I don’t have electronics set up on my kayak yet and I have watched several of your vids on setting them up. Really liked the little bit of explaining what you see on the reads i.e. “spaghetti” and the “belly down on the bottom” fish. Looking forward to putting this knowledge to use. Thanks!
Thanks. You don't need super high end electronics. Even the lower end these days are really nice. I recommend the Lowrance Ti's for Kayaks the only advice I can give you is get the biggest screen you can afford. Resolution does matter.
@@BassGeek actually the Old Town Predator PDL I have has a partnership with Humminbird so there is a molded in spot underneath scupper made for their transducers. Been shopping the Helix 7 Chirp SI GPS G2N. Looks to be the newest model that is compatible.
Byron Brush I couldn't get them to bite last week only caught 1 but a month ago the damiki rig did good here's the video ua-cam.com/video/jzMHmzVT-O4/v-deo.html
You've really got to have 2 things. Shad and smallmouth. It'll catch Largmouth but it's a smallie technique. The other thing don't shake it. Don't fish it like a dropshot. Brent Ehrler has a great video talking about taking a butt kicking on Cherokee because of that. Stop it above them and dead stick it. Thanks for watching man. Honored.
The two things I didn't have! I had the technique down, but a combo of no shad, all largemouth and inactive fish obviously didn't work for the Damiki the few times I dropped it. Keep up the great work!!! The honor is mine...
Is their any way you could do a video on finding small mouth on like rock point, rock humps, ect anything with a hard return .On side image ? I have been trying to find a video on it for last few days and have not found a single video on it. I tend to struggle with side image just because the bottom up here are all rock
I do have some video that show Largemouth and smallmouth on side imaging on hard bottom. That's about all I fish is hard bottom. Look at the ledge playlist.
Great video Hank. Talked to Tim at the expo and he told me the smallmouth story.. congrats on that nice one ! Your doing really good on the video production. I'm a Dayton guy also so as I get better at creating my videos I would love to get together and do a video with you.. this offshore stuff is where I really need to improve as an angler. Keep at it, hope we can get together sometime and who knows maybe we can break Rogne and Tims big bag total.
Man looks like you are doing great. You're channel is sweet and growing quick. I'd love to come down and fish with ya some time man. Thanks for coming by.
I fish Cherokee lake in the East Tennessee area, and start to see the shad bunch up in the 40 ft range once the lake rolls over usually in Nov.and the water temps hit the mid 50s. I just wonder if you ever run into schools of Crappie or Walleye when fishing the Damiki rig and do you find your bigger active schools holding on wood cover as I do? A well done video I might add, will Sub
Thanks for the the compliment and the sub. I have not really run into a lot of Crappie or Walleye but I also don't really target wood cover. Most of the schools I've found have been on Points, ledges, ditches and\or drains, or creek channels. I generally don't go looking for wood or cover this time of year for me it seem more about the bait and any sort of structure they can relate to near those bait fish. If there is wood near I would say that would be a bonus but not a necessity.
Hey BassGeek ! lovin the videos seen your stuff for a while now and finally subscribed... its been 1 year since this Dimiki video ? any new additions or info to this Tech ? out here in Cali and we reservoir fish and suspended fishing is coming soon.. thanks for the info .. FISHON !
Try running braid to a ~3’ fluro leader. You’ll have a lot more sensitivity and better hookset. That yellow line works fine as it is a pretty light color so it blends into the blue sky. That deep a lot of colors all look about the same unless it’s crystal clear water
Just wondering your opinion on why the damiki rig bite has shut down the last few weeks? We were smoking them on Cherokee and Norris and now can only get the fish to look at the bait but not bite?
Man that could be a lot of different reasons. Could be they have feed hard on the bait the last few days or weeks and are just not eating as much. I would honestly say the weather. It's just like the end of summer start of fall. When the temps start to drop in summer the bass begin to move up to prepare for the fall feed. It's not marked by a certain water temp it's just when the water begins to cool. Well the same thing happens going from winter to spring. As soon as the ENTIRE water column begins to warm the fish begin to move to spring feeding areas. Now they may still be deep heck there may still be fish out in the winter holes but they are fewer. Less competition means less bites. All that along with 90 thousand other reasons. lol Hope this helps.
I'm not sure where you are but some of the local tackle shops do. Watson's Marin and Just Fishing for example. You can also purchase them via their website Ledgehead.com. There is a 10% discount for them in the video description.
BassGeek That's great! Bristol is close enough. I'm definitely going to give these a try. So far I've been able to set up my sonar to see fish and drop to them, and actually get a nibble. But I still haven't been able to find a fish, drop to him, and actually LAND him. Thanks again for the informative video. It's one of the best I've ever seen in my quest to learn this technique. Wish it would warm up a bit so I could get on with figuring this out!
The shad and the sun really matter. On a sunny day those deeper smallies go nuts. I've also found they still like that morning bite. I try to be on the water right at sunup. No I haven't been since this big cold front so that may change'em the sun is still a big deal though. Those sunny days are the best for smallmouth.

Excellent detailed information about the Damiki rig that I feel like I can go right out and apply. Keep up the good work! Is this primarily a cold water technique, or is it effective whenever smallmouth are suspended and feeding on baitfish in open water, which is really common in a lot of Canadian lakes I’ve fished?
Yup. Think of this technique as a drop shot that the bait and weight are one. Suspended bass or bass that are sitting under shad this works great for. Spots and smallmouth love it.
I do. I have drop shot, spoons, Silver buddies, etc most of the time. It really depends on how active the bass are but this bait so natural in clear water it out fishes the spoon most of the time.

BassGeek, no matter the light penetration or clarity of water red will start to look darker at 20 ' of water and at around 25' Will look black. As a scuba diver I know this to be a fact. There really is none since you're droping it right on their head. Brighter or Darker colors will help and Ledgehead makes a new drophead with a blade the extra vibration and flash helps a lot in dirty water. Just remember that as the water gets, say less than 3-5 feet clear the bass will tend to move up shallower. That being said if the body of water is clear most the time they may not move up shallow when the water dirties up. If they live deep they will stay deep. Under 3-5ft may be pushing it however.

Finding the active fish is the hard part. I've had good luck with a spoon on "active fish". Do you think the damiki rig outfishes a spoon when the fish aren't active? Thise are the frustrating ones

Any where you can find’em. It’s that time of year. Go point hopping and look for shad
Great video. When is the best time to go to south holston lake and try damiki rig and other baits for smallmouth?
My favorite time is really March through early May. The start to move to the beds and it can be FUN. The Damiki bite should be on right now.

thats a very interesting hook. I will have to check them out next season! thx for the rig tip!

Nice job, finding and fishing deep is something I gotta get better at.

Find those deep schools and it'll work. Deep is relative just remember if the pond is 5ft on average that 6ft hole is where they'll be in the winter.
never used it, but it looks like I need to learn
For smallies it's THE winter technique. Just upgrade the bait for Largemouth.
Early May I will be on Sturgeon Bay Pre-Spawn I have neko rigs and jigs, I am going to get some of these and try them too.
Russ Lissuzzo Go get’em and send us some pics!
Great video, thanks! I'm really hoping to give this a try on Cherokee next week.
Thank you I think it should be good next week.
It didn't go well. lol I can see the potential in it though. Water was 42 degrees, I'm sure a little warmer temp would have helped.
Good information. I have to try the ledgehead jigs. That was a really nice smallie. Fish on!
I've had some good days on them already and it's still not quiet right for the rig just yet.
I have Helix 7 mdi g3n how do I the dual 83/200 on my unit to see my jig?
It should be in settings I have a few videos on that. Be sure to check out the Helix play list.

I do. I have drop shot, spoons, Silver buddies, etc most of the time. It really depends on how active the bass are but this bait so natural in clear water it out fishes the spoon most of the time.

No Prob brother us UA-camrs have to support each other
Sweet jig head. Remember the color red disappears at 20'. So The color is important up to that depth. Excellent video.
I agree in standard 2-3 foot water clarity. This was about 15ft clear. Remember it's all about the ability for light to penetrate the water. So if you can see rocks on the bottom in 20ft you have very little lose in visible light. In that case the color red would only fade at about 40-50ft.

No sir. Just pull up on some points, bluffs, and east facing rock and go to town. It warms faster in the winter.
@@BassGeek okay thanks man.
What is the minimum water clarity you look for for damiki rig?
There really is none since you're droping it right on their head. Brighter or Darker colors will help and Ledgehead makes a new drophead with a blade the extra vibration and flash helps a lot in dirty water. Just remember that as the water gets, say less than 3-5 feet clear the bass will tend to move up shallower.
