.
    Its like rolling a dice 20 times and not getting a 6. It doesnt mean you will never get a 6, it means that the next roll is very likely to be a 6.

    • @ShellysAshes
      @ShellysAshes Рік тому +18

      Actually, to be pedantic, I don’t think this is quite correct.
      If you roll a dice 100 times without hitting a 6, the odds of hitting a 6 on your 101st roll haven’t changed. It’s still 6/1. The universe doesn’t remember the past like this and alter the odds.
      It’s just more that, if the odds of getting hit by a shark are very low (let’s say 10k/1 in a particular place) but you spend a lot of time in that place, you’re buying more tickets to that particular lottery. But even if you have already “played” 1k times, that doesn’t mean your odds are now 9k/1. It’s always 10k/1 each individual time. You might be like incredibly unlucky and get hit on your first swim, or you might swim there 100k times and never get hit. But the odds never change.

    • @jfh667
      @jfh667 Рік тому +2

      @@ShellysAshes Yes, but no. Its like a mathematical fallacy. If you roll 90 dice and didnt get a 6, it is true that the next roll is still 1/6. But its kind of cheating because we know statistics can never tell us what will happen to one particular individual.
      So lets take a group !!! A better wait to look at it is what are the odds you get a 6 in the next 10 dice roll, knowing you didnt get a 6 in the last 90. 19 times out of 20.
      Then the odds of getting at least one 6 are very close to 100%.

    • @The-GreenHornet
      @The-GreenHornet Рік тому +8

      You guys are giving wrong statistics for the possibility of shark attack in the said area.
      Dice are always 6 sided (normal 🎲).
      Sharks are not consistent in any certain area.
      Their presence varies due to various situations: time of year, penipeds population during those times, even various situations in that specific time, time of day, amount of fish that just happen to be in the water at that time that the penipeds feed on or lack thereof, etc, etc etc.
      There are soooooooo many variables that come into play on any given time, day, and time of year.
      Then you drop in said person who goes into the specific place in the ocean water in the various ongoing fluctuating circumstances.
      You see that nothing is a constant, like the roll of a 6 sided dice.
      Speaking just on great white sharks; time of year, migration of them as well as their prey (penipeds) to a certain body of ocean where they hunt, time of day all play into the scenario of a person being attacked by a great white shark.
      The variables are endless; the great white shark could have just gorged itself on a sea lion a hour before said person arrived and entered the water.
      That shark no longer is hungry, but the person is swimming in the water with the shark in the vicinity.
      It's a crap shoot.
      There have been numerous occasions when surfers and body-boarders have been right above one or multiple great white sharks swimming underneath them, and not even attempted to bother the surfers and body-boarders.
      This has been viewed by drones.
      Then there have been other situations where a surfer/ body-boarder/ swimmer goes into the water and within a few minutes gets deliberately attacked by the great white shark.
      I don't believe in the so-called mistaken identity that is being used by so many people regarding attacks on humans by great white sharks.
      They know that humans are NOT penipeds: we don't swim anything like penipeds or smell like them. Great white sharks have great smell and electrical field abilities to know the difference between people and penipeds.
      Go in to the ocean water you take your chances.
      I used to body surf and body-board a lot as a kid and young guy in the ocean back in the 80's.
      Now, I'm not so sure I would have the same gusto to go in the ocean.
      Great white sharks have increased in their population due to the laws that make it illegal to fish them and kill them.
      Now I would probably be very creeped out if I was treading water that was a little bit deeper than myself.
      No Way would I go in the ocean water where penipeds are, or even nearby say...a couple of miles up or down the coast from where I was.
      Great white sharks are much more abundant now than in years past.
      However I would absolutely love to be in a small charter boat and see one near the boat. But swimming in the water where they are known to be...No Way! I'm not a strong swimmer, not that, that would matter.
      Surfers are nuts! to me; especially the ones in central and northern California that surf in the known great white shark waters.
      That would creep me the BLANK out!

The recent attack near sydney Australia along with the multiple attacks in Egypt proves this. In the Australian and one of the Eqyptian attacks the shark ate the person and came back for more. There are also several more examples of shark attacks that prove that a shark will consume an entire human. Just because we are not their favorite food does not mean they will not eat us. Some clever company somewhere must one day create a proper and safe barrier to keep both sharks and people separated. • @socialdeviant13
      @socialdeviant13 4 місяці тому

      It sounds great, but there's no financial incentive. You'd have to make something that is resistant to oxidation, has a large area of effect, is easy to repair, and repels all shark species without repelling prey fish who protect and maintain reefs. On top of all those requirements, the majority of shark attacks are not on bathers.
      Most attacks are on boarders, divers, and off-shore swimmers - people who go into shark hunting grounds. We already have anti-shark suits and devices for them, such as chainmail suits, electromagnetic deterrents, and sound repellants, but they are financially expensive and/or don't really work for boarders who need agility.
      This video, and the channel in general, hyperbolizes or outright lies about how dangerous sharks are. Florida, where I live, is called the Shark Bite Capital of the World for a reason. We have the most shark bites every year, nearly half the attacks in the US, and even more than the whole country of Australia, the second-highest in total attacks. Hundreds of thousands of people engage in water activities, but our attacks are only in the double digits. On top of that, out of the attacks we have every year, on average, none are fatal. Check out TheMalibuArtist here on UA-cam to see just how dangerous shark interactions generally are - and he usually makes videos on Great Whites, the Shark with the most attacks on humans.

      Considering the fact that very nearly EVERY SINGLE ocean swimmer is spotted by aquatic wildlife, every time they enter the water, I would say NO, just bc sharks see us does not mean they WILL definitely attack. In fact, I would say that the odds are pretty LOW in favor of NOT getting attacked.
      When you consider how many people enter the ocean each summer each DAY, we would see a TON more attacks, I promise you. I mean, in SoCal alone, we have thousands in the water ea. day... IF your theory is even nearly correct, there should be multiple attacks every day for every beach. Even if the beach closes after attacks, there are a lot of sharks in that water, where the continental shelf drops off into the Pacific deep... a NICE spot for sharks to hunt the crossover of deep water & shallow water prey. Tons of sharks plus lots of people SHOULD equal tons of attacks, and yet this does not happen. Not in the numbers that your hypothesis would suggest.

      People’s minds do not want to go there immediately when it is someone that you love. That is not abnormal behavior. It is called denial and is literally the first stage of grief. Of course the thought crossed his mind that she was gone, but he is going to check everywhere else first and hope to God that he finds her alive even against all odds. That’s what makes humans separate from animals and sharks. Hope. Stop shaming people for having completely normal reactions to extraordinarily rare and difficult events.

      I think we, as humans; don’t know what to do when we see something like that. We want to help in any way we can, even if it doesn’t make a difference. I know when my dad had a kidney stone and was in so much pain and I literally was just running around looking for ANYTHING that could help while waiting for an ambulance. He almost passed out and I grabbed an ice pack and told him to hold it on his forehead. Why? Idk. He was in so much pain that he was sweating and pale. He acted like the ice pack helped somewhat though lol. I can’t stand to see someone I love in pain(as most of us do). Adrenaline kicks in and you’ll do anything to help. Even if it’s just a beer can 😂

    The thing that I am seriously concerned at, is that what they did... As stupid as it was, did they break any laws?
    If not, then the law needs to be amended... There must NEVER be any reason to encourage sharks, in anywhere there are swimmers. Thats just dumb.

    I watch this videos constantly, as well as countless other shows, videos, podcasts, etc., and there’s definitely a connection between where the attack occurs on the globe and whether or not other beach goers/ witnesses are going to help. Americas seem to help eachother much more than other nationalities. From what I’ve seen, Egypt is the absolute worst. They’ll watch & record someone being ravaged to death feet in front of them and won’t even attempt to help. I’ve seen it happen in multiple instances. In the U.S. it’s almost guaranteed that someone will atleast try to help if they can.
