We can come up with many different ways to keep squirrels from getting to bird feeders but squirrels will ALWAYS find a way around them and sit at the feeders laughing at us and calling us foolish humans.
Thought of a couple of improvements which would get the outer pipe rings rotating as soon as his weight pushed down on em (even from directly above the middle line)... I'll refine the details and return...
I'm shocked that it took so long for them to figure it out. If you hang the feeder 4 feet down from a tree limb with metal wire and a large metal funnel turned upside down over the feeder with wire running thru the funnel hole, they won't be able to get to it.
@@sweetgirl070707 Years ago, there was an episode of a home improvement or gardening show which developed a series of squirrel proof feeding stations; about 20 I think. It took a while, but the squirrels eventually beat them all. A given squirrel would successfully beat one task and the others copied it until one by one all the squirrel-proof deterrents were not even slowing them from emptying the feeders.
All you accomplish is to produce smarter, more determined squirrels. All hail our future nutty overlords! Oh, and jumping to your most recent video on this at time of writing, they now also have heavy weaponry and possibly explosives. You're doomed!
All you need is a vertical PVC pipe 4"diameter or more. Needs to be at least 8ft high. Position away from trees etc. they could jump from. KISS! None of the fancy tricks, works 100%., I've had it for years/
I thought you had made the large red shield also able to rotate so even if they get past the 3 short tubes, when they jump on the red shield it would easily spin and bye bye squirrel.
I have watched a number of anti-squirrel bird feed videos and they seem practically unstoppable. They eventually figure it out. Not a fan of electric shock methods - too extreme. Okay, shocking squirrels doesn't harm them, but it's not fair for the game of man vs squirrel and bird feeders.
Only delusional people inject politics into a video about a squirrel and a bird feeder. The media has succeeded in developing automatons of what the deem the only two political entities in the U.S. Thank you for your contributing evidence of this.
Well, I've never seen a black one before, just brown, grey and one lone white one. There was a squirrel who tried to open the trash can I put the seed in with it's teeth, despite the bricks and rocks weighing down the lid. He even tried rattling the can handle, but couldn't get in.
Is the feeder tilting now from extra seed weight, causing too much friction between the drums? A new version could employ sealed scateboard bearings. Or a complete re design using a long curved iron support arm at least 3-4' out, in the shape of a giant n, and a fixed stopper disc minimum 2' diameter min 2' up the vertical mounting section. I use this for even more agile smaller red squirrels in the north.
Time to modify! They evolve, so do we! Where is that oil can? We need more greese! Try a longer pipe, try 2 discs, anything. Bird feeders isn't for birds. It's for squirrel torture!!!! Hahahaha, just kidding! But do luv watchin them try hard
Smart squirrel. May I suggest something? Replace the rolling PVC tubes with bunch of round plastic rings and rub grease all over them, including the holding tube., re-apply as needed. Good luck 🙂
You give a squirrel enough tries and time it will figure out a way to get to the bird feeder. Kind of reminds me of the one quote Are you smarter than an Eighth grader - :Only this case, Are you smarter than a pesky persistent food hungry squirrel.
Stan here's a suggestion: fill the bird feeder with Wild Delight sizzling N heat bird seed the birds love it the squirrels can't stand it! That way, his victory in the end becomes a defeat!! 🔥🔥🥜🐿 🥵👍
Maybe lengthen out the pipe the feeder is on a bit and put the pie plate in the middle and more rings on the other side of the pie plate by the feeder .
Thank you. I had thought of capturing him and taking him far away...but then I began to respect his persistence, so now I have to enhance the challenge. The brown/gray squirrels give up easy.
@@ionamic Understandably, you have gone soft on Black Ninja Squirrel😁. I would too, one has to admire the dedication and hard work this squirrel has demonstrated👍🏻

What if you make the pipe longer, adding several more pvc pipes, and make the red disc bigger/higher? Also, can the red disc also spin? Also, what if you made this slightly more complicated, by having some buttons on the pipe, were if the squirrel touches the pvc pipes, the pvc pipe pushes down on the button, and some mechanic with motor starts, that makes the red disc spin really fast for about 30 seconds?

Squirrels are evolving. Soon you'll see one flying a squirrel helicopter and landing on the bird feeder.....
LOL. They could hijack a done.
Flying squirrels do exit
Squirrel's attack helicopter, and a bunch of squirrel troopers.
Evolving? They've always been like this.
Looks like a .22 is your next option!
Try a Pine Martin . They've kept the greys out of Scotland , and they don't eat the Reds .
We are now exporting Martins to Ireland and Wales .
We can come up with many different ways to keep squirrels from getting to bird feeders but squirrels will ALWAYS find a way around them and sit at the feeders laughing at us and calling us foolish humans.
'Always'. Nah.
Camera, AI software and a motorised water squirter will do the job. And even edit out videos only of the action.
I tend to think squirrels enjoy the mind teasers like this...

I'd suggest placing an electric fense around and locking the feeder in a fireproof safe, just in case.

Have the rollers just gotten stuck, like from dirt and sap? Maybe they don't roll so well; they didn't seem to move at all.

I thought the plate was able to spin, not stationary.
It does spin, but if he balance himself perfectly, like a tight rope walker, he can get across it. That almost never happens.

Lengthen the pipe, put more but thinner pvc rings, maybe some grease on them.
Such a shame, i thought you had previously done it. Well that varmint may have won that particular skirmish but he hasn't won the war.

Another 3" pvc coupler may do the trick...that and I thought the red plate spun, must have imagined it?
The plate does spin, this particular squirrel just trained itself to balance perfectly so that the plate doesn't throw him off.

The red plate does spin, the squirrel is just balancing it so it doesn't spin.
Also, that second part sounds like it's way too compex and dangerous.
I think you have it, just need a bigger disc, and one that's clear. Like, satellite dish sized, but transparent. Then I think you're good!
