    Glad to see someone turning a mini bike into a trike

  • @rong4189
    @rong4189 7 років тому +2

    Yeah, one shock for sure. One spring, one set of valving adjustments, one set of mounting tabs. When dirt bikes went to single shocks way back when, they never went back. Cool build!

    I definitely want to do a trike as well. Suspension wasn't even a thought. Again you are the man brother!!

    I would really like to see you build a Coleman ct200u into a stretched (around 2 feet) utility bike with a larger 23in’ish rear tire. Something more utilitarian. That would be great.

    Trike looks great! When you get through it's going to rip! I am a little concerned about your rear axle though. Your mount being so close together makes me think that the axle is going to bend. But if I know you, is going to rip good red beard. No matter what it looks bad to the bone!

    add a pipe to the frame that fits the tank, instead of having to modify that sweet tank. Maybe plates that bolt to the tank and under the frame rails.

  • @willtrautman6243

    Just get 12 inches of round stock, thread both sides, weld a nut on one side and then you got yourself a bolt, may spend more than you want in tools though😎

    So are you worried about the bearings on each end of the swing arm being able to take abuse such as forward and aft movement against the bearing race? I was thinking of doing this same thing instead of the standard bolt through two angle brackets you see on most swing arm hinges.

    I think it would be much better to cut the minibike upper backbone pipes out and fit in a single tube upper backbone to mount that tank, instead of cutting up the gas tank to fit how the bike is now. Way better.
    Just cut them off somewhere near the front of the seat and weld in a cross plate at the front of them, then weld a single pipe from there to the neck.

    Would it be okay to put a bigger axle on it if someone did this themselves? I see you did a 36”, But would a bigger one be okay, like a 46” or maybe up in the 50’s? I feel like a really wide trike would be awesome.

    • @jessehunt697
      @jessehunt697 7 років тому +1

      Perhaps if you go longer, an 1-1/4 axle would be better, and of course would need more bearing and a longer swing arm

    • @RedBeardsGarage
      @RedBeardsGarage  7 років тому

      50 is way too wide in my opinion. A three wheeler is dangerous any way you look at it but I do plan on putting a 40" axle on it to widen it some. It has a 36 right now

    • @jessehunt697
      @jessehunt697 7 років тому

      Okay, that makes sense. I really wanna start a build similar to this, but with a different mini bike frame. What seat is that? I don’t see it on the go power sports site

  • @dutch4541
    @dutch4541 3 роки тому

    Yo RBG I have a big question. First off in a newbie but have been a structural welder for 20+ years so my fabrication is purtty good. My question is in the rear when you turn the bike the outside wheel would want to move faster than the inside. How do you let this happen without the inside wheel wanting to basically drag the rear? I bought a trike not realizing this until after I unloaded it and tried moving it around the shop to mint the engine.

      When you're ordering replacement tips for it, see if you can find some sort of standoff guide that fits your torch. They're a big help till you've gotten all the variables sorted out and have learned your torch's sweet spot. (A combination of air pressure, standoff and cutting speed.) Find that and a plasma torch will cut like a laser.
