I'll go ahead and pin a comment here for anyone who has disagreements with this match's outcome- Both of these factions come from totally different backgrounds filled with lore that I couldn't entirely explore in this one quick video. As such, the winner is determined simply by which NPC's won. I could have done better showing this, as a few of the large scale battles may have felt inconclusive. I could have very easily added a few more Covenant soldiers and let them win, but I gave it to the Combine this time. Still, like I said, either side could win this.
Maybe I'll remake this later, I don't know.

bad frame rate paired with the covenant AI not reacting in most cases or reacting too slowly made these fights kinda weird. (the combine also had a weird but rather accurate flechette rifle with the model of the Pulse rifle)

I mean. You kinda just acted like the scarab no longer existed, after it killed that strider. The scarab is still there, and would probably finish off the rest of the combine's forces. I'd say that last round is a covenant win.

@@greenelmo7678 Except humans are the reclaimers. Their Forerunners AI would've show this to the Covenant and they would've thought there was some kind of really important Forerunner secret on Earth to be reclaimed so they'd protect the planet from the Combine but also fight us probably

I'm pretty sure the Flood is susceptible to getting disintegrated. Sure they'd have a hard time but the Combine are literally interdimensional
We don't know the full power of the combine, they could beat / have beaten the flood in another universe, and maybe the creation of the combine came from the precursors instead of them turning into flood when the forerunners had killed them, because the floods existence is to punish living species because of the betrayal from the forerunners, and if the precursors created the combine they're essentially doing what the flood do, just not assimilating biomass, but enslavement and control.
The Combine would be pretty terrifying if they got their hands on an all-consuming parasite. I'm not even sure if their interests would be in conflict, they just have different methods to achieve the same goal: TOTAL ASSIMILATION. Being 'corrupted' by the Flood simply means the Combine can do that much, much faster and more efficiently.

Probably if another empire (even in HL lore, something like race X) found earth combine would most likely ask for help from recently occupied humanity, and the combine would realistically win, uprising would just be delayed I think.

The Combine would probably enslave Grunts first, as they mate fast and can enter battle after a couple of months or just one. Unlike the Covenant/Banished, the Combine will likely turn them into synths. I like to imagine them being half flesh and half machine, augmented eyesight and their bodies modded so they can breath in whatever atmosphere the Combine sees fit. Im not sure about any other species however, perhaps the insects but thats it. Hunters would be too complicated to synthesis and Brutes and Elites would serve as much troubles as humans would.

Hello, the coder of that addon here, kamikaze grunts standing still means there's no navmesh, make sure there's navmesh on every zone you plan to use them on
I figured that was the main issue, a lot of the maps I use don't have navmesh and sometimes I'm just too lazy to generate any myself. If there's any way to place navmesh in only the small zones that I plan on recording with, I'll look into it, since I never really thought of that.

Kinda want to see that again but more ODST style combine drop which essentially that whol air battle but with combine dropping soldiers directly into enemie lines while firing what ever ordinance
much effort was put in this video, well done! fav part was the civil protection trying to kill the eite with a stun baton... a true madlad.
Old video but something we'd have to consider is the Half-Life 2 and Half-Like Alyx Combine, while seemingly weak and easily defeated (because main character.) What we face is basically just a local garrison with militia volunteers (the entire Metro Police force is human.) The full strength of the Combine Empire is never seen.
Unfortunately there isn't much on the Gmod workshop to pull from, other than basic units and a few vehicle AI. Even then, I wouldn't choose to simply overwhelm the Covenant with pure numbers, because I prefer to keep the battles more cinematic looking. I like to have the audience guessing who's going to win.

It's honestly surprising how little content I've seen comparing and contrasting the two armies
they would struggle for maybe a few weeks or months. but after that the high charity probably would fall after some months or year.

I LOVE THE SCENERY OF THIS. What did you do to get the gunships and dropships to fly in such cleanliness like this?
Basically, the gunship AI is stuck floating to the middle of the map at all times. I wasn't sure how I could make them look cool when all they do is sit at one spot, so instead I spawned a ton of them way off to the side, and recorded them as they all flew to that center point. I actually have no idea how to make them fly around naturally, so that's all I did. The map is called bigcity_improved, and maybe that might have affected it a little too. I dunno.
Quick edit- the dropship landing on the highway was actually piloted by me, using a wonderful addon called Airwatch.

@@trevor4212 I'm very glad you liked it. Now that Season 1 of my Gmod Battles is over I'm playing around with different addons in my free time to see what might be interesting. I prefer not to repeat the use of any NPC's/Factions, but this video did get a lot of attention so maybe I'll revisit it.

this is freaking epic
fresh comment because i understand that not everyone will know this
it dosent matter what the cannon strength of a specific unit is, it only matters how they are CODED to act and react in gmod
take the strider for example; it fires a basic weapon at infanty but is coded to use its main cannon attack in specific circumstances: the basic bullet attack is just that, coded as a bullet, against another strider it would have no effect for example beacuse of another thing that is coded
the armour and health of the unit: you can code a unit to regen health as soon as it takes damage or, like the strider, code it to behave like a tank - bullets will have NO effect on it but explosives will and are the only way to kill it
thats why the scarab can kill the strider - its still plasma its firing but the CANNON firing the plasma is coded to fire "Explosive" type ammo
it looks like plasma, it sounds like plasma, but it behaves like an explosive rocket
the energy sword is another thing to consider: its coded to deal am immense amount of damage, the normal HP for a unit is 100 - i'd say the sword is coded to deal 1000 damage so ensure it insta kills when it connects; to keep it in line with how it acts in the halo games
a good example is the likes of the Kill la KILL and rwby SNPC's - they move fast and hit hard and are hard to kill because of how they are codded
they have like 2000 or 3000 health and regen it VERY quickly, as soon as you hit them, their health starts rapidly going back to full and their attacks are coded to deal immense damage
so if the likes of say an elite with an energy sword went toe to toe with them he'd die because he has the shield and health but they dont regen and its set at only 100 to 200 to make them more in line with how they are in halo games, obviously the weapon that deals 7000000000 damage is going to kill anyone
and also you can code how accurate somthing is: oobviously the universal union, or the combine as they are also known, would lose in that regard because half life was all about the player being this unstopable force - they cant aim for shit but you can as the player - and all that fancy armour they wear? its for intimidation purposes more or less. they arent coded to actually be bullet sponges despite being clade in layers of ballistic resistent armour
halo units would win easily in this regard because while they do indulge the player being this force to be feared, so are the covies
jackal snipers on halo 2 legendary anyone? you'll be dead before you realize your being targeted
the covies arent like the combine, the covies actually have some decent health and armour on them, in lore and in game and they arent the two year olds that just found daddys gun, they are veterans who have been trained all their lives with how to use their weapons effectivly - they can fire and move, they aim well
you could even code the scarab to be as weak and easy to kill as a metro cop if you wanted, just tell the game that its "tank like exterior" is actually "weak flesh" and give him 50 HP
the reason that the likes of the scarab and the strider act and sound like walking tanks is both the code and the visual
the visual aspect is, isntead of a fleshy noise and bloody impact, you get a metal ting and a metal dent, and the code as mentioned is told that "this is armour, only explosive type damage will hurt it, bullets wont work at all"

you CAN change either one and get a different outcome
you can change the appearance as mentioned, to give the strider and scarab a fleshy impact and bloody splash to tell the game "this is flesh" but leave the code to how they react to daamage alone and they will be a giant walking meat mech that wont die unless you use bombs
same goes for the reverse as mentioned: tank like exterior but STILL dies if you hit it with a crowbar because its got low HP and is coded to be sucseptible to none-explosive damage
this is a breif exmaple of what i mean

damage dealt: bullet and explosive

see even if the covenant won the 1st battle the combine would have already captured troops of the covenant and made more soldiers from the grunts elites brutes. Its like poking the bear when you wake the bear up it will consume you. Combine is the most op organization
the combine aren't the same as the flood. Only when the combine conquer a species do they then begin to slowly integrate them. Even if you win the ground engagement against the covenant they will kick your ass in the orbital high ground and then simply bombard the planet.
How could you even think to bombard the combine? They literally attack from another universe through portals... The Covenant are a minor nuisance at galactic level, the combine are a multiversal level threat, like hell from doom eternal.
@@sbugmanthenoobinator the combine can't just make portals appear at random, they only managed to invade earth because of the small dimensional tear created by the black mesa incident. Even then the combine have a rather primitive teleportation/portal system compared to what the black mesa researchers post collapse where able to work on.

I really liked to use of headcrab shells in the battle, something some people forget that are used by the combine to weaker the resistance bases and invade them.
I love doing these in gmod too lmao, i usually put storm troopers or clones vs the covenant all the time but from time to time i also pin them against the combine.

I just used the [IV04] Halo Reach NextBots addon and the IV04 base. The combine were all basic NPC's I downloaded. Maybe it's because some maps don't support NPC movement very well, so they act strange.
Idk if you can do this in gmod. But the Covenant also would actively be using space fighters in aerial assaults like seraphs and space banshees.
There is a great lack of diversity in weaponry, enemies (mostly enemy ranks), and vehicles.
I had to uninstall Gmod from my laptop because it couldn't handle the epicness of these fights, which were always a blast to do. I could entertain myself for hours with every vs matchup I could think of. But my computer kept crashing so I had to let it go for now, till I find something with the CPU to handle Gmod at its finest.

The last two battles were a little inconclusive, which is my bad. I kind of gave the victory to the Combine because they’re the faction I just thought would win. It definitely could have been done better.
Wars just dont work like that... you do not kill all of them some of them just retreat. Plus Combine is already superior so fair fight.
All the Combine has to do is open a massive number of portal storms on a number of Covenant planets.

What may or may not have helped the covenant is download LFS halo vehicles. I set the A.I. to 2 for Covenant airships and let them go to town on the combine below.

I feel like the covenant would win, they got ftl travel, they can glass entire planets, and they dont bother with taking prisoners. the combine mostly just subsist on overpowering weaker races and taking there stuff for themselves and unless the combine has something on their homeworld that is super effective I can see the covanent winning
Tbf, we only see the very tip of a massive iceberg. The combine holds an unknown number of planets, *and dimensions* its likely what we see in half life is such a miniscule amount of force to them that the main force barely even noticed when earth was taken back from their dominion, as evidenced by earths combine forces being left to essentially rot after the portal collapse. The combine had bigger fish to fry. Its hard to say, but based on the combines universe conquering status I would say they are the likely winner by numbers alone.
Now that I think about it, the covenant completing their goal of activating the rings would do little to stop the covenant either, as the effects of the halo are confined to one universe.
In the last urban combat the Covenant Clearly won....

Not sure if you’ll see this but I downloaded all of the mods in the description for the covenant and for some reason they just stand still, do you know how to fix this?
As far as I'm aware, the mods I listed are correct. So, maybe the map you spawned them on doesn't support AI navigation? There are a lot of maps that don't support certain NPC movement. You can spawn them in a basic map like gm_construct, and if they work there, then the problem was probably caused by the map used them on.
I haven't used those NPCs for a few months, so maybe there's something new that I don't know about.
Could you try CIS vs Covenant or Republic vs Combine next time, or vice-versa? I tried making these NPC battles but my PC is a potato.
I have indeed considered using the Star Wars factions for one of these battles. I'd like to avoid repeated use of the same factions, though, so I don't know if I want to use the Combine again. Either way it's something I do have on my videos-to-make bucket list.
Are the covenant tanks part of the Nextbot mod or do you have to find a separate mod for it?

I love both sides a lot but I think the combine would win but it would take longer then it did to defeat humanity since the covenant have also advanced technology like there ships but the combine could build something to fight them or capture a ship and modify it or take the advanced technology, and I think the combine took entire dimensions so the covenant don't really stand a chance.
Humanity won the human-covenant war and destroyed the covenant in the end after several years, even if it was a close call
Humanity never defeated the combine, only set them back and chased them off of earth presumably temporarily
humans in Half-Life is not even close to how advanced humanity was on Halo. if the Covenant invaded earth in Half-Life they would just instantly glass the planet because earth on Half-Life doesn't contain any forerunner artifacts. heck i don't even know if humanity in Half-Life could last for 30 minutes-1 hour if The Covenant invaded.

Please do a 1v1, would love to see Davoth done nicely and fight Zeus or other more powerful npcs.

There is no way we can know the true result, their mechanics and I.A for example.. that covies aren't acting like thenselves.. also elites armor recharge. And the combine, in a such big battle Between two giant alien empires.. would use the Power of the advisors as well. One thing is sure, it would be the best crossover war ever!
We also can't measure the types and amount of damage their weapons would do, translating to each other's universes. I listed all the mods in the description. At 4:13, the Combine didn't shoot because the Metrocop was in the way.

Now if it was a small coming Invasion Force yeah I can see the winning but if it was a whole entire Armada Covenant ships what division forces the Covenant woodwind by sheer numbers.

And this is only forces to stop resistance, like prison guards. If we had combine invasion forces than covenant would be stumped to the ground in hours.
@@potassiumdroid8390 The combine has a whole fleet of spaceships. In half life 2, if you look on the "earth surrenders" corkboard, you can see a picture of 2-3 combine spaceships floating above a skyscraper in the sky.
