    Ok I am a big big fan but my 2 home lakes are Cherokee and South Holston. This is less a "rig" and more a technique. It originated on South Holston and it's a vertical presentation that we don't fish on the bottom. Some of the retrieves you're talking about sound more like tight-lining (another technique originated in Northeast TN) and not a Damiki "rig". We don't fish it on the bottom.

      @AppalachianDroneFlights 7 років тому +3

      BassGeek yep. I'm from East Tn as well, and as soon as he started I said "he's tightlining, not Damiki rig fishing". no offense to Gene, but I really think this is an attempt to get views, based on the fact that after the elite cherokee event, everybody is searching Damiki Rig fishing on the web.

      Hate to say it but I agree and he's better than that.

    • @SouthwestVAOutdoors

      BassGeek i agree this is tightlining, not Damiking. Damiking is a vertical presentation over the bass not on the bottom and using a damiki armor shad.
      and tightlining, is using light line, small jig head and a gulp minnow. keeping the bait on the bottom, drgging or jigging the bait.

    I love this rig for pressured bass & slab crappie. I'm looking forward to using it video-game style for hybrid walleye this year too. The best thing about it is that you can change the profile without retying because you can use a fluke, a boot-tail, or even a curly-tail grub on the same jig. I go fluke for clear water, curly-tail for stained, and boot-tail for muddy water.

  • @theredneckcuber9265

    The damiki rig is usually referring to the vertical "video game fishing" technique used in east tn not the technique you are using I guess it's the same rig but not the technique used to win the elite series event on Cherokee Lake

      I feel like it was almost clickbait to do this video right after that tournament because although the rig is similar the technique isn't even close to the same

      You're completely right buddy. As soon as I seen them fishing it I thought the same thing. I mean they've got the right idea with the baits I guess but they're not fishing it how you fish a damiki on Holston or Cherokee.

    I've used that technique for since I was a kid. Never heard it called that. Learn something new every day. We mostly use it for white bass early in the spawn when they are not super active.

    In Florida we have been using this same rig to catch redfish and sea trout for a long time. Never thought to use it for bass because down here there's so much cover in most of the freshwater that I don't use many exposed hook rigs.

    I live in SW Ohio. Would this be fishable in high 30's? If not what would be the best in an old gravel pond that is pressured? The pond I fish is muddy in the middle with a muddy/gravel shoreline. During the warmer months I've fished a small version of this with a 1/16th with 2" paddle tail grub. Thanks!

    The Elite guys were fishing this rig differently than Gene is. They were fishing it in 50 degree water and they were using a vertical presentation. They weren't swimming it at all. They were dropping it down on schools and just dead sticking it at whatever depth the school was at. Mainly in 20-40ft of water. They were imitating a small baitfish that was stunned by the cold water and made it look like an easy meal to the smallmouth. Obv it can be fished in a bunch of different ways but that's just what the Elite guys were doing last weekend.

    The way you guys are fishing that is more like the tightlining technique, not so much the damiki rig. I fish the damiki, like others are saying, in a vertical presentation in 20+ feet of water. Tightlining is more along the line of what you guys are doing, casting at about a 45 degree angle towards the bank, and just popping the rod and reeling, just barely letting your bait get on the bottom, more like reaction bite. Just trying to clarify for you guys.

    I wouldn't say he actually expose this rig to the public. This really has been around forever and everybody was fishing it in that tournament anyways. And if he just happened to win.I will say I don't really recall seeing A lot of people throw it shallow like you are. Normally up here we fish using our graphs playing the videogame on the screen with her bed in the fish like we do with blades and drop shots. That's the way it's normally finished anyways. But I can see using it this way almost like a Ned rig would be only with a fluke tied on and a different type of jig head. But it's basically the same thing as fishing in the Greg if you're fishing at shallow like that. I don't think it would matter as much what type of jig head you're using if you're not dropping it under your transducer: fishing deep water

    looks like a crappie jig head with any soft plastic , I've caught many bass with a plain old crappie jig and bobby garland soft plastic pitching to the rocks for crappie. If they are hungry, they are going to eat it.

      ppl are coming up with names for rigs that don't even need names. it's a simple jig head with a fluke fished exactly like a ned rig.

      Eh I don't agree. A ned rig is a stick bait

      @wesjanz 7 років тому

      Whereas the dimiki rig is used with a bait like the dimiki armor shad (the reason for this rigs name) or a zoom fluke/soft plastic jerkbait, usually shortened up.

    Well that's not the damiki technique. Damiki is a vertical.

      Thanks Chad. Honestly I don't care if I ever grow as fast as them. I am doing exactly what I love to do. Teaching people how to fish is more important than producing sensational clickbait videos.

    I don't get it??? Go and search let's say some of Joe Bucher's old shows fishing for Smallies. You tell me way back when he was using basically the same set-up, fishing it the same way, same depth's, fluke split-tail, curly tail, beaver tail, paddle tail or whatever with let's say Kalin's Plastic's, it was called a Damiki RIg? Only thing in using this Damiki Rig set-up that Joe might not of had years ago was the different kinds of lines Angler's now have available. I would think Doug Stange from the In-Fisherman would argue this Rig name/calling a bust. Doug on Public Television show's rigging his paddle tails so the hook goes thru the side of the paddle tail instead of top side or bottom side on his Swim Jigs, but he doesn't call it or name it "The Doug Rig"!!! I would have to say like a general Bucktail/In-line Spinner for Fishing, someone just has to think they have the newest and greatest version of that style bait, but have to give the already general concept a different name.
    Same goes for the Ned Rig, Wacky/Wacko Rig, etc...Angler's have been fishing these general(same concepts) for years and years. Why give credit to someone or creation by name calling a Rig within the last 10-20 year's that's been used for the same general Rigging concept's? Most Anglers don't thread on a live Night Crawler on any style hook, catch a Bass, then give that set-up a new name because that method/style has been used and still is.
    Just like Angler's Tale's and in those Angler Tale's most of them strive for attention first and then if attention is noticed, then dollar sign's and notoriety follows.

    This doesn't describe damiki rig or damiki fishing at all.

      +Ean Carroll there are two different ways to fish it. This is the shallow water method that is used most of the year. The deep water method is used in the winter.
