    To those who feel sorry for the little guy-if he is truly dejected, I suspect it’s because he couldn’t develop a way to beat the obstacles, not that he’s starving to death. Squirrels have pride, too, ya know!

    Nice design. If you feel like it. Takes some, car wax, the paste type. And wax all of it. The pipes, the plate both sides, the roof of the bird feeder, and the inside of the spinning larger pipes. Wax buff, wax buff. Two or three coatings should do it once a year.

    -Defeated sauirrel in a tiny room talking to a squirrel psychologist-
    Squirrel: You don’t understand, it’s right there taunting me. Day and night. Night and day. I’ve spent all spring trying. Thousands of squirrel feeders I’ve raided, but this one is too much. I’ve gone soft. I’m no longer worthy to be called a squirrel. What do you think doc?
    Dr : Well, you can’t win them all. You have to move on. Grab life by the branch. It sounds like you wasted a lot of time and energy trying to chase a broken hope. But there’s other bird feeders out there for you. Let it go. Fur real.
    Squirrel: Thanks Doc. How much do I owe you?
    Dr : That’ll be 340 acorns for the hour session.
    Squirrel: You’re nuts!

    you'd think he would figure that, from his perch on that PVC elbow, he may be able to jump right to the roof of the feeder. Not sure if he could get at the seed from there, but I think some squirrel will figure that out eventually. It's a long jump, but they can do it.

    • @jjrusy7438
      @jjrusy7438 3 роки тому +3

      my thoughts exactly. i have watched our squirrels slowly work the feeders. Over time, whether it is just random luck from trying long enough, or actual brains, our squirrels would have figured out that jump. My favorite is when they try advanced parkour out of nearby trees with sproingy branches. hilarious fails.
      edit: this guy has too much time and/or money on his hands. One piece of galvanized heating duct on the pipe attached to the bottom of the birdfeeder does it.
      lol. squirrel takes the pipe supporting the feeder like a boss...all the way up the dead end tunnel. The true advantage is that they cant sit there and plan the next move.

      @ Bob - how do the little varmints taste?

    • @bob2161
      @bob2161 3 роки тому +1

      @@wjd5459 I hate to give this answer, because it is such a cliche, but they taste very similar to chicken, but a little more savory. Kind of somewhere between chicken and pork I suppose. It can also be prepared like fried chicken. Quartered, spiced, floured, and into hot oil. Done this way, it tastes very similar to chicken. My grandmother and grandfather preferred their squirrels fried and served with fried potatoes with onions. You could tell as soon as you hit the front door if that's what she was making for dinner, just the smell would get your mouth watering.
      My favorite though, is the stew. My wife won't touch it, but my son and I both enjoy it. I only get to make it about once a year.

    • @wjd5459
      @wjd5459 3 роки тому

      @ Bob - thank you for your reply. I found the information you shared to be interesting with a twinge of wild flavor.
      Have had rabbit before which is a delicious meat.
      Have also had a bite of raw liver after my dad downed a deer. That meat tasted like steak.
      Once again, I enjoyed what you shared. You should be a storyteller, or write the experiences.

    • @bob2161
      @bob2161 3 роки тому +1

      @@wjd5459 if you've eaten rabbit and liked it, you will like squirrel. They are pretty similar, with one caveat. If you try to roast squirrel, it tends to get dry.
      Granny used to make a rabbit pot roast. The rabbit, surrounded by potatoes, carrots, and onions. To see if it was done, she would use a fork to check if the carrots were tender. If they were, dinner was ready.
      I tried a squirrel pot roast. When the carrots were tender, the squirrel was overdone. I can't say that I'd reccomend a squirrel pot roast.

    We don't have squirrels in Oz (the marauding koalas ate them all). But it seems, from several bird-feeder videos I have watched, that no one really wants to deprive or even harm these squirrels. It's all about "ego" - which species is smarter? 'Man' or squirrel'? Gotta admit, though. Occasionally I want the little guys to win.

    If that squirrel was smart he would jump over to the top of the bird feeder roof and get the seeds!
    Why doesn't he think of that? One powerful jump and he could get the seeds! Oh but wait, he gets a mouth full of seeds and then he would have to climb back up to the top of the roof and jump back to get down. Hmm, that might be a problem with a mouth full of seeds or a stomach full. There is good chance he'd miss that landing and fall and bust his little noggin.

    Why aren't they just jumping on to it easy peasy because that red plate is not at all big
    And the hand railing is not that far away
    Are you just not showing that on purpose
    Where's the videos of them eating all of the seeds of your bird feeder, either being on the roof or doing the dangle
    They can just jump from the 90° piece of pipe over the red plate
    Or over the red plate from the railing
    Or from the railing straight to the feeder house...
    They can probably even climb up from below on your ballasts
    And jump to the feeder that way...
