I've watched squirrels destroy two different supposedly squirrel proof feeders. Acrobatics, and much entertainment ensued. One the rodent bounced off a window to get the proper trajectory to reach the feeder. At that point although the squirrels weight closed the feeder, it wrapped its body around the cylinder of the feeder, and proceeded to chew its way through the sides of the cylinder. Which then collapsed, and seeds galore. On another which had no place to perch, it leaped of a ledge, twisted sideways, and then drop kicked the feeder until it was upside down. Broken feeder on the ground. Again there was many seeds, and there was much rejoicing in squirrel town!
My mother used to put out bird feeders and only one ever was truly squirrel proof. Alas it was not bear proof. It was amazing the amount of damage that bear did to that feeder as it was of sturdy metal construction.

I built something like this a few years ago, except it was mounted on line, not pipe, the kind of line that is used to hang laundry. It was really the same idea, with the pipes turning and a round plate. After a month or so, I ended up seeing a successful squirrel jump 5 feet over the turning pipes and the plate, and land on the wire, which he couldn't see until he jumped. He was the only one in the yard who could do this, but then he did it every day without any problem. The line was attached on one side to a tree, on the other side it was a stake with a rosebush that grazed all around. Very effective against animals. And funnily enough, the squirrel had a kind of ritual before jumping. He would go back and forth on the line, and when he made up his mind, he would hug the tree for 2 seconds and then run and jump.

Never expected this attention. Thank you for amazing comments! I try to answer everyone but I'm failing so far. Got some good ideas from the comments. Someone asked about seeing a close-up of the bird-feeder. Sorry, I had just taken it down two days ago and dumped it. I am working on a new one. I built the old one far too heavy. I used central vac PVC pipe. Bad idea. It's too lightweight to hold a bird feeder for very long, so it began to sag.. My next one will be made from 2 inch plumbing PVC pipe. It has thicker walls. BTW, those spinners are in the plumbing dept at the Home Depot or Lowes. My next one will be taller and stick farther out from the deck.
Actually. I suggest metal pipe similar to chainlink fence parts. Then the larger loose plastics pieces. Lots of slip but more strength and no sun degradation of the plastic.
I hope you will go into production so I can buy some effective squirrel-proof feeders. My current ploy is to hang lots and lots of disposable feeders made from empty Oatly cartons, and fill each one with a very small amount of seed so the squirrels will exhaust themselves running up and down, whereas it’s a lot easier for the birds to flit from one to the other.
Those PVC loops may prevent the squirrel from climbing across the PVC pipe, but it's still not going to stop them from getting to the seeds. Squirrels can jump over six feet. They will eventually just jump from the deck railing onto the feeder.
Finally managed to foil all the squirrels in the neighborhood, buying feeders that close feeding holes when squirrels step on it. Fun watching them try so hard, only to get irritated. 😂
Some years ago my cousin had racoons getting into his bird feeder. He created the "Coonapult" bird feeder. Needles to say, a racoon would try to raid the feeder in his yard and suddenly find itself flying into his neighbor's. Amazing contraption. What's more, amazing what a racoon can endure.
I had a "squirrel proof" feeder once. The type with a bar that closes the feeder at a certain weight. Squirrel climbed the pole, reached around and grabbed the bar closing the feeder. With his feet still on the pole, got the bar under his arm and pushed up opening the feeder. Just grabbed a handful and ate it. Pushed up, grab seed, eat. Repeat.
Okay, it's about time that I showed up here. The "Tilt-A-Squirrel" feeder no longer exists. It gone because we sold our home and are in the process of moving into a new place on November 15. I have plans for new design. The "Tilt-A-Squirrel" feeder worked well up until the end. It was breached a couple of times, after a strong wind blew the whole thing up against the railing. We have moved three hours away. Will they follow? We'll see.
A few winters ago when there was no acorn crop from the many oaks in the neighbourhood I heart softened and put out some corn on the deck for the pair of squirrels that were raiding the bird feed. In about 3 weeks there were a dozen of them on the deck and others, the less battle hardened, waiting for an empty spot. I was glad when spring came and the guests went home to their own neighbourhoods.
@@barkingdoggai During one harsh Midwest winter my wife and I put peanuts out every few days That spring many of them returned and a few decided to chew through my soffit and actually started to dig through the drywall into the house. It wasn’t easy convincing them to leave. They are persistent. We decided not to feed them after that!
They will eventually figure out a design flaw. Like those out pipe sections -- not enough of them. If they push them to the other end, then they can climb on the pipe and leap over the pizza pan.
I normally hate background music but I must say this time it was perfect. It was like being at the movies. Great job Sir. I got a good laugh when the confident black squirrel took a fall.
Same here! The objectionable YT music is usually just the heavy bass, which rudely wakes up sleeping people and cats. Some videos make you choose between the voice content and keeping sleepers sleeping, and that's not fair.
I myself love a challenge. All my friends have feeders and they constantly complain about the squirrels. I would comment "Why don't you build one that's squirrel proof?" They all said it was impossible. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! First step was to research the squirrels abilities and shortcomings. Long story short my feeder had three lines of defense. 1. I used 3/4" steel pipe with NPT standard threads. I installed it on my deck where I could enjoy the birds when viewed from my house. It mounted on the deck floor and interior side of the railing. it was roughly 9' tall vertically then went horizontal for about 6'. 2. I installed a baffle I made from aluminum flashing that prevented the squirrels from climbing the pipe. 3. I installed some chicken wire along the outside of the top of railing preventing the squirrel from having a firm launching area. The wire was springy enough to take that advantage away from them. I never laughed so much watching them try to get to the boodle. Watching them try to only fall short and get all out of sorts never gets old. To fill the feeder I would simply rotate the vertical pipe to where I could reach it. Simple.
i am more merciful, I trained my dogs to hate them and they run around the property freely. Squirrels tend to stay away from a place when they see dozens of other dead squirrel carcasses lying around from being stupid enough to enter the yard with german sheppards that can out run them . you think this sounds cruel, but the squirrels die in about 2 seconds, if that. pretty quick and they don't starve.
Wow - wish I had seen this years ago...still though - what a terrific idea that really works! Also - love the mathematical formula. That was just too funny!
I would have gone with alternating electrically charged pipes rather than the pvc. But, then again, it's somewhat less cruel than live trapping them and drowing them in a bucket the way the local government permits.
OMGosh I was thinking the same!! I love animals, I'm 64 and Have Never seen a black squirrel...that was Awesome! I would've put seeds on the deck just for the squirrel then everyone would've been content!

Squirrels are very clever and go to any lengths when it comes to getting food. You did a great job of preventing them to get to this bird feeder. Its too bad you have to go to these extremes, but the squirrels would eat all your bird food. Thats the coolest bird feeder and squirrel preventer I've seen so far. take care.
Just a wonderful show. I just kept laughing and when the formula came up my laughter was uncontrollable. Well done. Substituting [% - 78.3] and ending with {+ 8 &17} would have made the formula perfect.
This is fantastic! If it works long term, I'd be interested. I have six feeders on my deck, some are on double hangars. I'd like one for a tube feeder, panorama feeder, and a tray feeder, all ones that hang down.

Aargh, love all critters, but squirrels take the (suet) cake!! this for the giggles and ideas!!
It sounds like the squirrels eventually had you beat this round! looking forward to your next prototype!
I'd love to see the new one lol!
Those PVC loops may prevent the squirrel from climbing across the PVC pipe, but it's still not going to stop them from getting to the seeds. Squirrels can jump over six feet. They will eventually just jump from the deck railing onto the feeder.
The feeder is supported only by springs and cannot bear the squirrel's weight.
Yes, they can jump...but their launch pad kept spinning.
Honestly you have a very calming voice that would fit a nature documentary. I'm surprised this hasnt gone even more viral yet
Lol. Actually it what's I do for a living although not quite with that character voice. Thank you. I voiced my audio book, The Ugly One In the Middle.
@@ionamic ah cool that makes since and your welcome!
@Click Bait I have to think about that.
Finally managed to foil all the squirrels in the neighborhood, buying feeders that close feeding holes when squirrels step on it. Fun watching them try so hard, only to get irritated. 😂
From West Java, very warm thanks and applause from someone whom you made laugh heartily! Your Squirrel Foiler is excellent!
And probably a misdemeanor.
Flying bandits
I will never understand why Americans are so cruel to wild animals
@@ericconnor8419 yeah boomers are despicable
@@ericconnor8419 dont they land on all fours like cats?
The only other squirrel proof feeder was a slinky style. Couldn't figure that one out as well.
Well done Sir.
When you put up the math equation ,I hit the floor laughing./ Great clip.
Very funny to those of us who fight squirrels 🐿 daily.
I know right
That's funny as hell I love to see squirrels falling on those tricks🤣
I had a "squirrel proof" feeder once. The type with a bar that closes the feeder at a certain weight. Squirrel climbed the pole, reached around and grabbed the bar closing the feeder. With his feet still on the pole, got the bar under his arm and pushed up opening the feeder. Just grabbed a handful and ate it. Pushed up, grab seed, eat. Repeat.
Nice setup! But we use a Jack Russell terrier who has his own doggy-door and he hates squirrels!
LOVE IT! Alas I don't have a dog, but my neighbor has a GREAT watch dog in his yard.
I love the sound effects. Even the spaghetti Western music. UA-cam creators are the new MGM.
The irresistible temptation of the forbidden fruit....
We'll see.
Very clever contraption!! Funny commentary!! Enjoyed this very much!
I hate to say it but one day, just when you think you have them licked, you’ll glance over and see they outsmarted you!
Squirrels never give up.
Jimmy B. They taste like chicken.

Yeah, the background music worked well.
Same here! The objectionable YT music is usually just the heavy bass, which rudely wakes up sleeping people and cats. Some videos make you choose between the voice content and keeping sleepers sleeping, and that's not fair.
Link to the track?
I hope the poor little thing's alright.
@@reynaldoflores4522 Me too.
Also I truly think most people who own birds feeders do like seeing the birds but mostly enjoy foiling the squirrels
You ain't wrong! :)
Simple.
That you go so far and hard to prevent the squirrel from eating just so you can feed birds.
I have never known of a squirrel to die of starvation. Teaching to share hasnt worked.
This reminds me of a veteran at VA hospital trying to use their benefits....
My vet takes good care of his employees, but I know that not many do.
veteran and veterinarian, 2 different people..🤦🏼♂️
Funny and absolutely horrible at the same time.
😭😭😭😭 made me laugh, but that's such a sad reality
You ain’t lying sir!
What a great and EFFECTIVE design.....and cheap and easy to build as well. Kudos to you, sir !!!
This is great. Thanks for sharing this non killing, non hurting, non sling-shot-the-squirrels-away solution.
Yeah that squirrel spinning one was too much .. kinda funny tho 😄
Gotta LUV the slingshot solution! I've got the Yankee Flipper spin feeders that work GREAT!!!
yep great way to kill squirrel from hunger.
i am more merciful, I trained my dogs to hate them and they run around the property freely.
This would be so hilarious if a flying squirrel swoops in on the roof, hops inside, eat it's fill and glides away.
Loved the squirrelly sound effects.
“No animals were harmed in the production of this video”. Well... errr.. except for the squirrels. 😂🤣😂😅
The key word is "during".
@@DaveDude
Pretty sure one Squirrel fell into his death during the video and was never seen again. x,D
I've never seen a black squirrel before, she/he was beautiful
Lots of them in Ontario. I grew up in Nova Scotia and we only had red squirrels and they rarely came out of the forest.
Black is beautiful!
OMGosh I was thinking the same!! I love animals, I'm 64 and Have Never seen a black squirrel...that was Awesome! I would've put seeds on the deck just for the squirrel then everyone would've been content!
@@truckerradioshow2493 I live in NW Ontario and we only have the little red ones here! When I grew up in Toronto we had the big black and grey ones and no little Red ones. Lol
still a grey squirrel but in a black phase
Amazing how they look at it and realize they can’t make it and look for other ways.. cool video and squirrel proof feeder!
Love the sound effects!
My wife wants to make a modified version of this rig to keep me away from the turkey on Thanksgiving before everything is ready and everyone has been seated at the table. Thanks a lot for giving her the inspiration (NOT!!!)
I found the best way to handle those damn squirrels eating my bird feeder food was to simply put out a nice / deep bowl of nuts right under the feeder - just fir them - they seem to agree
Yup! They come up to me and take a peanut from my hand. Now they climb up my screen door begging for peanuts 🥜
Maybe the squirrel should borrow an Acme catalog from Wile E Coyote and find something to use to attack the feeder.
Funny, I was thinking the same thing! There has to be some kind of rocket he could strap to his back that would propel him from the ground straight up to the feeder.
Wile E squirrelllll suuuperrrr geniussss all it needs is some goggles and acme bat wings
Ah yes. Loved Wile E Coyote and the ACME catalog.
@@ionamic One of the funniest shows ever!
The dad energy that vibes from the editing is amazing. Good video.
Geeze, I loved watching your video! The music was great with it! The design is so great, I think you could sell these! I laughed so hard at the math equation too, and when that squirrel slid off, was funny too. I am glad you ended it with a happy bird eating.
Great vid, but y'know, I was almost rootin for the squirrel, almost
Squirrels are literally bushy tailed rats
I can't think of one similarity
Limb rat is what we call them

@@quarter_moon_and_a_guitar The only difference is the bushy tail.
FANTASTIC I WANT/NEED one of these bird feeders !
The squirrel algebra has me laughing tears @1:14 LOL Genius sir! Well done!!!
At 1:14, thank you for transcribing the squirrel's profanity. I didn't know squirrels could swear!
I love the way this squirrel think with a advance math equation, patent it sir you'll make a buck while we'll have a squirrel proof bird feeder to enjoy our favorite birds, without having to build it, frankly I got no place to build it but plenty of space to install it
Great video and sound effects!!!
The only flaw I can see is that the pvc rings can slide back over the bend to the base of the mount there is nothing blocking them… but the adversaries are yet to work this out… hehehe
Thats what i thought 😁...easy fix tho
Usually a video about a bird food eating squirrel is about an ever more complicated obstacle course. This is nice and short :).
Squirrels are very clever and go to any lengths when it comes to getting food. You did a great job of preventing them to get to this bird feeder. Its too bad you have to go to these extremes, but the squirrels would eat all your bird food. Thats the coolest bird feeder and squirrel preventer I've seen so far. take care.
The algebraic equation was hilarious.
Just a wonderful show. I just kept laughing and when the formula came up my laughter was uncontrollable. Well done. Substituting [% - 78.3] and ending with {+ 8 &17} would have made the formula perfect.
Thank you. I didn't think about the formula. I just inserted random numbers.
That metal spring perch would be mighty cold on a January morning.
Isn't metal only cold for animals that try to actively heat up whatever body part touches it?
Love your editing- the “zorro”like music for the black squirrel was entertaining
I have waited my entire life to see this! 😁 And I am Happy!!! Oh my goodness! Love it! Job Well Done! ❤️
This is fantastic! If it works long term, I'd be interested. I have six feeders on my deck, some are on double hangars. I'd like one for a tube feeder, panorama feeder, and a tray feeder, all ones that hang down.
It's funny how far we humans have to go to outsmart a squirrel. LOLOL I use a "cone-type" obstacle and grease the pole for good measure. Love to watch them climb and slide back down.
Squirrel-trig. I love it.
Best squirrel-proofing I've seen on youtube.
Brilliant. Simple, easy to build, and cheap. Thank you.
The birds can’t survive without you? 😂
Make an anti-bird squirrel feeder.
Squirrels don’t need anti bird they are the anti bird themselves
I could feed a herd of cows cheaper.
Now I just need a balcony and I’m all set.
Create a 'win-win" feeder - a treadmill that will dispense a set amount of feed for the greedy little fuzzballs if they simply use it enough, and hook it up to a generator. You get cheap source of energy, they get a snack ... I'm not a squirrel, really!
It's not a squirrel feeder. It's a bird feeder.
Great video! It got me laughing like I was watching the old Saturday morning cartoons.
I just put an extra feeder for the squirrels away from the house and my bird feeder. Worked great. Now I can watch the birds and squirrels.
Plot twist, the squirrel gang kidnap a bird family and forces the father to get seeds for them.
Also proceeds to cut the human cable, no food for us, no internet for you.
Bahahaha 🤣😂🤣
Hahahahaha! You could write a new episode of Breaking Bad!😅
I love how you can almost see the wheels turn in his head as he tries to figure it out.
Squirrels are the ultimate problem solvers.
@@bluelagoon1875 for sure. Check out Mark Rober's squirrel maze he just put out. It didn't take long for them to figure out how to get what they wanted. They definitely have more critical thinking skills than some people have.
