To those who feel sorry for the little guy-if he is truly dejected, I suspect it’s because he couldn’t develop a way to beat the obstacles, not that he’s starving to death. Squirrels have pride, too, ya know!
Nice design. If you feel like it. Takes some, car wax, the paste type. And wax all of it. The pipes, the plate both sides, the roof of the bird feeder, and the inside of the spinning larger pipes. Wax buff, wax buff. Two or three coatings should do it once a year.

I've got separate feeder for the squirrels, and a domed baffle on the bird feeder pole with a tin can mounted over the baffles bracket so they can't chew it up, also gonna hang a slinky under it so no climbing poles
Seems like people either hate or love squirrels. They feed them or they sling shot them away. But my dawg LOVES squirrels! Whenever I say “Squirrel !” He’s ready to go to them.
NEW UPDATE. One guy breached the spinners and wheel briefly, hung on the feeder for dear life for a few seconds and then fell off. Sadly, I wasn't running video.
you'd think he would figure that, from his perch on that PVC elbow, he may be able to jump right to the roof of the feeder. Not sure if he could get at the seed from there, but I think some squirrel will figure that out eventually. It's a long jump, but they can do it.
my thoughts exactly. i have watched our squirrels slowly work the feeders. Over time, whether it is just random luck from trying long enough, or actual brains, our squirrels would have figured out that jump. My favorite is when they try advanced parkour out of nearby trees with sproingy branches. hilarious fails. edit: this guy has too much time and/or money on his hands. One piece of galvanized heating duct on the pipe attached to the bottom of the birdfeeder does it. lol. squirrel takes the pipe supporting the feeder like a boss...all the way up the dead end tunnel. The true advantage is that they cant sit there and plan the next move.

Ya well you haven't seen my squirrels .. LOL .. 1 of my feeders is a globe type , i have it on a clothes line which is 108 ft from the house to the pole and it's on the 2nd story .. The clothes line is 16-18 ft off the ground and I pull it out about 50 ft ... And I still can't keep squirrel off the feeder ..
There is something about this video that makes me sad. The fact that this bushy tailed rat hasn't already been sent to the big bird feeder in the sky. Those things are just plain destructive and despicable. They're not welcome on my property unless they're in a pot of stew with a side of biscuits.
@@wjd5459 I hate to give this answer, because it is such a cliche, but they taste very similar to chicken, but a little more savory. Kind of somewhere between chicken and pork I suppose. It can also be prepared like fried chicken. Quartered, spiced, floured, and into hot oil. Done this way, it tastes very similar to chicken. My grandmother and grandfather preferred their squirrels fried and served with fried potatoes with onions. You could tell as soon as you hit the front door if that's what she was making for dinner, just the smell would get your mouth watering. My favorite though, is the stew. My wife won't touch it, but my son and I both enjoy it. I only get to make it about once a year.

Have also had a bite of raw liver after my dad downed a deer. That meat tasted like steak. Once again, I enjoyed what you shared. You should be a storyteller, or write the experiences.
@@wjd5459 if you've eaten rabbit and liked it, you will like squirrel. They are pretty similar, with one caveat. If you try to roast squirrel, it tends to get dry. Granny used to make a rabbit pot roast. The rabbit, surrounded by potatoes, carrots, and onions. To see if it was done, she would use a fork to check if the carrots were tender. If they were, dinner was ready. I tried a squirrel pot roast. When the carrots were tender, the squirrel was overdone. I can't say that I'd reccomend a squirrel pot roast.
We don't have squirrels in Oz (the marauding koalas ate them all). But it seems, from several bird-feeder videos I have watched, that no one really wants to deprive or even harm these squirrels. It's all about "ego" - which species is smarter? 'Man' or squirrel'? Gotta admit, though. Occasionally I want the little guys to win.

If that squirrel was smart he would jump over to the top of the bird feeder roof and get the seeds! Why doesn't he think of that? One powerful jump and he could get the seeds! Oh but wait, he gets a mouth full of seeds and then he would have to climb back up to the top of the roof and jump back to get down. Hmm, that might be a problem with a mouth full of seeds or a stomach full. There is good chance he'd miss that landing and fall and bust his little noggin.
ionamic I’m guessing Ontario Canada, if so, we crossed into Ontario near Niagara Falls with our best friends several years ago. Then spent a week driving to Quebec City. Spent two nights camping out in a tent on an island in the St Lawerence river. We were all very impressed at how clean and neat everything was, including the public restrooms. Saw lots of good sites The whole trip took two weeks. One of our most memorable vacations.
I don't understand why this is not consistent with other squirrel preventing bird feeding UA-cam videos Why aren't they just jumping on to it easy peasy because that red plate is not at all big And the hand railing is not that far away Are you just not showing that on purpose Where's the videos of them eating all of the seeds of your bird feeder, either being on the roof or doing the dangle They can just jump from the 90° piece of pipe over the red plate Or over the red plate from the railing Or from the railing straight to the feeder house... They can probably even climb up from below on your ballasts And jump to the feeder that way... I just don't find your videos consistent with other thousands of videos on the internet and tens of thousands of other squirrels

We are in Ontario and black squirrels are everywhere, including in cities like Toronto.

Do you know how much bird seed squirrels can eat ? And depending on the nuts and bird feed, the squirrel may choose the bird feed.
